Customs Holiday Bash Day 2, Slot 1: The Sundays Double Album Series!

Hello, it’s day 2 time! And AIRHeads are back with another massive installment of our community Double Album Series. For entries #52 and #53, we are shifting our focus to the shimmering, jangle-pop perfection of The Sundays.
Led by the ethereal, singular vocals of Harriet Wheeler and the intricate, sparkling guitar work of David Gavurin, The Sundays emerged from Bristol to become one of the most beloved indie bands of the late ’80s and ’90s. Building on the jangly guitar pop of the Smiths and the trance-like dream pop of bands like the Cocteau Twins, the Sundays cultivated a dedicated following in indie rock circles. Their sound – a delicate balance of wistful melancholy and bright, melodic optimism – helped define the college rock and dream-pop landscape. And above all, that beautiful voice of Wheeler and those songs – such beautiful songs!

The Sundays’ 1990 debut is a near-perfect album – bright but bittersweet, jangly yet introspective, and endlessly replayable. It captures the band at their most immediate and emotionally open, full of shimmering guitars and melodies that feel both comforting and quietly heartbreaking. This record contains many of the band’s defining songs, and it’s easy to hear why it became such a cornerstone of early ’90s indie pop.
The album is now available to play IN FULL! Watch the trailer above for a taste. I could go on about each individual song but that would take forever. So let’s just get on with it!
-“Here’s Where the Story Ends” was previously released by AIRHeads and can be downloaded here.

And now album 2… Static & Silence!

After a five-year hiatus, The Sundays returned with their third and final studio album, Static and Silence. While the production is a bit lusher and more polished than their debut, the core of the band remained unchanged: beautiful melodies and poetic, introspective lyrics.
The most famous song here is undoubtedly “Summertime,” perhaps the most joyful and breezy song in their catalog. But don’t overlook the rest of it: the moody brilliance of “Cry” or the beautiful lush “Leave This City”, the guitar riffs of “Another Flavour“, the brilliance of “She“, or my personal favorite – the drop-dead beautiful romantic “When I’m Thinking About You” – a song to dedicate to your loved ones.

And since we love bonus track, we also included the brilliant “Life Goes On” – a beautiful b-side that’s actually one of the Sundays most well known songs.
That’s it for now! You can enjoy complete previews of all songs in the AIRHeads Youtube channel!
Stay tuned for another release in the next slot, 12 hours from now!
