Chart-a-thon 2023 Day 13, Slot 2: The Gaslight Anthem’s the 59 Sound Full Album
Hello everyone! I hope you’ve all been enjoying the amazing output of songs from so many authors. It’s really been a fantastic event. I would like to join in and include some songs from a favorite album of mine. That is the ‘59 Sound from the Gaslight Anthem.
I got into the Gaslight Anthem a few months after the ‘59 Sound was released. I started a radio show at a local college with a great friend of mine in October of 2008. He had suggested that we have a top albums show to close out the calendar year for 2008. At the time, I had listened to very few albums from that year and he was suggesting that we get at least 25 albums in and play a song from each of them on air. It was a great idea that continued forward until I finished my radio show in 2019.
I remember combing through a lot of albums in not a lot of time and it was really difficult to find an album I was absolutely sold on. And in 2008, there were a ton of great albums. Coldplay came out with Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends (which was released in its entirety for Chart-a-thon and I recommend picking it up), Death Cab for Cutie came out with Narrow Stairs that year as well! Those were two front runners for me. My friend also wasn’t sold on either of them being our top album of the year. Then I came across the ‘59 Sound. I was immediately hooked after hearing the first track, “Great Expectations”. The album just hit me in a way I wasn’t expecting. This was a band that had a soulful classic punk rock sound that wasn’t being heard anymore. With deep personal lyrics, and a vibe that reminded me of Bruce Springsteen and Social Distortion, I couldn’t get enough of them.
Because of the Gaslight Anthem, and particularly this album, I made connections with a few people who I’ve considered to be lifelong friends. We bonded over this album, going to Gaslight Anthem shows, fawning over each and every new release from them since this album dropped. It’s something I truly appreciated and will never forget all the memories and good times I had with them.
It’s because of this, that I decided a long time ago to want to author this whole album for Rock Band. A few authors have released a few songs already from this album but I wanted to complete the experience for not only myself, but for anyone else that was interested in hearing this album in its entirety. With that in mind, I want to thank CVJordan for releasing the title track to this album, and I want to thank Atruejedi for helping me start this journey quite a few years ago. He released a few of the songs from this album and I highly recommended downloading all the tracks from him and Jordan. I also want to send out a huge thanks to duhterminate and EdTanguy for all their help. They did all of the vocal work and harmonies for these songs and I couldn’t have finished it without their help. I also want to thank Yaniv for completing “Here’s Looking at You Kid” for this release and helping to make this album complete.
Without further ado, here are the songs!
