Nice to see you’re still charting! Especially on Rush, Marillion, Frank Zappa, U2, Van Halen…

Have you actually copied the songs files and folders to the correct target folder on your ps3? Check in the main thread what is the path and name of the target folder depending on whether you have the NTSC or PAL version of the game. If the songs show up in the game but don’t preview or load, it means the songs.dta file is in the right place but the songs files are not.

In what sense they don’t work?

Many of these old customs have the “loop ending” problem, that can be fixed in a variety of ways, but otherwise they work.

When converting with C3 CON Tools, make sure you choose the correct PAL/NTSC for your PS3 and select Type 3 encryption.

Good. If you want, send me the songs.dta file that should have worked i.e. the “previous” and I can take a look.

Sounds like the situation is a bit messy now, but typically when the game gets stuck loading songs, and doesn’t reach the songs list, there’s indeed a problem with the “songs.dta” file.

I am not 100% sure but I think at that stage, the game only reads dta files, which means that whatever is wrong with files inside the “songs” folder, it should not yet cause problems.

What is disconcerting, is that even a previously working songs.dta doesn’t help. I would double check that you really used a previously working dta file. Otherwise try creating a progressively smaller songs.dta by removing songs at the end, or even a single-song dta file.

If you have an editor like Notepad++ you can search for “(” and count, then search for “)” and count, and see if they match in number. You can also analyse your dta file using the Setlist Manager in C3 CON Tools.

I don’t have any problems with the new database…

The forums however have indeed dried up, but in my opinion that’s primarily because most discussions have moved to discord. I do have a couple of technical gripes with the new forums: not being able to edit old posts, and new posts often going into “awaiting moderations” for no reasons.

Is there any other way? (That does not go against the community rules of course)
You can use C3 CON Tools.

Select the Phase Shift converter. This will convert an encrypted mogg audio file into a single-track audio file. You can ignore the rest of the generated files.

You can then us Magma to open the CON, replace the mogg with the single-track audio and re-build the CON.

I am not sure but you might also replace the audio directly using C3 CON Tools.

In theory, you could fix the “tempo map” by extracting the MIDI file from the CON (using C3 CON Tools), editing the MIDI (for example in Reaper), and replacing the old MIDI into the CON (using C3 CON Tools).

The difficult part is obviously in Reaper, where the “tempo map” appears as a list of speed markers, usually once per measure. You normally need a visual clue to place markers correctly, and this is provided by the audio file (which you can also extract from the CON). You might be able to correct existing markers if you’re lucky, but editing a pre-existing tempo map can also make it worse, and I think in general people prefer to scrap a bad tempo map and start from zero. You definitely want to watch the original “let’s author” youtube video by pksage to learn how it works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2rfk21tm1I

You should be able to change the genre with the DTA editor, it is just an entry in songs.dta and if I remember right you might be able to put any string there.

Hi Spike, I was just wondering where you’be been, and here you are!
On the PS3 Converter window, the ‘Merge new songs with exi’ box is checked, but it is greyed out.
You figured it out already, but to others’ benefit, I believe that when it is greyed out it is because the “songs.dta” file is not found by C3CONTools under the folder where it is supposed to be, which is the “Merged Songs” folder.
