It’s not clear what you’re referring to in the picture. If you’re talking about those faint grey notes, those are notes in a different track that you had open in the same window as the current track.

I tried just now. The C3U links are external, pointing at MediaFire downloads, but when I tried “Kingdom of Hearts” and “Running in Circles”, they both worked for me. Maybe give it another shot?

You can always ask others to test your vocals prior to release. Beyond that, if you don’t already have multitracks, audio separators like Spleeter and demucs can help isolate the vocals so they are easier to chart. While the isolation is never perfect, demucs in particular can give some pretty spectacular resuls, depending on the source material. If you don’t want to install demucs or other such software on your computer, there are web services where you can upload your song for processing, like this one.

If you use REAPER to chart, use ReaSynth or a similar plug-in to play the MIDI notes you chart, so you can compare them to the pitches of the original vocals. The C3 REAPER template is already configured with ReaSynth on the vocal tracks, making this even easier. Finally, make sure you actually are charting, and following the documentation, not just copying notes from some other MIDI source without any changes. While vocals are by far the most challenging part of authoring a custom, they also offer the most leeway, and even a small amount of effort can be the difference between a bad vocal chart and a decent one.

When playing a pre-RB3 chart on Vocals, song plays normally and Harmony parts are added.

When I play that song’s Keys chart on my own, all camera angles and cuts are removed, so I am stuck with a frontal shot of the band for the entire song. Keyboard player also never exits their “Idle” animation state. Anyone know of a workaround or explanation for this?

The good news is you’ve done everything correctly.

The bad news is, this is normal for legacy content with keys upgrades.

There are actually a couple of different ways venues can be created and stored in RB song files; simply put, there’s the legacy way and the RB3 way. RB3 (the game) knows how to handle both types, and it decides automatically which one to look for. This automation breaks down when you play a legacy song with keys, because any time keys are chosen, the game assumes you must be playing an RB3-era song with an RB3 venue. Since legacy songs only have legacy venues, the game ends up finding almost no venue information at all, just some post-processing video effects.

The short answer is no, you can’t.

The longer answer is, maybe, but probably not. First, you’d need to supply your own audio, since most customs in the C3DB have encrypted audio. Second, you’d have to bring your own multitracks. Only a tiny percentage of popular songs have multitracks publicly available, and most of those are on sites we can’t and shouldn’t promote here. There are tools for separating stereo audio into some isolated tracks, and sometimes the separation is pretty darn good, but it’s never as good as having true multitracks in the first place, and a lot of instruments remain glued together. Spleeter and demucs, two of the most popular options, will separate vocals, bass and drums, and Spleeter will (try to) separate piano also, but everything else is left as is.

Of course you’re welcome to try, and this is one way you could also get familiar with the tools for creating RB3 customs. But if you’re hoping for some single-button thing that turns a stereo custom into a multitracked one, there’s no such thing.

Please pardon the delay. I was partially right about the “ç” causing issues. It turns out the apostrophe was causing issues too. However, I believe the fault was on our side. Simply put, your name was mangled both when creating the C3DB entry for your account and when creating the directory for your account in the C3U cloud. I’ve fixed both places, and now you can log into C3U with your proper name, “L’Arçonneur”, and you can set your customs to download from C3U instead of from an external source. I put back everything I changed, so currently your customs still have external links. You can use your C3U control panel to remove the external links for the customs you have uploaded to C3U, and at that point the C3U download links should work fine. Note you will still need to upload any customs you’re hosting externally that aren’t yet hosted by C3U also.

Hopefully that’s all clear, but if you have any questions or you see any lingering issues, just reply back here or in a private message to me. In the meantime, I’ll add a task to the to-do list to stop this name mangling for any future accounts with non-English characters!

If you haven’t already, try contacting the author of the custom to let them the issue. You can send a private message here in the forums, or you can leave a comment on the custom’s song page in the C3DB.

Beyond that you would need to know how to use C3 CON Tools (or perhaps Onyx?) to take apart customs and put them back together. That’s not a bad thing to know. 🙂

Hello! Sorry to see you’re having trouble hosting your files on C3U. I suspect the “ç” in your name is causing an issue, but I can’t yet say how, specifically. I see you have updated your songs to make them available from other sites. With your permission, I’ll play with one or two entries, pointing them back to the C3U files either temporarily or until we solve the problem. Is that all right?

I believe the short answer is no, sorry to say.

If I’m not mistaken, the visualizer creates lines on the highway the same way the game does: the thicker dark lines are the “up” beats as marked in the BEAT track, while the lighter lines are the “down” beats. Then thinner lines are put directly between the “up” beats, which makes sense for 8th notes but not so much for triplets.

You might be able to create a triplet effect by creating triplet patterns in the BEAT track, but be aware it will also affect venue animations and OD burn rate if you use that BEAT pattern in-game.

It’s possible the customs were deleted from the database, for one reason or another. Typically admins won’t delete songs unless they have become official content for _Rock Band 4_, but authors can delete their own songs when they feel it is necessary.

We’ve been dealing with a bug where sometimes the “I’m serious” buttons don’t do everything they’re supposed to. I’ve set your account as having accepted the agreement, so you’re now “officially” an author. Welcome aboard!

There is one more step you need to do before you can upload. You’ll see a new tab the next time you log into C3U, called “File Management”. To the left you’ll see a red box letting you know your account is maxed out. Everyone starts at zero and then needs to request space as they start uploading songs. Click that box to make a request for space. Handling requests is a manual process, but we usually take care of them within 24 hours, often sooner.

Note you may need to widen your browser window before you see the left-hand column with the red box.

To confirm, is “Ben” also the name you use to log into C3U?
