Have you done any key work for Baba O’Riley and if not could you do it. (please)

I do happen to have an old WiP for “Baba O’Riley”, but it still needs a lot of work. Someday! (If no one beats me to it…)

The keyboard intro is so fast that I’ve always wondered if it was played by a sequencer rather than a real person…

It was indeed a sequencer (of sorts).

Obviously an RB3 keys chart would have to take that into consideration.

Thanks for the link… I was thinking years ago that it could be played by a human with relative ease if a proper delay effect was used to duplicate the notes. Then your link made me want to search YouTube a bit and I found this:

Never mind the guy singing, but otherwise he’s doing a good job with all the instruments, and he’s really nailed the keyboard sound to make playing fairly easy <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />

ok so after like 7 hours of compiling, loading, freezing and repeating, i can confidently say it has something to do with some of the recent keys upgrades, specifically either kung fu fighting, walking on sunshine, you oughta know, check yes juliet, or maybe free fallin(since that chart was changed). I did a bundle with only those four songs and And Justice for All froze, so i removed those four songs and did a bundle of literally just the upgrade for AJFA and it worked, so i went into my upgrade folder, removed just those 5 upgrades and suddenly all my upgrades of every type worked no problem.

also to be clear I’m only mentioning AJFA because it’s the quickest song to select that has an upgrade alphabetically, every time AJFA worked I immediately checked other upgrades and they all worked no problem. if i have time I can run a bundle with each new keys upgrade separately from each other to narrow down what was causing the freezing in the first place.

Quoting this again to let everyone know I haven’t forgotten about this problem, and I’m investigating it now. I’ve reproduced the lock-up on my XBox 360, so there’s definitely a problem here, and it’s not just “you”. I’ll post again as soon as I find a fix. I’m sure it’s something stupid I forgot to put in one of the upgrade files, but now the task is actually finding that missing needle in the haystack.

I’ve narrowed the problem down to two upgrades: “Bad Romance” and “Walking on Sunshine”. When I upgrade only “Bad Romance”, there is no problem. When I upgrade both “Bad Romance” and “Walking on Sunshine”, WoS behaves properly but then BR crashes during the intro scenes. I went through other combinations of upgrades as well, but this smallest set I found where I could consistently create crash and not-crash scenarios, so I’ll continue my investigation with these. Based on what dr waffles found, I suspect “Walking on Sunshine” will be the culprit (or at least a culprit), but how it can wreck other songs without wrecking itself is a mystery. The MIDIs and the DTAs look fine for both, so it isn’t anything immediately obvious. WoS does have a pro-strings upgrade, which might be a factor; I’m not good at eyeballing those for potential problems. I’ll probably start my next experiment by removing WoS’s pro-strings tracks, to see how both songs then behave. I’ll keep y’all posted.

The bug has been found and squashed! I’ve committed a fix to the Github repo, and now all of the latest keys upgrades as well as all older upgrades should work as expected. Big thanks to both dr waffles and MFX for their help in tracking this down.

For those curious about the details, the upgrades.dta file for the keys upgrade to “Walking on Sunshine” had an extra closing parenthesis, which was causing the game to “forget” about any upgrades that happened to come after that one in the cache file. That’s why “Walking on Sunshine” would still work, but then other upgraded songs would crash. It was a simple typo that I might have caught had I tested these upgrades through both bundling tools, but I skimped and got bitten. Mea culpa. It won’t happen again! (Hopefully.)

If anyone continues to have trouble even with this latest fix, please let me know! Hopefully that won’t happen and everybody can once again enjoy more keys!

Like the poor sod getting tossed onto the death cart in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, I keep having to insist, “I’m not dead yet!”  Or rather, this project isn’t dead yet!  And we have 10 more keys upgrades to prove it!  The following are now available in my fork of the Rock Band Harmonies Project:

                          • Blondie – “Call Me” – keys by TheSheepQueen
                          • Blue Öyster Cult – “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” – keys by TheSheepQueen
                          • Freezepop – “Brainpower” – keys by TheSheepQueen
                          • Garbage – “I Think I’m Paranoid” – keys by TheSheepQueen
                          • GlaDOS – “Still Alive – keys by TheSheepQueen
                          • Lady Gaga – “Poker Face” – keys by TheSheepQueen
                          • Yngwie Malmsteen’s Rising Force – “Caprici di Diablo” – keys by Linos Melendi
                          • Ozzy Osbourne – “No More Tears” – keys by TheSheepQueen
                          • The Police – “Can’t Stand Losing You” – keys by TheSheepQueen
                          • X Japan – “I.V.” – keys by Linos Melendi

Elsewhere in the repository, the song info for “Looking Out My Back Door” has been corrected to show the song as official DLC, not an RBN release.  Thanks to GitHub user pantra64 for this fix!

For those who might be new to the Rock Band Harmonies Project, the original project announcement by espher, the project’s founder, still has plenty of good info.  Besides the files hosted on GitHub, the most important bits are the RBHP Custom Packager, and espher’s tutorial on how to use it.  The tutorial is still on YouTube.  The packager was originally hosted on the old C3 file server, but later had to be removed in a data purge.  Various other users have offered the packager elsewhere; I’d like to thank Jared Collums in particular who hosts a download from his Google Drive.  Efforts have also been made to collect all of espher’s offerings into a single C3U location, so the packager is again available “officially”, and hopefully will remain so!

Hope y’all enjoy, and rest assured more upgrades are still on the way!

Elsewhere in the repository, the following minor fixes have also been committed:

                              • David Bowie – “Suffragette City” – Fixed a couple of misaligned lyrics in the harmonies.
                              • The Grateful Dead – “Touch of Grey” – Fixed one misaligned lyric in the third harmony chart.
                              • The Police – “Can’t Stand Losing You” – Corrected one line in the upgrades.dta file for keys that was causing the upgrade to be processed incorrectly by the game.
                              • Rush – “Closer to the Heart” – Added a Song Info Fix for those who want vocal tonic but don’t want keys.

                              Enjoy!

We’re back with more keys for legacy RB tracks, and this time we have three artist packs to show off! The following are now available in my fork of the Rock Band Harmonies Project:

                                  • R.E.M. – “Driver 8” – keys by FujiSkunk
                                  • R.E.M. – “It’s the End of the World as We Know It (and I Feel Fine)” – keys by FujiSkunk
                                  • R.E.M. – “Stand” – keys by TheSheepQueen
                                  • Red Hot Chili Peppers – “Dani California” – keys by TheSheepQueen
                                  • Red Hot Chili Peppers – “Snow ((Hey Oh))” – keys by TheSheepQueen
                                  • Red Hot Chili Peppers – “Under the Bridge” – keys by TheSheepQueen
                                  • Go-Go’s – “Our Lips Are Sealed” – keys by FujiSkunk
                                  • Go-Go’s – “We Got the Beat” – keys by TheSheepQueen

The Standard Spiel: What Is the Rock Band Harmonies Project?

For those who might be new to the project, the original project announcement by espher, founder of the RBHP, still has plenty of good info. Besides the files hosted on GitHub, the most important bits are the RBHP Custom Packager, and espher’s tutorial on how to use it. The tutorial is still on YouTube. The packager is available here.

For those who have purchased pro-guitar upgrades for legacy DLC, note that these cause conflicts with RBHP upgrades, and so you should not use the RBHP Custom Packager to add keys and harmonies to tracks with pro upgrades. In particular, “Under the Bridge” has a pro upgrade, so be aware if you decide to update that song for keys and harmonies.

                                  Hold Up…

“Wait a minute, Fuji,” I hear you saying. “You can’t have an artist pack with just two songs!” Right you are, so here’s another Go-Go’s track, “Vacation”! Originally charted and released by Nunchuck and Sygenysis, this new version has genuine pro keys, plus some polish for the 5-lane keys track. The audio now includes a count-in as well.

So there you go, three packs from three artists with three songs each, all waiting to be played on your favorite keyboard. Enjoy!
