The holidays are upon us! This means many things — never-ending holiday music, awkward conversations with family, black ice — but at C3, it means that it’s the season for giving. We’ve had the pleasure of serving you weekly DLC every Friday since April, and we’d like to give some extra-special presents this December. Today, we’re proud to kick off The Twelve Days of Customs, a series of personal gifts from twelve of our authors to you, our dedicated players!
Starting today, we’ll be announcing one song every day through December 24, and then releasing them in a 12-song megapack on December 25. The songs aren’t Christmas- or holiday-themed; they’re a series of big hits personally selected by each author. They have been carefully cultivated for maximum awesomeness, and we hope you’ll look forward to each day’s reveal!
We’re also taking this opportunity to let you get to know our authors a little bit better. Each day’s announcement will be accompanied by a little blurb from that author, about their involvement with C3 or pretty much whatever they want. Today’s reveal is from TrojanNemo, our amazingly dedicated tool programmer, video recorder, and all-around badass admin. Hit the rest of this post for Nemo’s piece and the big reveal, and check back tomorrow for day 2 of The Twelve Days of Customs!

I have to go first?! Why? I’m really bad at this. Is this thing on? Check. Check. Alright. Let’s do this.
Hi, I’m TrojanNemo. Unlike most of you, my first rhythm games were GH Warriors of Rock and Rock Band 3. So prior to late 2010, I didn’t know what GH/RB was…at all! Needless to say life was never the same after I picked up my first plastic guitar. In a similar way, I didn’t know about customs until Harmonix decided they were going to kill them. So the day TU5 was released, was the first day I learned that customs were a thing…and my life changed again. I found the GHtoRB3 team and was so impressed with the quality of their work and dedication that I decided to try to convert some songs too. The GHtoRB3 team helped me learn the ropes and on December 2011 my first songs were released (GH WoR’s Rocky Horror Picture Show pack) and the rest is history. Even though this is about me, I want to take a couple of lines to thank the GHtoRB3 team for all they did. In my eyes they were the real trailblazers of quality customs and without whom I know, 100%, I would not have been involved in customs and consequently, would not have been a part of C3!
If you’ve followed my releases since the old days back on Xbox360ISO you probably noticed my “musical tastes” are all over the place. I don’t have any one band I’m obsessive about, I like a little bit of everything and I think my customs reflect that. I have to say that one of the best things about Rock Band’s impact in my life is how it opened my eyes to worlds of music I didn’t know even existed and now truly enjoy. But I suspect that’s the same for most of us here. With that in mind, I chose this song as my present to you because 1) it’s Queen 2) it’s extremely fun on all instruments 3) it’s got a great message and 4) it’s Queen! Even if you haven’t heard it, give it a try. You will love it. And if you’re a guitar player, I got three words for you: Spanish Guitar solo!
This is also a bittersweet moment for me. This is not only the song I picked to gift you for Christmas, but this will also be the last song I ever author. As some of you may already know, my time at C3 is coming to a close. For the last few months I had an abundance of free time, and I tried my best to dedicate most of it to helping C3 become what it is today. Unfortunately, life moves on and a new chapter in my life begins next year that will prevent me from being involved in the community. I will be around for the remainder of December and maybe the first couple of weeks of January, but by February I’ll be gone and most likely will not return. This is a sad moment because, well, I’ve been here since the start and this has definitely been my dearest project to date. But it’s also a happy moment, because I leave a community that a few months ago was fragmented and barely hanging on, as what I consider to be the strongest presence in customs ever, with nearly 600 songs in our database, over 500 forum members, a group of extremely talented authors and very dedicated team of admins who I know will keep C3 rocking well after I’m gone. I hope that my contributions will make a difference, however small, in keeping this great community alive. Happy Holidays!

(Remember, this is just a reveal; all of the songs will be released together on December 25. Check back tomorrow for another awesome song!)

  1. TrojanNemo, very sad to hear you’re departing! I’ve appreciated your efforts immensely and thank you for all you’ve contributed. Back in 360ISO land you created a special version of Pink Floyd – Money for me and I never got back to you about the results (not enough participation to earn the right to PM). Needless to say it had the desired effect, so THANK YOU! Perhaps you should leave that one as a parting gift here?

  2. TrojanNemo, thank you for everything you’ve done for the RB Customs community. I think I can safely say you’ve been hugely important for all of us, and we will miss you dearly when you move on to the next phase of your life. I wish you the best of luck, whatever life brings you next. Keep on rockin’!

  3. I’m fairly new to this community, but I appreciate all you’ve done to keep Rock Band alive. Thanks for everything and good luck with everything you do.

  4. Nemo singlehandedly changed the way we do customs. He effectively ushered in a “2.0” customs era with 10+ minute songs, pro G/B Magma compatibility, original album art import and much more… He is a true first ballot RB customs Hall of Famer. It’s been a privilege for all customs authors to have him in the customs community and anybody who ever thought of making a custom song should salute Nemo and wish him the same success in life he achieved in the customs world.
