• Awesome, Party Buffalo seems to have taken it. Thanks for the tip!

I know you’re not the first to have the problem, but i just wonder HOW people have problems with Modio. I have never, in nearly two years, have had a problem with it. Only time I resort to Party Buffalo is when transferring directly from my xbox hard drive (Modio doesn’t support that) or transferring 1GB+ files (again, Modio doesn’t support that). But for everything else, I prefer it. Why? Drag and drop baby. Drag and drop. :c00l:

I actually don’t have any problems with Modio. For every Rockband custom up until the last couple weeks, I’d do the same thing. Right click and insert, didn’t know about drag and drop. And that still works for the older songs. It’s the new ones that are acting differently. It’s definitely the files. User error is the first thing you want to assume, but the user’s technique works on the old files just fine.

A possibility is consistently bad downloads. Anybody set up to check the MD5 hash of a file? I use winMD5sum, it’s free and comes as a portable app (unpacks, doesn’t install to the system). Anyway, the Johnny Cash version of “Hurt” I have, that I can’t get Modio to inject, has the following MD5 hash:

    60c12b3d7626e48325bf6cfe523b650c

So… am I getting bad downloads, maybe?

Modio won’t insert any of the ones I downloaded. I suspected a bad download the first time, so I downloaded one again, and when that failed, I deleted it and downloaded it a third time. Same result.

When Modio fails, it doesn’t kick out an error or anything. It just does nothing. You can confirm it by inserting the song a second time. If you do this with a working song, it will say the song is already there, would you like to overwrite? Whereas with the defective file, it will try, and fail.

You can also see the result immediately as Modio sorts by modification time. The last song I added was “We’re Not Gonna Take It.” Nothing new can be added, at least not from the last two weeks.

    My drive isn’t full, either.

Since people are confirming they work, is there another tool that can be used? I only know Modio.

in reply to: Rock Band extras that never were #403826

I was hoping for a PC release as well. Rocksmith is on Steam, and the songs are ridiculously expensive. But Steam’s DRM is not set up for families or even couples, it is very much intended to be for just one person, and that’s hard to make work with something like Rockband where two to four people want to play together.

I was also hoping for more customization. More characters, more clothing options, more hair options, the ability to have large people and teenagers or kids (why not, all the songs are clean… the official ones anyway). I mean if you have a kid, especially a girl, she wants a girl character, not a woman who doesn’t look like her and can’t be made to. I mean, consider a family of four. Mother, father, brother, sister. The mother and father can reproduce themselves in the game (as long as they’re skinny), but the kids can’t. This might not seem like a big deal if you’re an adult, but I’ve played with kids, and almost all of them wished you could make a kid character. And it’s not like there isn’t real-world precedent. The Jackson Five were mostly (all?) children. They’re in Rockband. Kittie started out as four 13-14 year old girls. I think Kittie got a song in Rockband. It’s not Brackish, so it really doesn’t matter, but I think they got one in. And Van Halen replaced their bassist with Eddie’s son, Wolfgang. And Van Halen weren’t in Rockband, but they were in that other game series.

But also, specific “Bandmates” you could buy. For example you could buy the likeness of Jimi Hendrix, Dave Grohl, etc. I think pricing would be fair at $1/artist or $3/band, but I think they should have been included in the packs. They’d be 100% created with the in-game tools, and their outfits would be available for free, but the official ones would have some kind of indicator so you know it’s not just a cheapskate copy. I know The Beatles didn’t want to be seen playing any modern music (or have their songs played by the avatars) but I think that’s a fairly minority opinion. After all, what do The Beatles think of cover bands?

in reply to: George Strait #403173

+1 to Garth Brooks and +1 to George Strait. I’m not a fan of George Strait at all but the man is a modern country music legend. I’ve heard it said that the soundtrack to a Texan’s life is George Strait’s discography. That’s a pretty solid endorsement. But Garth has some awesome songs that would be fun to play. Speaking strictly as a vocalist, I would want “Calling Baton Rogue” and “Standing Outside the Fire.” Of course, if any consideration is given to “The Thunder Rolls” or “Friends in Low Places,” the studio versions must be completely ignored, in favor of the live versions (they’re longer, have extra verses, wicked solo, etc.).

Big thanks for Nemo (Nightwish) even if it’s not “up to C3 standards.” I just felt Nightwish deserved better than the snub Harmonix gave them by releasing only one song with the new vocalist. Honestly I’d much rather have something from Wishmaster (e.g. the title track), Century Child (Slaying the Dreamer, perhaps), or Oceanborn (either Devil & the Deep Dark Ocean or The Pharaoh Sails to Orion would be great for the metal crowd), but since I lack the skills to chart, I’ll just smile and say thankee-sai (i.e., “Thank you,” from Stephen King’s Dark Tower universe) and hope for the future.

in reply to: Rageer’s customs // ( Wavves – Afraid of Heights) #402723

Thanks for Ready Steady Go. My wife and I are big(ish) fans of Fullmetal Alchemist. Well, she’s a big fan, I just thought it was a cool story.

Quick question about difficulties: Is it really that hard to chart the lower difficulties for vocals? Seems like it’s the same chart but the lower difficulties offer more leniency. In Rockband 2 and I think 1 as well, the bars got wider showing that you didn’t have to be dead on, but in #3 they can be razor thin even on Easy (while still being tolerant of mistakes). Or is it, if you do, say, EMH for Vocals, you have to chart those difficulties for all available instruments as well? I only ask because, while I suppose it’s quite likely that most Rockband players who know about and use customs are probably Expert players as well, I can only do Expert on vocals (though I prefer Hard, seems like with Expert I break combos even though I fill the pie and stay right on the bar and damn that’s frustrating, but I think I can pass everything on Expert without help, e.g. Good Vibrations, that one really hard Jackson 5 song, etc).

tl;dr: Thanks. Keep up the good work! Hope we get EMH at some point in the future.

Third’d, it’s part of the “Without You” trilogy that Axl Rose and Del James sort of hammered out. That story’s kind of a long rabbit hole to get into, but basically Del James wrote this semi-autobiographical piece about Axl Rose as this tragic rock star, and “Don’t Cry,” “Estranged,” and “November Rain” made up the soundtrack. It appeared as a short story, “Without You,” in an anthology, but the publisher went over. That’s the story the “November Rain” video alludes to at the end, and collecting it was one of the early driving forces behind eBay in its early years, at least until somebody OCR’d the story and posted it online for those of us who don’t have a thousand bucks (not lying) to drop on a book. Good story if you want to look it up, very short, gives back story on the “November Rain” video as well as depth to the other videos.

I’d love to get some John Mellencamp songs in Rockband. I won’t argue for their greatness, but I grew up with them, so it would be good for the nostalgia. GH5 got “Hurts So Good.” We can do better but I’d be happy with that one for starters.

    Definitely need some U2.

Anything major by any of these would be great, though.

in reply to: “Party in the USA” by Miley Cyrus? #401900
I saw the song posted over at xbox360iso.com a couple weeks ago, in one of the Rock Band threads. Go search over there and you should be able to find a link to it.

When was it pulled? Because I bought “See You Again” and “7 Things” the day the pack came out. “Party in the USA” was never available to buy… at least I never saw it.

Any idea why they pulled it?

I have put up every official removed song available here. Party in the USA is here.

    Awesome, thanks.

Seconded. This is a cool rock/hard rock song that would be a good addition to anybody’s collection.

    in reply to: May 31, 2013 – 7 new singles + 3 FtV singles #401402

Latest version? If there was an update, I didn’t know. I just grabbed it from the Song Database.

Downloaded correctly? Well, the size wasn’t suspect, and it plays the preview in the Song Library (in Rockband 3) so I don’t think it was a corrupt download.

First time I tried playing it was as a vocalist alone; second time was as a vocalist with a drummer. Since somebody else said it froze for them while on vocals but not guitar.

in reply to: Poll: What do you care about in a custom? #401349

I will be honest — I just care that it works. I’ve played customs (not sure which and from where) where the animations were all kinds of horrible. Didn’t bother me one bit, because I was paying attention to my track (vocals). I mean, the drummer was facing backwards, and all the others were piled on top of him. It was a mess. But you know what? It’s easier than the music video background. I hate those. So distracting, and if I had epilepsy, I would not even be able to play.

Main thing I care about is, is it a good song? Do I like it, and/or will party guests like it. Followed closely by, are the tracks fair? I don’t know enough about authoring to know what is and isn’t RBN or Harmonix quality. I’m certainly not trying to judge anyone’s authoring. I have played a couple customs where stuff seemed near impossible to hit. So I care about fairness. It isn’t a deal breaker, but if I feel I know a song and I can’t do good on it, it’s kind of a downer. But I really don’t know how much control an author has over that. I mean the vocals track. I’ve seen some straight up unfair drum tracks (I think they’re 2x bass pedal, though not marked as such). I feel bad for the drummer (I married her) but honestly, I really only judge the vocals. Let others judge the rest; I’m in no position to.

For what it works; hope it helps.

    in reply to: May 31, 2013 – 7 new singles + 3 FtV singles #401347

I apologize if this is out of line or the wrong place to ask, but has anybody successfully played “Scotty Doesn’t Know”? Both times I’ve played it — once on its own, and the second time in a playlist — when the Xbox goes to load it, it just freezes and hangs. Many other customs haven’t had this problem. Our Xbox is kind of old and I’m not 100% sure it’s that custom, but it’s hung twice while playing customs, and on that one. So I’m just wondering if anybody has successfully played the song, and I thank you all for giving us the opportunity to play these customs. (Cover or not, I appreciate seeing “Scotty Doesn’t Know” — it’s a generic feel-good rock song, so it should be fun on all instruments, and it’s got some quirky lyrics. Perfect party song, and everyone who saw Eurotrip knows the words, or at least the chorus.)

in reply to: More J-Rock/Anime Music in the future? #400083

Thanks for the reply. I don’t know what FtV means, but I can wait. Incidentally, it’s the first I heard of customs being widely available. Someone on another forum made a post about that pack, saying anyone who says they won’t sing “Let her cry” is a liar… I definitely would! I made fun of Hootie back in the ’90s (as much as any other metalhead) but they were good, and in any case, I have no shame when it comes to Rockband… I got Gangnam Style, Ice Ice Baby, Wannabe (Spice Girls), Barbie Girl (Aqua), I don’t care. I’ll sing it once. I got two of the Miley Cyrus songs (official DLC) for my niece to sing, and they’re fun enough. Good for parties at least. Anyway, keep up the good work.
