If you’re starting from scratch, just create an empty text file there named “songs.dta”.
In my case, I’m trying to restore some old data. I had my Free Pack installed on my last PS3, but I lost all those songs. I do have all my customs though.
Problem is, when I enable the free pack, it overwrites the songs.dta with all my customs. Is there an easy way to combine the Free Pack songs with the songs.dta that I already have? Can I just copy/paste at the end of the songs.dta or is there some metadata that I would corrupt?
Had to reimaged my HD. Have all my files saved from the directory with custom songs and songs.dta
However I am having trouble restoring a bunch of other DLC I originally had downloaded on the console. I believe those files may have been stored elsewhere, as they were not restored. Or perhaps I need to reactivate the files.
I still have the original PS3 with all the purchased content as well.
What’s my best method to restoring the other files that are missing?
September 3, 2021 at 7:08 pm in reply to: A handful of my customs are missing after re-imaging my HD #518896For some more background — I had previously combined all my official DLC that I bought with my CFW PS3, but I’m not entirely sure what I originally did to do this.
I had songs from the free packs, official DLC, RB1&RB2 exports, and RB3 customs. It seems like I can only get the latter working and appearing.
Do I need to get PKG files for all the old content? I don’t see some of the song names in my songs.dta file, so I’m not sure how the old console knew about them.
I’m thinking maybe they weren’t a part of the songs.dta since they were official songs. Would these have to be re-downloaded on my PSN account, as these are packages instead of files that are stored in the HMX0756/songs folder? I backed up the latter but I never backed up anything else on my PS3, wondering if those songs were stored elsewhere.
One other thought — I have my official PS3 that I use my normal PSN account on and have all my officially purchased RB3 DLC on. Could I take a raw copy of this HD, and then put that on a new HD and install HEN there? If I remove my PSN account before installing HEN, could I still access all my official DLC that I had on this HD? I feel like that may be the quickest way to get all my files back.
I think I’m all set, may have just been that I didn’t copy the entirety of my library over, so songs.dta was likely referring to songs that weren’t there and crashing the game. After a full copy, it works fine. Gonna give a look through tomorrow to confirm everything runs like it used to. This process to recover was almost too easy. Time to make an image of the disk.
Thanks for that info. I think I’m just missing something. I’m coming from a previously working console and I’m just missing steps on how to initialize the RB3 setup in general. Trying to find out if I need that free song pack or something else in order for any of these to work. Or maybe my songs.dta are referring to some that I hadn’t yet copied over; so I’m pulling the entirety of my backup now.
For your issue, I feel like I’ve seen that before in the past. Can you confirm the song is in songs.dta?
Freshly-homebrew’d PS3, updated RB3 game, trying to copy my customs collection back over to RB3. Do I need to install the Free Pack in order for it to work?
I made the HMX0756/songs folder and copied some in with my songs.dta, but it’s freezing as soon as I load the “choose a song” screen.
Any other prerequisites I need to do before putting my collection back on?

Holy hell. This thing is awesome. I never knew it existed. Thank you!!!!

Is this using the process you mention above (opening PSN Patch and pressing triangle)? Or is there some way to boot using regular firmware on the same PS3? I was under the impression all accounts on that PS3 would use the same firmware?
July 23, 2017 at 6:37 pm in reply to: Is there any way to retrieve my old RBN songs from my old PS3? #488280I personally never used the built in transfer tool so I didn’t knew it was the whole thing.
As for an updated CFW I suggest rebug 4.81 (easy to find on google) and using PSNPatch.
Basically just update your CFW through USB; then boot PSNPatch and hit Triangle; this will disable CFW features and spoof your firmware as an OFW and close PSNPatch. You won’t be able to use any homebrew stuff untill you reboot; but you can go online safely then. I still suggest to use a separate PS3 account to go online; one that you won’t boot any homebrew. (PSN can read through your History; while PSNPatch supposedly wipe it; still safer to use an account that don’T boot any homebrew.)
If I use a separate PS3 account to go online (like a new one I set up or something?) I was under the impression I wouldn’t be able to download any of my prior purchases, would that be true? Ideally my goal is to be able to get online and re-download all my old RB3 DLC that I had purchased and combine that with my C3 Customs. As it stands I have a separate PS3 to play those other songs, I had a huge library of official DLC, it would just be great to get them all on the same system.
Thanks!

As for PSNPatch: As long as your CFW is updated (Now it
Was hoping to do this, but it looks like this is a full replacement of the PS3 that is being transferred to? It said it will delete all data and then transfer everything? Would this even work transferring from a CFW to non-CFW?
If the above is not going to work, looks like the only option is to try and bring my CFW PS3 online. Where is the best place to find information about how to upgrade CFW and acquire things like PSNPatch? It’s been a few years since doing my CFW and I’ve totally forgotten.
Thanks!

Thanks for the extra info! Is it advisable that I should first upgrade to these newer versions before attempting to go online — specifically — are the older versions more prone to getting a ban?
Regarding ‘banning myself’ — in a way, yes. However, I use my account on my other PS3 and if I lost that I would lose the ability to do that, as well as a very rare name since I set up my PS account on the day of release.
Thanks again!

What you can do is use your PSN account on your CFW PS3 and download the songs there. You can activate 2 PS3s per account so this is the easiest way (If you do that make sure to use PSNPatch or any other means for ban protection). Another way would be network transfer using the system’s transfer software; but if your CFW is on an older firmware than your OFW I don’t know if that works.
I also know of someone who did the other way around: Installed customs on his CFW and then network transferred to his OFW; and yes it apparently it works.
So PSNPatch is a means to access your PSN content but prevent a ban? When I dealt with the CFW install a few years back I remember hearing about people getting banned when accessing things they purchased, so I stayed away from that.
Alternatively, the system transfer software is something within the PS3? Does it need both systems on the same internal network, or some kind of cable between the two systems?

??
I have and use this, but primarily for converting songs. Granted I’ve used about 20% of its features, but, is there something that this tool can do with my official PS3? I’m doubting this tool holds my solution, but I’d be happily mistaken if you can let me know just exactly what I could do?
Not really. You said the problem was duped songs, just find the duplicates and delete them?
That’s my plan, but I was hoping there might be a way to identify which is which? Let’s say I see a song name in songs.dta twice, I know one of those needs to be deleted. But which one? One will be for a song that was either overwritten or outdated, and the other will be for the newer song.
Is there any way for me to know which is which?
Every song inside the DTA begins with ”(” on a line and ends with ”)” on a line. Just open it with notepad ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_cheeky.001.gif” />
The problem is I won’t know which song in songs.dta is a bad song and which is a good. I’d like to find an easy way to clean up… but I’m not sure if that’s possible?
