Let’s play Twister, let’s play Risk; today is Andy Kaufman’s birthday! And some actual musician birthdays, including Steve Earle, Tiësto, Andy Rourke, and Zooey Deschanel. Oh, and even more non-musician birthdays, including Michelle Obama, Betty White, Genndy Tartakovsky, James Earl Jones, Muhammad Ali, Al Capone, Jim Carrey, and…Kid Rock. Ha, get it? Because I put him in the non-musician list. We have fun here.
Rock Band is a party game to a large part of its playerbase, and it’s hard to beat catchy pop hooks in a party situation. This week’s Girls of Pop pack features three earworms that you should be glad you didn’t have to playtest, because oh my god please get them out of my head! Nyxyxylyth, HankScorpio, and a collaboration of Gigakoops and Nightmare Lyre bring us Britney’s colossal hit “Toxic”, Ke$ha’s unfairly catchy “Die Young”, and the now-infamous “Wrecking Ball” by Mademoiselle Cyrus. We considered calling this “Guilty Pleasures C02”, but that would be super disrespectful to…zero to three of the artists in this pack, depending on who you ask.
On the other side of the spectrum, farottone hooks us up with three songs from Poison’s 1993 outing Native Tongue. The album’s two leading singles, “Stand” and “Until You Suffer Some”, are represented in this pack, along with the upbeat Poison anthem “7 Days over You”. This pack bolsters Rock Band’s anemic selection of blues rock, with great keys parts, awesome harmonies, gospel-y Bret Michaels action, and (of course) fun guitar licks. If you like rock music — like, rock music — this pack is for you! And remember to pick up “Nothin’ but a Good Time”, “Talk Dirty to Me”, “Unskinny Bop”, and “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” from the official DLC store to get more Poison in your life.
Fixes uploaded in the last week to previous C3 releases include:

  • Jukebox the Ghost – “Hold It In”: Added some missing practice sections, very small lyrics fix

See you next Friday!

  1. I probably won’t be downloading any of this song’s releases.
Would I be shunned if I admitted that I actually do like Wrecking Ball?
Not the video of course, that’s just disgusting. I meant the song itself.
Well, it’s better than We Can’t Stop at any rate.

  2. Thanks once again for working hard to keeping it alive and gotta grab the pop hits gotta do it and this might just be me but Kesha isn’t showing up as a multi-track/karaoke mix in the game.

  3. Die Young was originally done as multitrack, but we had issues with the stems missing some of the instrument parts so it was rolled back to single track. I think I forgot to update the database with this information, so I’ll see if I can get that changed.
