How do you get the notes to make a sound in REAPER. This could help me out with Vocal Authoring.
November 19, 2015 at 3:45 pm #459520Are you using the C3 template?
January 8, 2016 at 8:08 pm #461769Hello,
Hopefully someone will see this and be able to help. I used to play custom songs on RB3 audition mode, back when Magma v2 was heavily used. Those files are sitting on my computer as the old format, so yesterday I stumbled on the C3 Con Tools software and first of all, WOW! My love for customs has returned!
So here’s my issue: I used the CON converter tool to convert all my old Between the Buried and Me songs to rbcon files, but they do not show up when I boot up Rock Band. I downloaded another rbcon file from the database here to test, and it shows up no issues. Is there something extra I need to do with these old songs recently converted? Do I need to use Magma v3 to “rebuild” the rbcon files?
Thanks for your help!
January 8, 2016 at 10:22 pm #461772You shouldn’t have to, no. Make sure there’s no song id or song file name conflict with the resulting CON files. If anything, post the DTA files here to look at, but it should work fine.

March 5, 2016 at 3:54 am #464676the pksage’s general “Let’s Author!” stream is not working… is there another link?

May 1, 2016 at 11:17 pm #467980First off I want to state how awesome this site is and the opportunity you give us all the chance to play songs we would love to play in Rockband. Now with that being said I would love to contribute to this site but have trouble as some others do in trying to chart music. I see that the pksage stream video isn’t working still and not sure what it includes. I’m sure some of the people here have trouble reading a guide and applying it rather then viewing it and learning it that way. I know i’m more of a visual learning then reading a guide becasue I feel sometimes they aren’t clear in what exactly needs to be done. Would any of the great authors on this forum be able to record a tutorial of them actually creating a song so we can see hands on how it’s done and what steps to take when using a MIDI File and everything. This is just a suggestion that’s all and keep on doing the great job you all are doing thanks…

If I recall correctly, pksage’s vid explains how to set up everything (plugins, how to change to the correct colormaps…) with his own preferences (Reaper 4.22, favorite skin), how to start authoring a song (including tempo mapping) and he offered to review some charts for others during his stream. I also did an authoring livestream last month, but in a less professional way to say the least. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_cheeky.001.gif” />
I’ll probably do another one in the future since it seemed like some people were interested, but I don’t think it would be as in-depth as pksage’s stream.
In the meantime, if you prefer visual learning there are already several authoring videos out there, some of them in the first post:
drummerockband’s video on tempo mapping and drums charting
nyxyxylyth’s video on charting vocals (with a bit on tempo mapping as well)
TrojanNemo’s vids on using C3 CON Tools and Magma C3
My video on converting/authoring from a FOF or Phase Shift chart
My video on tempo mapping (that leave you with many options on how to tempo map, which is the hardest thing to grasp in custom songs authoring).
+ many others on YouTube as it seems, some from RBN-era.
However, you still have to try it out by yourself in my opinion, and figure out some stuff along the way. It’s the best way to learn, and as far as custom songs are concerned, there are many subtle things that can’t really be explained in-depth in a short youtube video.
Authoring guidelines, for instance, are a must-read, and charting instruments like drums or vocals can be particularly hard when you’re starting out. Your first customs won’t be perfect and it will take time, but in my opinion the whole process is rewarding. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />

June 6, 2016 at 10:58 pm #469977I don’t think so, I pinged pksage to chime in, hopefully he’ll do that soon.
