Sad news in the world of Music Video Games. So in case you guys didn’t hear the news, Rocksmith has ended all future dlc support for the game and will no longer receive weekly dlc packs. This ends over 8 years of DLC packs and support, starting with the original Rocksmith back in 2011. I was a big fan of Rocksmith, as it helped me a lot with learning the fundamentals of guitar, and bass. It was a great experience learning how to actually play guitar. Personally, I was upset we never got a “The Smiths” pack, but I was very happy we got a Joy Division pack, and 3 Radiohead packs as well. This news also made me wonder how much longer Harmonix will continue to do Rock Band dlc. As we will be coming up to the 5 year mark for Rock Band 4 in the fall, and a brand new console generation on the horizon as well.

What were your guy’s favorite memories with Rocksmith? Did you have a favorite DLC Pack, or was there one you wanted but they never released?

Don’t expect RB4 to last much longer either. PS5 on the way.

Would we expect a new GH or RB for the next generation of console?

I agree with you. Rocksmith is a great game to learn new songs and techniques, or to just make it more cheerful to practice with the instruments.

Fortunately, the custom community will keep Rocksmith alive. Won’t be the same, but it’s something…

And about Rock Band: apparently, Xbox Series will be very compatible with Xbox One games and controllers, so there’s a chance that at least we can keep playing our “old” Rock Band 4 in the new console with the same instruments plugged (or synchronized <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif” />.

Sad to see RockSmith DLC end. But there’s lots available and as mentioned… customs will take over.

As to the end of RB4…

Yeah, I don’t know about PS5, but it’s already been stated by MS that if it works on the one right now, it’ll work on Series X.

No reason to believe RB4 would be left out.

Now whether HMX decides to kill the game or not would be on them. But it wouldn’t be for lack of a next gen console to play the game on.

wasn’t this the case last time? and you needed that converter adapter to play old guitars etc with? and then the pnp adapter for ion and ekits to communicate with the midi adapter?. so by working you mean most people will already have all the pieces to make it work

I’m honestly surprised RB4 is still getting DLC at this point.

More songs that get taken down from here haha, but in all seriousness I really think the hype for RB4 or the big return of Rock Band has died down. Its only a matter of time until RB4 games are in the bargain bin at retail stores unless they already have. I have 3 copies of RB4/Revivals but I just prefer RB3 for the customs & for the accessibility for me.

Not exactly. If what Microsoft says is true, your Xbone RB4 disc will play in the Series X, and your controllers will connect to the Series X without any special adapters. RB3 doesn’t work in the Xbone, and the controllers don’t work without adapters, so it’s not quite the same thing.

What will be interesting to see is how easily the DLC carries over even if everythign else works out of the box. Depending on how specifically those contracts are worded, the songs may not be properly licensed to move ahead to the Series X, and we’ll be going through the labyrinth of entitlements all over again.

true but if you wanted to use your 360 gear or your ekit on series X as i don’t even know if new drums and guitars were made for rb4. guitars i suppose? you still have to have multiple adapters to convert the 360 gear to play with. what i was referring to was the headache of all the adapters to play on xbone….and that’s assuming the next system will recognized the adapters to play the old gear…

Yup, customs as well as the lack of Keyboard are the main reasons I haven’t had any desire to “upgrade.” RB4 feels more like a trial version of RB3 than a worthy successor.

I’d have been willing to change Rock Band platforms if they at least kept pro keys/guitar, but I don’t even remember seeing a very affordable way to port my Xbox 360 Ion drum kit to PS4. They just took too much of the game away that they had established with RB3.

Would we expect a new GH or RB for the next generation of console?

                          Good question.

First, PS5 is backward compatible with PS4 games. Whether RB and GH controllers are compatible too might be another matter.

If for example RB4 and its accessories still work in PS5, it’s likely DLC will continue, but maybe they won’t invest in a new RB5 game.

If they do invest in a new game, it might be just a fresh-look RB4 clone. New functionalities require a larger investment, and considering that the RB3->RB4 change was actually an overall functional downgrade, I would not expect anything really new in RB5.

As for keyboard and pro guitar, my personal opinion is that they discontinued them because too few people bought them and they are probably the most costly to chart into DLC. Their functionalities could have been ported to RB4, but then they should have provided enough DLC with keys and pro guitar, and maybe the prospect of having to pay their charters to do those instruments for a small player base was not economical.
