Here’s an idea:
Some of the songs that show up in the Xbox and in the game, right click on them in RBtoUSB and open them in their folder. Make a note of the exact folder path.
Now repeat that for some of the songs that don’t show up.
If the folders are not the same, RBtoUSB is putting the files in the wrong folder and that’s why the Xbox and game don’t see them. In that case, send me a couple of those files (don’t link me to the original, upload the specific files you have).
If the folders are the same, the problem is not with RBtoUSB but with the files (are they corrupt? can you open them successfully with Visualizer, Song Analyzer, etc?) or with your Xbox.
August 2, 2015 at 11:48 pm #451905All the song files (showing and not showing alike) are in the folder
F:Content 00000000000000045410914 0000001
Which is where they should be.
I opened one of this week’s C3 songs in Visualizer and it popped up just fine and started playing the audio preview, etc.
I’m beginning to suspect my USB drive is failing because the xbox seems fine and the files and their location seems fine, but I don’t think that’s the case because it works fine on windows…
In the meantime I’d still appreciate any ideas, but I have no idea what to expect anymore.
August 3, 2015 at 12:06 am #451911Hmm. I tried copying about 150 of my newest files onto a different flash drive than I usually use (a little 2gb one) and the xbox only detects about 40 of them. I’m not sure if they’re the same ones that got detected before.
August 3, 2015 at 9:50 pm #452008I tried doing it completely fresh the original way, by taking out my hard drive, putting in a flash drive, formatting it on the xbox (so it has all its memory apparently taken up, since the 360 is not updated), and putting songs and TU4 in the proper folder with party buffalo
This time the 360 detected them all in its file manager, but the game detected no DLC at all.
I’m really starting to get frustrated with this…
Edit: I used party buffalo because I just wanted to try it a different way to see if it would work. I don’t think RBtoUSB is causing the problem, but I don’t know what is at this point
August 4, 2015 at 8:54 pm #452075I even bought a new flash drive and tried loading all my stuff on to it, and STILL, only about 2 GB of maybe 18 GB are detected in the 360’s file manager.
Everything’s in the right folder, I’ve tried opening a few no-shows with visualizer and they work, I don’t know what the fuck is going on. I don’t know what could be broken in the console to stop it from reading files on a USB drive… I don’t think the problem is the flash drives, all four of them can’t be broken in the same way at the same time…
I’ve tried using RBtoUSB, and just manually copy pasting things with windows…as before, not only does the game not recognize a majority of the files, but the 360 itself doesn’t see them. It does see the correct amount of space is available on the flash drive, but it says the rock band 3 folder is much smaller than it should be (in terms of G:cool:. As before, everything looks fine on the actual computer.
I might have to try re-downloading like 1400 songs from C3 and other places to see if fresh copies help it, but that would be a huge pain and it might not work anyway.
August 4, 2015 at 9:45 pm #452079Have you tried formatting a drive in the 360 and then copying a song from the official RB3 content on the 360 hard drive to the thumb drive? After that, the folder structure will definitely be correct on the thumb drive and you can just add songs to the thumb drive in the same folder where the song you copied from the 360 hard drive is located using windows explorer on the PC.
August 4, 2015 at 10:03 pm #452081That’s a good idea and that is how I used to do it when I used party buffalo, but the problem is I know the folder structure is correct. The issue is that the folder has about 1700 things in it (from viewing it in windows, not just RBtoUSB, which shows things from multiple folders at the same time, such as TU4), but the 360 only recognizes about 200 or so of them.
I’ll do what you suggested to verify the folder structure but I’m sure that’s not the issue.
Incidentally I formatted yet again and redownloaded a handful of songs from C3 and a few unofficial ones and they all show up, but I’m not sure if this will continue to be the case if I increase the number of songs. Well, I guess I’ll have to try.
At this point I’m almost more interested in what’s causing the problem than actually playing things… I’m so frustrated over not being able to fix this that I care more about learning what the problem is than solving it, lol
October 3, 2015 at 10:50 pm #456651I am also having this exact same problem. The 360 file explorer basically only sees a small number of the files I have loaded. Deleting a file and re-adding it does nothing. About to try reformatting the USB stick and re-adding everything, just to see if I get different results.
October 3, 2015 at 11:19 pm #456654Update: not sure why, but it’s only the files I first uploaded that are working. They are a motley collection from multiple C3 packs. They just happen to be the first 52 files, in alphabetical order of the file name.
I formatted the drive and uploaded a new set, the files that take place where it left off, without any of the known successes. The Xbox is still failing to recognize them. I’m thinking it has to be something with the C3 tools.
October 4, 2015 at 12:38 am #456657Nope, it’s not a problem with the tools.

October 4, 2015 at 4:39 pm #456694Oh ME oh MY thank you sah for setting me straight! I am surely convinced by the supreme brevity of your statement that no other truth must possibly be the case! I have seen the error of my ways!
SIGH.
I said “I’m thinking” which implies it’s a THEORY. I hope I’m wrong, to be honest. No one seems to have any answers so far in this thread. I apologize if I came across as bashing the software, I’m just looking for answers and help. These tools are amazing, but I am frustrated.
I say the tools because it’s unlikely to be any of the following:
– The Drive: The drive was reformatted, and yet the same exact songs failed to be seen by the Xbox, even though no other songs were present
– The Songs: They’re a wildly diverse collection from throughout the C3 timeline. It’s also unlikely any one song among them is ruining the rest, as I had previous success with OTHER songs while these songs were present.
– The Game and TU: Have had success with other songs.
– The Xbox: Possible but unlikely, as I can see no reason why the machine would only acknowledge the first 50 or so uploaded by the tools.

Have you tried just copying the files from the Windows’ explorer? I mean, RBtoUSB basically does just that. If you copy a file using RBtoUSB and it doesn’t show up but then copy the same file manually and it shows up, you can desume it’s the tools.
October 5, 2015 at 1:00 am #456745I’ve been playing C3-only customs for a number of weeks without issue. Only in the past week did I discover there were (significantly) custom songs out there, very cool!
I encountered similar issues this weekend using v3.91 of C3 Tools and RBtoUSB. Read this thread in full and tried everything suggested to no avail. The two issues I encountered were:
- After loading all DLC, the entire system crashes when I try to enter the quickplay song list. Requires a reboot.
- DLC appears to load properly, and I can enter the quickplay song list. However, some songs are not showing up in the RB playlist and/or not being recognized by the console.
After extensive troubleshooting, pretty sure I’ve solved #2 and identified the culprit of #1. Someone more familiar with the authoring process will need to help me resolve #1.
#1 took many, many attempts to narrow down. I had a hunch that a single, errant file was bringing down the whole system, and I was right. Each time the game crashed, I went back and deleted the song cache, then deleted another group of songs and tried again. After dozens upon dozens of attempts at paring down my collection, I found Metallica’s Enter Sandman was the problem child. Whenever I attempt to boot up the game with this song on my flash drive, the system freezes when trying to load the quickplay song list. Something funky is happening with this file.
#2 is pretty straightforward. Upon stumbling across a crapload more custom songs than I knew existed, I began assigning more descriptive filenames to songs. After all, it’s not always easy to determine what song the default filename refers to (ex: “GHWT2V”). In many cases, the names I chose were lengthy. Shortening the filenames to <40 characters solved this issue. Note: deleting the song cache did not affect anything for #2.
Perhaps one of the tech gurus can run some tests with Enter Sandman to try and replicate this issue? Happy to upload the version I’m using, if necessary.
October 5, 2015 at 1:13 am #456751We do not discuss official DLC/releases, so no, nobody will address that nor will anybody upload official DLC/releases.
With regard to #2, evidently we make the customs process so easy that it may seem that nothing can break. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif”> Actually, only C3 customs are guaranteed to work by us and only if you leave them untouched. Anything outside of that relies on either you touching them in a way that doesn’t break them or the original author having properly tested in game.

That’s what I thought, which is why I was surprised to find that song linked from a post here. Further searching on the song reveals that its crashing of the system is a known issue.
The tools are indeed easy to use; perhaps too easy? ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif” /> Since it appears RBtoUSB is updated regularly, filename length validation may be a worthwhile consideration. Would certainly cut down on the number of support queries. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
Really appreciate the work you and others put into these resources. Once I get my desktop up and running, I plan to take a crack at authoring some songs.
