Songs not showing up & files seem to be dissappearing?

This 40 character thing may be the key. I just tested by removing the songs with the very long Dream Theater titles, and every other song below that worked. It seems as the 40 character thing is not just breaking the songs with >40 characters, but also preventing further loading of data from the USB, so that it doesn’t even see anything after the >40 songs.

    Will test further this week.

I experienced that as well but somehow forgot to mention it. Also just noticed I have some songs with filenames slightly longer than 40 characters. Wonder what the actual threshold is.

I know there haven’t been any replies on this thread in about a month, but I’m running into this issue as well with just one specific 2x bass version of a song. I’ve tried everything mentioned everywhere I’ve read and I’m at a completely loss. Here’s what I’ve attempted:

-Changing the Song ID (had some other songs that wouldn’t show and this fixed those…)

-Changing the Song Title (whoever named it originally left it the same as the original, which I thought might be the issue but did not solve the problem)

-Starting from scratch (reformatted the drive, re-loaded all the songs)

-Renaming all files to <40 characters (curiously, the game suddenly loaded 10 additional songs after this but since I had re-loaded all the songs I have no idea which ones they were, and the one I was looking for is still missing lol)

-Adding more songs I didn’t have at the same time to force the cache to re-load additional content

-Clearing cache (the “nuclear” option. Did nothing.)

I’m using RBtoUSB for all my transfers and other C3Con Tools for the other things I’ve tried (like the DTA Editor/etc).

Perhaps most curiously, is that the song DOES show as being “loaded” when the game looks for DLC. If I change the information on the song enough that the cache doesn’t recognize it, it sees it as a new song and shows “loading 1 of 1” or if I added other songs at the same time “3 of 3”. The song just doesn’t show in the song list.

Also the original file was formatted as an RBA, so I used the CON Converter tool from the C3 pack to change it to an RB3con. However this has not caused an issue with any of the other songs I’ve converted… perhaps I missed something.

        Things I haven’t tried:

-Re-compiling the song from scratch (I don’t have the knowledge to do this yet, though I’ve started looking into it. I played around with the CON Creator a bit but was getting nowhere…)

-Creating my own version of the song (same reason as above)

If anybody has any insight, please let me know!

        Thank you!

If this is really the case, it means the song shares ID with another song. It gets loaded but it doesn’t show up. Another song will retain the metadata but will play this new song when selected.

I would love it if this were true, but I’ve changed the song ID many many times and I’m sure it’s not a duplicate of anything else… I suppose I could try loading it onto its own flash drive and seeing if it still “loads” just the single song, then see if it shows in the song list or not.

I’m going to go on a hunch here and say the song file predates the use of Magma for customs and the resulting CON is not formatted correctly.

              Upload the file in question…

This wouldn’t surprise me actually. This specific song is a 2x Bass version of Panic Attack, which I know full well is an “official” song (just not an official chart ) and likely won’t be supported directly on this community. I’m guessing I probably shouldn’t upload the file or that might warrant a ban, would it not? Not trying to get in trouble here just trying to play the song. I own all the exports legally but I know that doesn’t make a difference.

                  Probably not a good idea.

                     I read the rules!

Honestly though this is very perplexing. The song shows fine everywhere, in all the tools, plays fine in visualizer, has all the right tracks and files in all the right places…loads up when checking for DLC. Just doesn’t show in the song list. Earlier I thought it was a naming convention issue, but I got that sorted and it didn’t fix. Frustrating lol.

Guess it’s time to research authoring for 10-20 hours and try to take my own crack at making it work. >.< no idea where I'm going to get the time though..

If Visualizer and cPlayer can play the song, then it’s formatted correctly and that’s not the issue.

Well Damn it. I feel so close to fulfilling this 6 year long dream of mine only to have it just beyond my reach, with no clear reason as to WHY. Ugh. If I have some time later I’ll try out the “single song on the flash drive” idea I mentioned earlier… I doubt it’ll make a difference, but who knows.

Official pre-TU5 songs are special cases, I’m not sure you can circumvent that.

Hrmm… If you have any additional details (and if we’re allowed to discuss them, lol) I’d definitely be interested to know more about what you mean by “special cases”. I do have Battery and Enter Sandman (“normal” versions-just like they were exported) working just fine, but I assume you mean alterations of official songs.

Even so.. The game is loading it! It did this when I had some Song IDs out of place on other (actual) customs as well. Not that that really means anything.

This also begs the question of what the source material on the original RBA was. It shows up as a RBN song in all the metadata, and I’m sure it would work that way in audition mode since there is at least one video of it on YouTube (same with some other official tracks), but that doesn’t necessarily mean the source files weren’t from direct rips of export data or something like that.

Or maybe I’m just spewing garbage that doesn’t make any sense. This is mostly just logical reasoning on my part. Lol

TU5 blocks customs. To do so it needs to allow older songs not coming from the store directly to be loaded. To recognize those songs a method that goes beyond tempo mapping is used, so no matter how many times you change the song ID, that song is still recognized as Panic Attack. Are you 100% sure you played Panic Attack, the regular version, and it doesn’t show the double bass chart in game?

Yeah I even thought maybe it had replaced the chart and just not updated the song title (basically what you were suspecting) before I ever posted, so I loaded it up just to be 100% sure and it was the same old (still great!) single bass chart (that I love sooooo so much lol).

The place I found the RBA file also gave me all the individual pieces to play it in FoF. Theoretically would it make a difference if I took those pieces to “convert” it to a RB3con format, or should I just not waste my time?
