Although I filled out the survey, if there is no support for the stage kits I will not be buying. I don’t mind buying new instruments, but the stage kit is an essential piece to any rock band party.

I would expect the on-disc setlist to be somewhat bigger than RB3, etc since its only on XB1/PS4 which their discs have a LOT more space on them.

Okay, I gotta say – this is exciting! I’m very happy to hear that HMX is not just maintaining (most) of the current song library, but that purchased DLC will transfer to the (same) next-gen console. Most of all, I’m glad that this will “future-proof†the RB platform for a while longer, because, let’s face it, all of our last gen consoles are eventually going to give up the ghost.

What concerns me are the rumors of Guitar Hero making a simultaneous return and the possibility of the two companies getting into a renewed pissing match over artist exclusivity. Frankly, custom songs have leveled that playing field and, crazy as it sounds, I want to be able to move my customs to the next get too. My strategy with RB4 will be to wait and see which console has the holes in the OS to offer up that possibility. If it’s X-box One, then I will re-purchase all my DLC from Microsoft, but when push comes to shove, I don’t want to give up Led Zep, Eagles, Metallica, etc.

Awesome news but I really hope C3 continue with the customs scene. I’ve no issue plugging my last gen for customs and the added bonus of keys and pro support.

I doubt I’ll be getting the new one if I’ll have to use (and buy) a RB guitar. The GH ones are so much better.

Also, you know, having to buy an xbone. That too…

I kind of have mixed feelings about this. No keys and next gen only with no old instruments means I probably won’t get it.

Also: “Yes! Content purchased from the store or exported from a disc will transfer over to the new generation of consoles at not addition cost as we make that content available. “

I’m concerned about the “as we make that available” part. I bet that will end up meaning some songs (and maybe all RBN songs) take forever to come. And what about those ones whose license expired?

Purchased all my DLC on a PS3, switched to a 360 when I found this place rather than going through the trouble of jailbreaking my console, then sold my PS3 and bought a PS4. Really happy to hear about the DLC transferring though I will need to buy new peripherals for the PS4.

The elephant in the room is customs. I guess Dahnlee is right…all we can do is wait and see. I’ll probably just buy a PS4 guitar in the meantime so that I can enjoy RB4 until the dust settles.

Presumably HMX will resume regular DLC offerings which I imagine will (to my great dismay) impact C3 releases. FWIW, I doubt the return to “the core of RB1 and 2” will impact harmonies based on their latest DLC offerings. That would be a dealbreaker for me the same way I’m sure a lack of keys/pro guitar is for a lot of others.

I expect it will be like Dance Central, where they release so many ‘legacy’ songs at a time (as they are updated, tested, and pass through cert processes), and folks who owned them previously will get to download them again.

            IT’S HAPPENING

Releasing this year, though… I guess it’s time to double-down and ramp up RBHP production.

Looks like we have a lot of work to do! I don’t see RB4 coming out till October/November so we still have time to finish harmonies and pro drums before that date. <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_biggrin.gif” />

Well I was hoping to get a Wii U at some point this year because I figured that RB4, whenever it was released would be on there as well. I don’t see myself getting it exclusively based on the fact that it is only for XB1 and PS4, I have over 400 songs on my Wii excluding customs and all my instruments are for the Wii and I can’t spend 350 for a console plus however much the periphs are for the new game.

I don’t have a next-gen and I can’t get excited about a new setlist from Harmonix. The only thing I use my 360 for is playing RB – period. In order for me to play this “new” game (basically the same one I’m playing now, minus keys and pro-) I’ll need to buy a next-gen machine, the game itself and probably new peripherals. So after spending $500+ on top of the thousands already spent on this game, I get to play the songs I’ve already purchased (plus the new RB4 setlist!) but likely not customs.

I appreciate the fact that without Harmonix Rock Band wouldn’t exist, but I’m perfectly happy where I am. Happier than I’d be if I “lost” the 600 customs I currently have and couldn’t author my own songs. The only real positive aspect for me will be if the peripherals are backward-compatible so I can stop lurking on Craigslist for old plastic guitars. Harmonix, love them or hate them, is all about money. C3, love them or hate them, is all about producing large numbers of quality RB songs every week. I’d hate to lose the latter because the former decided it’s time to make more money off the masses. They wouldn’t be doing it if they didn’t think there was a buck to be made off it – they’re a business first.

I also wonder how much this and other RB communities (but mostly this one) influenced their decision. If there was no grass-roots effort keeping the franchise alive, would they have thought it worthwhile?

If there aren’t harmonies, I’m not making the jump.

No keys? Nice try attempting to spin a downgrade as a feature. I wasn’t expecting to play this anyways. Rockband 2.2 more like it. What’s even the point?

                    I’m with you on this.

I’ll likely buy a PS4 just for this, but with all the great C3 stuff, I know where I’ll keep going for serious RB action.

                    #439804

Like others are saying, the biggest disappointment is the lack of keys/pro-keys. Even in current DLC when they release it in batches at a time they won’t be including the keys charts/support for RB4. Super bummed about that. This, and the possible death of customs, are almost a deal breaker. So, based on the multiple articles I’ve read:

                    Pros:

                    -New Rock Band game!

-Harmonies are in, I read that in one of the articles

                    -They are keeping pro-drums

-New instruments with improved build quality if your old ones have broken. Hopefully they are widely available and don’t cost an arm and a leg.

-Legacy DLC will work with this game and be able to be downloaded for free

-They are in talks with Microsoft/Sony to sell an adapter you plug into your current gen console to make the old wireless protocols (from PS3 and 360) on your current wireless instruments work with the current gen consoles. A few articles said they are having “good/positive discussions with MS and Sony” and that they think they will be able to make this.

                    Cons:

-No cross platform DLC purchases will be free on current gen. Honestly, though, anyone who expected this (thankfully, not me as I’m not in this scenario) had unrealistic expectations.

-Currently RB3 on-disc songs won’t carry over/work on RB4 but the article said Harmonix could eventually come to an agreement with licenses and what not to make this work. Cross your fingers!

-No Beatles songs will carry over (duh)

-No Keys/Pro-Keys support even on legacy DLC ported over

-No Pro-Guitar/Bass support even on legacy DLC ported over

-Like someone else mentioned who knows how long it will take Harmonix to port over the existing DLC but it definitely won’t all come out at once. Hopefully it comes out in large batches though. But, long story short, you may be waiting quite a while (or never if they abandon this massive project eventually) for your favorite song to be on RB4. I read in one of the articles that they plan on having “hundreds” of songs available at launch.

-No more customs (hopefully this is not true but we will see)
