As you can maybe tell by the title, this topic is about song packs (or even single songs) that were speculated (by you or in general), hinted at, or even announced, but never made it to the store for download. I remember back to the time when everyone was excited for British Steel in its early reveal only to get the shitty live versions that we got… better than nothing I guess.

I just would like to mention the massive amount of hype I still find on the RB forums from back in the day about song packs that people thought could be coming… Metallica pack 2, The Power Rangers soundtrack pack (which Ron Wasserman said was likely to happen), a Weird Al pack, among others… a bunch of stuff that never made it to fruition for some reason or another. What songs/packs did you think were possible? Did you feel that there were hints towards some songs/packs that never made it (I.E. Metallica Pack 2)?

For the packs that were hinted at or announced, what did you have in mind pre-release for ones like British Steel, for example. I personally figured that they’d go for the studio versions for that if it happened… but they didn’t :raise:

The frustrating thing about the British Steel live pack is if you have no clue about how Halford sung the songs on that night, many parts will seem weird or off (although as a big Judas Priest fan I don’t have that issue).

Also Living After Midnight live isn’t very good

Yeah, the Live version of Living After Midnight is horrible. There really needs to be a custom of the studio version of the song done.

I was always really excited for the speculated RB Pearl Jam game. Course it never saw the light of day. I always REALLY wanted a radiohead pack, but it was never even mentioned.

Been listening to a lot of Japanese rock/metal recently, and this makes me all the more sad Rock Band Japan never happened. Hell, if the series were still going and RPJ had been made, a recently popular, kid-fronted metal band called “BABYMETAL” would make for some really great DLC.

BTW, if someone here knows Japanese and makes customs, I’d love to have some BABYMETAL songs, namely “Megitsune,” “Ijime,Dame,Zettai, ” “line!” and “Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!”

I remember I was excited for Supernaut. This pack was announced, but never released:

        Iron Maiden – Wrathchild

        Black Sabbath – Supernaut

        Metallica – Fuel

All covers if I recall correctly.

Agreed, that song never has been great live either, IMO. Even 1988, which is arguably their strongest live year overall, is weak for that song. I noticed ‘You Don’t Have To Be Old To Be Wise’ is really hard to sing for me. I’d have rather had the studio version, by far, and I’ve been listening to them since I was fourteen.

I’d have gone insane for Rock Band Japan, mainly because I have a good feeling that a Marty Friedman song would be in there.

To this day, having rumoured Fates Warning on RBN and not having delivered them at all makes me sad. Something needs to be done in the future: Perfect Symmetry, Parallels, Inside Out, so many great songs, such amazing players. Customs will actually need a second drums set though to experience the complete awesomeness of Mr. Zonder’s drumming.

The one that really brought the poop to my cheerios was the rumor that Painkiller was going to get an entire album release at some point. This should have happened, honestly. Even if there was a lot of Judas Priest in the store already, a good chunk of it was unsatisfactory (that little live pack was a frigging joke, the version of Eat Me Alive in there was, at best, a mess on all fronts). I didn’t even buy Prophecy, I didn’t really like the Nostradamus album at all, and honestly didn’t see why if they were going to release anything from the 00’s, why they would release something from that rather than Angel of Retribution, which was a great album.

The lack of Halford solo material really bummed me out too. Imagine these in game:

Would of been epic as hell!

I would have murdered for the Painkiller album. By the way, the DLC of “prophecy” was crap and I didn’t get it either. I am one of the 3 people on the planet who actually liked the “Nostradamus” album in all its pretentious beauty, but as most other live versions of Priest DLC it was just odd and no fun.

I don’t like Nostradamus as a whole, but I do like Prophecy a lot, so to me, that version we got is just downright awful. Thinking about it, there are a lot of upsetting releases on the store, but I feel that, of all of them, the Priest fans (other than SFV), were shit on with a lot of crappy excuses for content. Iron Maiden has a ton of studio stuff, why doesn’t Priest?

These live versions just don’t play well! Especially since I feel that most of the time studio tracks are far more appropriate for the level of technicality and detail in almost each and every Priest song. Sure there are exceptions, and most times Breaking the Law is one of them, but not here lol. The muddy sound of the British Steel Anniversary DLC is really a big issue for me. I didn’t love the way that the 30th anniversary show was mixed to start with, but it just honestly sounds straight up bad played with a 5.1 surround set up on Rock Band.

Another huge issue I had was that there were a few songs that had ever so slightly lowered tempos, which made it hard for me to play them, as I’m used to hearing it played just a little faster and as such I expect notes earlier and closer together (Rapid Fire is almost the exclusive offender in this case). By instinct, my brain tells my fingers that the next note coming up is already there and I screw up on parts that should be easy. I love the 30th anniversary DVD, and I like the CD, but as DLC it’s just really sub par, even to the level of shitty IMHO. Harmonix could have done a lot better for British Steel and the other songs.

Breaking the Law is the song on there that pissed me off the most though. There were a bunch of versions of Breaking the Law recorded live all the way from 1980 up through to 1992 that sounded a thousand times better than the one in game. Not to mention; ROB ACTUALLY FUCKING SINGS THE CHORUS 9/10 TIMES! Even the doctored version from ‘Priest… LIVE!’ would have been better. Thousands of people who know Breaking the Law bought that and Living After Midnight, and they’re two of the worst versions of those songs that Harmonix could have possibly ever chosen for Rock Band because of the lowered tuning and resulting muddy sound that the recordings had.

I was pissed when I got the pack and found that it sounded WORSE than the CD/DVD mixes of the Anniversary show.

My MP3 player used to have all of the RB DLC + rumoured tracks. I used to listen to it waiting for busses/drives, going for walks (a thing I used to do and should do again, nerf call centres), etc. It has gone a very long time without updating, but the following tracks were all rumoured by reasonably credible sources at some point in the franchise’s life pre-RB3.

Allman Brothers Band – Whipping Post

            Black Sabbath – Supernaut

            Flyleaf – All Around Me

            Flyleaf – Fully Alive

Grateful Dead – The Golden Road (To Unlimited Devotion)

            Green Day – Walking Contradiction

            Indochine – L’aventurier

            Interpol – Heinrich Maneuver

            Metallica – Fuel

            Metallica – King Nothing

            The Haunted – Shadow World

The Mooney Suzuki – Alive and Amplified

The Pixies – Where Is My Mind

The Rolling Stones – Brown Sugar

            The Rolling Stones – Satisfaction

            Third Eye Blind – Graduate

Third Eye Blind – Losing A Whole Year

Third Eye Blind – Motorcycle Drive By

Turbonegro – Do You Do You Dig Destruction

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Gold Lion

I have a bunch of other files in this folder with early ‘leak’ dates that eventually came out as RB3 DLC.

Gold Lion needs a custom lol, I love that song. Only song I really like by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, actually.
