Alright, so I’m back and starting to fix up some customs I’ve released, now with a fresh set of eyes and no stress ha. I’m looking to bring something back up, and for the life of me, I cannot calculate what damn grid measurement I need in this one measure to get the notes to line up.

Now, due to the speed and nature of this, I honestly could likely just drop manual notes without a grid and it wouldn’t look too* bad… but my ocd wants this right.

The song is technically in 4/4… but it’s not played like that during this section. It’s played in a “three-over-two” so that a bar of four has the same duration as a bar of six. It’s triplets, but they become the eighth-note pulse like in bars of 6. Confusing, yes. Part in question is here:

It’s the part under the small solo marker.

You have to think of this in terms of 8ths. If I dropped a note in the missing spot, it would have the feel of 8ths even though it’s not time signature wise. Very hard to explain, but it’s right.

I need to have a “triplet” in that spot (more so, it’s a paradiddle there). So right now the song is in 4/4, but I’m viewing on a grid of 1/8T or 1/16T to line things up. The hell would I do to make it so I can place triples in that open spot (I need to evenly placed notes between them). Technically I’d need 1/16TT or something ha…. so yeah. if anyone has an answer of how I could manipulate this all. If I need to change the time signature for a measure to fudge everything and then switch it back I can. Just curious.

Well…. apparently I had the same issue later in the song and I got it right there? No idea what the hell I did, but I could just copy from that section and I’m all set now. Still going to bother me, but eh.

Definitely do not change the time signature for one measure just to fill in odd rhythms. A 1/16 triplet note is equivalent to a 1/24 note. So a 1/16th triplet-triplet note is equivalent to a 1/24 triplet note. You can type in “1/24” manually where it says 1/16.

That sounds familiar. Maybe that’s what I did before. I completely forgot you could overwrite with a manual entry. Thanks.

Also, by the time signature change, I more so meant just temporarily while editing to make the preset options allign differently (if that makes sense). I wasn’t actually going to keep the signature change in game ha

I’m not sure exactly what you’re asking, but here’s a handy trick that solves any issues of note timings.

Lay out the correct number of notes you need, regardless of where you need them. Just make sure it’s the right pattern and all of the notes are directly back-to-back. Then highlight them all (right click+drag or ctrl+click). Hold down alt, and click the right (or left) edge of the notes, and drag it to wherever you want the pattern of notes to end. Boom. Highly customizable note quantizations.

The only problem here is that often they can’t be snapped to any of the grid options, especially the weirder ones you get this way. Be wary of that when you’re copy/pasting and using the quantize command.

Thanks so much for that tip, I was really struggling to chart an 8th note triplet! <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
