Can anyone walking me through the process of making customs. Reaper is very confusing.

I’m trying to figure it out myself. Maybe someone will put out a new tutorial.

What’s wrong with the existing tutorials?

People are willing to help if you have specific questions, but admittedly there isn’t a lot of hand-holding that goes on here. Dig into the available materials, don’t be afraid to get your feet wet and your hands dirty, and then as you come upon roadblocks, ask questions about those specific roadblocks and give details about how you got to that point.

In other words, do your homework. <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />

I think the only downside of our documentation is that it’s not clear to a newcomer what they really need.

        Check out the sticky thread:

        http://customscreators.com/index.php?/topic/8997-list-of-all-authoring-stuff-reaper-magma-tutorials-etc/page-1

What I REALLY needed from the huge list in that thread BEFORE starting to author is only Farottone’s tutorial and pksage’s video stream (2 hours, entirely done in Reaper).

        Then get started.

Once you begin charting a specific instrument, read along the relevant page in RBN wiki documentation.

Make sure you get the C3 Custom RB3 template. Then load that from the File > Project Templates

Get song stems from ezstems.com to help chart by ear or isolate vocals for ReaTune.

Always do a google search of your song to see if someone made a MIDI of it “(song name) midi”

that could help eliminate tempo mapping and you can copy and paste a lot of sections and narrow them down to five wide on guitar/bass.

If no pre-made midi, look on Songsterr.com or search for sheet music to use as a guide for notes.

After that, just read the authoring docs on how to set everything up and chart each instrument http://docs.c3universe.com/rbndocs/index.php?title=Main_Page

That should be the basics for Reaper.

There’s a lot of great information on this thread so thank you all. I found almost everything i need while doing my homework. I recreated someone else’s song just for practice sake, and that person did not include the PRO-GUITAR part as most do not, so next i wanted to author a PRO-GUITAR midi track.

But how do I do that in addition to the 5 lane regular guitar part, so that the user maintains the option whether or not they want to be in PRO GUITAR mode or basic GUITAR mode. Does magma organize both separate midi files into the con file, one midi file for PRO GUITAR and one for GUITAR ? It looks like only one file can be used for guitar. I see the checkbox for the pro instruments, but I’d figure there would have to be another section in the game data section specifically for the pro-guitar midi file to be uploaded onto. I have searched high and low on the tutorials.

Also, can a “non-PRO” authored midi track be easily edited to become PRO without starting from scratch simply by changing the velocities and adding in channels 97-102 (as well as higher channels for HOPO …etc), If the midi file contains the values used for the PRO feature, does it automatically qualify as a PRO instrument Track? Of does it need some other special configuration?

            Thanks!

Hey there! This is Matt. I’d like to start making some custom songs and, though I’m quite familiar with Reaper, I don’t really know where to put my DIY stems on the C3 Custom RB3 Template :c.

Hello, Matt! Start with the link Shroud provided in a post above yours. That will get you all the tools you need, as well as some tutorials on how to use those tools. People around here value those who are willing to do a little homework when getting started, but if you get stuck, feel free to ask questions. Good luck!

The template has a row for a single audio track, but there is no limit to adding more… I also use DIY stems, and I just add them below everything else. The track order in Reaper doesn’t matter.
