Did anyone else feel really cool playing Guitar Hero 1 & 2 & even Rocks the 80s back in the 2000s not realizing that every song or a majority were cover songs then later finding out & then realizing that most of the covers werent that good then you feel stupid because its obvious now that theyre cover songs? Thats honestly me several years ago & I hated that feeling haha. Its like wow, really? I was playing along to covers not even the real songs? haha. I mean granted they did some covers better than others but it just baffles me that I didnt really notice it.

I didn’t realize until hoping back into the older GH games that most songs were covers at all, I was pretty surprised. But I was a kid when I started playing them so it would make sense. I still think most songs hold up pretty good to their original!

Absolutely! Ive heard some of them again more than a few times recently & its just, certain songs sound much better than others. It all depends, some songs sound better with vocals, some sound better instrumentally.

Yeah I was surprised as well. I was pretty young when GH/GH2 came out so they introduced me and made me fall in love with rock & roll.

GH and the RB franchise really widened my music tastes and helped me discover a ton of bands and songs that I absolutely can’t imagine not have knowing about now. <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_cheeky.001.gif” />

Back when I was younger I had no idea Ziggy Stardust was a cover and always thought the added guitar solo for the game was so cool and it made me love the song. Well come to find out it sounds way different lol.

But now I love Bowie (took several years later to realize this though), and can’t really stand the Ziggy Stardust cover.

Thats me with most of the covers on GH2. GH1 wasnt that bad honestly but not that good. Passable especially if we had no idea lol but still, Id much rather them remake GH1 & GH2 with original versions.

I knew those were covers from the moment I accessed the Guitar Hero site for the first time, because I ran to find anything about it after I read a review on EGM and they said it there. That, and I would look up the song list and listen to the originals before getting into the games, so I could tell when I was playing.

But I never really hated that (the only thing I really found annoying was the “I’m flying” bit at the beginning of Who Was in My Room…, although in the original I didn’t like it either; but hey, it’s the Butthole Surfers, what can you do?); what mattered to me was having fun with those songs (I would showboat a lot xP), and in fact, lately I’ve felt it was more organic to play the covers than the masters, even if the covers weren’t as good, after all you’re playing as the fictional guitarist of a fictional basement-to-concert hall band, not as the people who recorded the song in the first place.
