So with this being the week of Valentine’s Day, I thought it might be a nice feature to have a “Hug an Author” post!

The customs authors are a fabulous collection of folks who spend hours upon hours of their unpaid free time to bring us great content for nothing but the satisfaction of contributing to the community (and getting their favorite songs in the game, I suppose). I know that if (when?) I were investing so much into this, it would mean a lot to know it was appreciated.

Is there a pack that thrilled you beyond any other? A favorite band that you never thought would make it in to the game? A custom that you keep playing over and over? An amazing song that you had never previously heard and were introduced through a custom?

Why not take a moment to look up the author and write ’em a quick note of gratitude?

Here are a few that I’m especially grateful for:

pksage, for introducing me to one of my new favorite songs, Mother Mother’s “the Stand.” And for being so entertaining in the blog posts. Also for, you know, maintaining the freaking’ website. Oh, and for the “Let’s Author!” video. It hasn’t quite stuck for me yet, but I haven’t given up.

Nyxyxylth, for bringing awesome classic rock (like Stealers Wheel) and great oldies (like Del Shannon!).

DVDSmith and drummerrockband for fulfilling one of my biggest requests, the Proclaimers – “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)”! Also, drummerrockband for Reel Big Fish and DVDSmith for Simple Minds.

EvilCornbread, for bringing Rock Band its first the National song and its second the Cure song.

Farottone, for reminding me what a cool song”Spooky” is, for releasing a great mix of classic rock, metal, progressive, and female vocal pop, and for being prolific as hell.

TrojanNemo, for bringing my daughter some Taylor Swift. And for all his work with the customs tools.

Ollie, for that insane 7-pack of U2. Sure hope someone feels like kicking in another one of those! Also, for the only custom Arcade Fire track that I know of.

BearzUnlimited, for some great alternative tracks including Queens of the Stone Age and Radiohead.

Clintilona, for the epic classic rock song “I’m Your Captain /Closer to Home.”

      NightmareLyre for Semisonic.

Espher, for the Harmonies project and the hints threads.

Also, thanks to the non-C3 authors who have put out a ton of great stuff, especially the super-prolific ones like MrMet2087, thespike, funkydunkleman, and EdTanguy

Really, thanks to EVERYONE who has ever authored and shared with the community, including those I didn’t name. I know it’s a huge amount of work, so I want to make sure that you know how much it is appreciated.

        This is extremely nice.

Let ME then hug a couple of people who are very much present behind the scenes and do a ton of work:

Gigakoops, whose enthusiasm and output is awesome: he’s done a lot of cool songs and taken one for the team in more than one occasion.

addymilldike, who is always on our authors’ chat to give suggestions, help out and contribute, and who would have done like 10 more songs if I hadn’t talked him into doing an brutal track you will see in the future.

Hell I’d like to hug the whole lot of you. Thank you guys so much for all you do. And to go one step further I’d like to thank all those who don’t author, but help in any way they can to make this cool stuff live on. Playtesters, forum posters and others who help, here’s to you as well. A big fat thank you to the whole community. A truly special shout out to authors that help others learn the craft. You guys are helping create a future. Thanks everyone.

I must also hug pksage for that authoring video that kinda started me off, i’ve written and made my own music and done GHTunes for a while, and i would jot down made up charts in the back of my math book at school so i was already creatively there.. but i was at that live stream which really gave me a kick, simple things like tempo mapping and copy/paste bewildered me.. so *hugs*

Though I could list the lot of you, I’ll pick out the most significant people to me to give hugs to. :swoon:

First of all, pksage. Your video got me started. I had downloaded reaper a few months before, and I spent about two hours trying to figure things out before giving up. Your video finally got me to try again. It’s like that fish saying, but with RB tracks. Make people a track, they’ll be happy for a week. Teach people how to make a track, they’ll make people happy forever. Please tell me that makes sense.

Second of all, the hall of fame charter, Farottone. It was your AC/DC track that finally made me hop onto the custom train. That, coupled with the other 1.2 million songs you’ve done, make you the coolest guy around. I couldn’t thank you enough for the contributions you’ve made to this place, and to my library.

And speaking of charting a lot, MrMet2087 deserves a ton of recognition. You can chart vocals like it’s nobody’s business. That James Bond pack that came out at Christmastime was epic. That, coupled with your GH converts and your dozens of video game songs make you pretty damn awesome, and definitely the most hardworking non-C3 guy here.

Also, I have to give a major thanks to oscarj08 for showing me your database for AC/DC midis. It makes authoring their songs much easier and really increases the frequency of how often I can release them. Thanks for being so supportive in offering them for my use.

And finally I want to thank some of my supporters that often show up in my customs thread. That includes the likes of Hetz, johnlennon007, questionmark, Sid Kafizz, Sideshow, Mycool, Nunchuck, and EdTanguy. Your comments and feedback are always much appreciated and help keep me going.

I Really want to thanks EvilCornbread For The National Song!

And thanks to every Author: Farottone, pksage, Nyxyxylth, DVDSmith, drummerrockband, TrojanNemo,Ollie and every one else that i forget. thanks you for all the Drums charts!!!

Nyxyxylth was essential in helping me figure out tempo mapping and vocals with his video on vocal authoring, and it was all downhill from there. But of course in general id like to hug everyone here who does anything. Because regardless if weather or not you do a full custom with venue and E-X charts and all the bells and whistles, or if you do a guitar only, expert only track with no overdrives, your work is highly appreciated. Because let’s not forget before we bash someone’s work, that this is a hobby, and we don’t get paid for this. We do this out of all our common love of Music, Rock Band, and this great community. Thanks everyone.

Word for word. Great community here.

I’m just going to have to hug everyone involved. Every week is exciting and though I don’t always know every song when posted I do have a blast playing every one of them you guys put out! Finding new great music is always fun. Thank you so much for continuing to do this.

Extra hugs to TrojanNemo and Nightmare Lyra for pumping out both Johnny Cash and NIN versions of Hurt the same week I requested Johnny Cash’s version. That blew me away!

Every damned one of you is awesome. It’s great to still have a source of quality new tracks for my favorite game in the whole wide world.

                  I’m not a hugger, though.

Late hug to all of you guys! Love all of you! You’re some of the greatest, hardest working and most dedicated people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting, and I’m honored to have had the chance to learn and take any advice from any of you! Thanks to all of those who have very kindly and patiently supported me in my endeavors in the past as well, it really means a lot to me
