April 7, 2014 at 5:18 pm #417202Van Halen – Ain’t Talkin’ ’bout Love and John Mellencamp – Hurts So Good songs hangs my ps3 as soon I get on to it in the song library.
There are several songs that I have found that will not work for PS3…
“Hurts So Good
After Forver
Ain’t Talkin’ ’bout Love”
and “Fiction & Buried Alive” from forums… All lock up in the song library.
As well as…
“Hold My Hand”
and “Children Grave” give “unable to play” error after selecting instrument difficulties.
I can confirm a system freeze on following songs at my PS3:
– “Ain’t talkin’ bout love”
– “After forever”
– “Hurts so good”
And it looks like “Love Song (Karaoke Version)” from Tesla is changed with the song from The Cure for some reasons.
April 7, 2014 at 5:28 pm #417203You guys need to start looking for patterns. And not in the source of the file. That makes no difference.
One thing that could be, since it seems to be mainly a problem with multitracks…are the files all above a certain size? If so, are there any songs above that file size that do work?
Also, how many channels? Maybe PS3 doesn’t like a specific combination of audio channels that works fine on the Xbox. Most of those are recompiled with less channels on the Wii for example.
For the songs that don’t even load preview in setlist…look at the songs.dta…do they have anything unusual in common?
In other words…the reporting needs to be more about troubleshooting if you hope to see a solution.
April 7, 2014 at 6:05 pm #417205Alright, here we go, I did some of the leg work for you.
I went through the thread, and these are the 10 C3 songs reported by PS3 users as not working for one reason or another. Any others, bring them up so we can add to the list. Please do not mention non-C3 songs as we are not wasting our time with those.
All Time Low - Umbrella
Black Sabbath - After Forever *
Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run *
Gotye - Somebody That I Used to Know (ft. Kimbra) *
Hootie & the Blowfish - Hold My Hand
John Mellencamp - Hurts So Good *
Linkin Park - Burning in the Skies *
Maroon 5 - Harder to Breathe *
Maroon 5 - She Will Be Loved *
Mötley Crüe -Too Young to Fall in Love *
OK Go - Get Over It *
One Republic - All the Right Moves *
The Rocky Horror Picture Show - Hot Patootie - Bless My Soul *
Van Halen - Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love *
* - multitrack
METADATA
I checked the songs.dta for each of those. There is nothing wrong as far as we understand the requirements of the PS3. All file names are lower case, all directories are named as the dta expects them, all necessary files are present, and there’s no apparent pattern from song to song.
ALBUM ART
I also checked the album art for all 10 of them. Visualizer shows them fine, so presumably nothing wrong with them.
AUDIO
I threw the audio from all 10 songs into Audacity, and the audio in the files in the DB is fine. There is also no apparent pattern, since the audio files go from about 4MB to 50MB, with a variety of channels, multitrack and single mp3 backing. All 10 songs seem to be properly encrypted as the PS3 expects them.
So, what have we learned? Based on the above, I would say the problem is in either:
1) the MIDI to EDAT encryption process, which I have no way of verifying
2) the MILO files not being to the liking of the PS3, even though all other ones seem to be
3) some limitation of the PS3 we are not aware of and will have to figure out
Now your turn.
April 8, 2014 at 7:35 am #417242Is there an easy way to transfer the GH-multitrack songs mentioned above into single track songs? That should reduce the file size and probably RockBand can handle the single tracks easier.
Just an attempt…

I know that for example song “Nothing Else Matters” “One” “Unforgiven” or all other songs from Metallica I’ve downloaded works fine as well as many other multichannel songs.
I don’t know much about making customs and the whole structure how to make one song to work, but I guess .mogg song files are encrypted, and I can’t just open them in audacity and remove some of channels and test them. I would like to know if it’s possible to compile one of song that’s not working without some channels like guitar and bass to maybe try to isolate problem if it’s in specific channel? Cause I know that when I played She Will be loved only with microphone it went all the way to the end even tho there where some “weird” noises in the song, but not even close to the one I had in my video, and I also know that when I played solo guitar it froze my ps3, didn’t try solo drums or solo bass. It’s just an idea, but If it’s too much work or you think that problem got nothing to do with particular channel don’t have to bother. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />

Maybe for testing purpose it would be good to try it out. I prefer playing multichannel songs, and I downloaded a lot of full multitrack songs that are working fine.
April 8, 2014 at 2:37 pm #417258So I do all that testing and tell you what it probably is and isn’t and you guys just ignore it and go back to the audio as the problem? Good stuff.
There is no easy way to render the audio into a single file. And the audio has to be encrypted for the ps3, but even if it wasn’t you can’t just remove a channel and throw it back in the game. That definitely won’t work as then the mogg header is broken.
But then again…I already said what I thought the problem was. I’m done troubleshooting a system I don’t have. When someone figures out the problem I’ll see if I can help with a solution. Until then, I’m done.

Good stuff.Hey, I thank you for your testing but I don’t know much about the technic behind the encryption of the songs. But I guess you do. So I only wanted to try something (single track) you cannot do and give a feedback, cause you don’t have a PS3, right?
If it’s to difficult or impossible to switch from multi to single it’s fine but please don’t blame us for something we do not know.
April 8, 2014 at 3:58 pm #417268I can confirm “OK Go – Get over it” and Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to run” does not work. If you choose the song it leads to a freeze of the PS3 system.
Bruce Springsteen – Born to Run works fine to me

Thanks for trying to help ps3 users, and your help is much appreciated. I’m also willing to do any testing on my ps3.
April 8, 2014 at 5:08 pm #417279I’ve done some testing and i think the problem is somehow with .mogg file. Didn’t have much time to do some more testing, but the thing i did is that i copied .mogg file from song that is working originally “burn to run” into beatles song yellow submarine and it played fine, then i copied .mogg file from song “hurts so good” and it froze on the menu same as it’s doing when it’s in original folder. Don’t know for other songs i just tested that one, will do some more testing when I get home from work with some other .mogg files to see if they do the same and post the results. If it does, then at least we can maybe eliminate all other files from the song folder.
April 9, 2014 at 2:58 pm #417356Update:
I’ve tested songs below with the above method so here’s results:
One Republic – All the right moves (original problem – unable to load song skipping) – song plays fine in preview, loads fine as “yellow submarine”, plays all the way to the end as vocal (no fail mode on), also plays fine as guitar. – .mogg file is working and problem is in alltherightmoves.mid.edat file
Linkin Park – Burning in the sky (original problem – sounds corrupted in one part of song and ps3 hangs)- song plays fine in preview, loads fine as “yellow submarine”, at the half of song there’s corrupted sound and loops – problem could be inside .mogg file or maybe in conversion process
Van Halen – Ain’t Talkin’ ’bout Love (original problem – song stucks in preview) – The same problem happened when I came to “Yellow Submarine” so problem could be inside .mogg file or maybe in conversion process
Maroon 5 – She Will Be Loved (original problem – sounds corrupted)- song plays fine in preview, loads fine as “yellow submarine”, in the middle of the song there’s corrupted sound and loops – problem could be inside .mogg file or maybe in conversion process
All Time Low – Umbrella (original problem – unable to load song skipping) – song plays fine in preview, loads fine as “yellow submarine”, plays all the way to the end as vocal (no fail mode on). – .mogg file is working, problem is inside umbrellacrunk.mid.edat file
OK Go – Get Over It (original problem – song stucks in preview) – The same problem happened when I tryed to play it as “Yellow Submarine” – problem could be inside .mogg file or conversion process
April 9, 2014 at 3:05 pm #417359Hmmm. Sounds a lot like my problem with the midi to edat encryption process as I said.
April 9, 2014 at 3:19 pm #417362Yeah, now, I’m trying to see in which file is problem in those 2 other songs. I copied All time Low – Umbrella
Copied umbrellacrunk.milo_ps3 – plays fine
Copied umbrellacrunk_keep.png_ps3 – plays fine
Copied umbrellacrunk.mid.edat – unable to load song skipping
Sorry my bad at first I didn’t copy umbrellacrunk.mid.edat file I played with original “yellow submarine one” ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
Problem with “All the right moves” song is same when I copied alltherightmoves.mid.edat I got unable to load song skipping.
April 11, 2014 at 2:12 pm #417586The Rocky Horror Picture Show – Hot Patootie – Bless My Show – Song have same problem as some others I mentioned (gets stuck in middle of song with corrupted sounds and ps3 hangs).
Maroon 5 – Harder to breathe – PS3 Hangs in the song preview list
Somebody That I Used to Know (ft. Kimbra) – PS3 Hangs in the song preview list
Mötley Crüe -Too Young to Fall in Love – Unable to load song skipping
I’ve also discovered that PS3 is actually saving all of your song progress, but for some reason it shows only around 15 random song progress each time you enter rock band. They are all saved somewhere maybe in “save.dat” file from the game, but when you enter game it shows your progress you made before, but always in around 15 songs.
