Well, good work Blackened! That will be the first step into harmonies for PS3!
I tried to recreate what you did using the song Buddy Holly and can confirm harmonies on vocals work!
Unfortunately it doesn’t work on ProGuitar. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_frown.gif” />
Don’t know what I did wrong but the system hangs (no skipping song issue, just system freezes with black screen) after I started the song with ProGuitar.
So this is what I did.
I followed your instructions until “Launch the game and enjoy” but just with the song Buddy Holly instead of the additional three songs.
So my upgrades.dta looks like this:
(buddyholly
(upgrade_version 1)
(midi_file "songs_upgrades/buddyholly_plus.mid")
(song_id 1005026)
(rank
(real_guitar 1)
(real_bass 1)
)
(real_guitar_tuning (0 0 0 0 0 0))
(real_bass_tuning (0 0 0 0))
)After that I spotted out the right folder for Buddy Holly:
/dev_hdd0/game/BLUS30050/USRDIR/CCF0023/songs
The original songs.dta was replaced by the one that came with the harmony package:
; RBDLC07 - 1005026 - Weezer - Buddy Holly

)After starting the game and song the system hung up like I described above.
I recognized that the content from the upgrades.dta delivered by the harmony package differs to the one that Blackened posted:
(buddyholly
(upgrade_version 1)
(midi_file "songs_upgrades/buddyholly_plus.mid")
(song_id 1005026)
)So I tried this one.
After starting the game I could use harmonies on vocals without any problem but there was no option to choose a ProGuitar at all.
Can anybody see what went wrong?
I’m saying when you use the tool I built you get a merged songs.dta and upgrades.dta file in the folder in which you have installed it. Might be a time saver vs. manually merging, especially if you can then automate replacement.
To create a upgrades.dta that will grow each time you add a new song and replace the old upgrades.dta would be nice and should work if you ask me. But why you want to merge a songs.dta as you have to replace every songs.dta on each songs folder?
If I understand it right the system requires a modification of every songs.dta we have to spot out.
And that’s the problem with automating the progress, I guess.
EDIT:
I tried another song: Foreplay/Longtime by Boston
This one got keys and pro keys in addition to harmony vocals.
And what shall I say – keys and harmonies work on that song!

(real_bass_tuning (0 0 0 0))otherwise the game won’t know to activate pro guit-bass
and as for your first try, I’m guessing the game let you pick pro g/b because you had those line, but since you used the harmony *.mid, then there was no pro g/b chart to load, and the game hang.
I haven’t tried multiple upgrade on the same songs, but if there is no master files with all the upgrades into one .mid, then you will have to create it yourself using reaper. But a post in the RB:HP thread hints that pro g/b mid have harmonies and keyboard (if available) in them, so I’d try that first, using the pro-g/b *_plus.mid.

Yeah you’re right I tried the wrong *.mid file!

November 7, 2014 at 11:36 pm #432442re: merged songs.dta, I was just saying the app creates both. Only the upgrades.dta is likely useable for now.
November 9, 2014 at 3:17 pm #432533Weird Al’s – Hardware Store,
Daft Punk – One More Time,
King Crimson – Epitaph (1x version, didn’t try the 2x version),
Led Zep – Kashmir, Stairway to Heaven
Metallica- Dyers EveMetallica – That was just your life
I just converted and linked the songs mentioned above.
There was a problem with encrypting the midi file of “One More Time” when I converted it with the C3 tool but I used my version of “One More Time” that works for sure. I think I once encrypted it manually because I used to have problems with doing it with C3 tools as well.
If there’s anybody who could test the songs for me it would be nice cause I don’t have time to do right now.
Sorry took me so long,
Dyer’s Eve works properly now (assuming this was just a regular decrypt and encrypt mid fix)
“That was just your life” still fails, this is not a simple fix I’m afraid, the song doesn’t “skip song” it loads the song (showing roadies getting the stage prepped) but then hangs on a black screen. The song preview loads properly so guessing the mogg isn’t the culprit but I could be wrong. I even set the audio preview to the full song in the dta to see if the full song played, and it did no problem.
I’m guessing the mid file has a problem not encryption related. I’m wondering if the song actually works on xbox360.
November 9, 2014 at 10:53 pm #432574Just confirming the ps3 has the same limit of 2952 songs available at one time (game says 3000 on its error message).

You’re not allowed to put more than 2952 songs in RB3 or just in the Free Songs folder?

You can put how many songs you want, the game will only load that amount, that’s a system related issue, not customs related.
November 10, 2014 at 10:18 am #432599And do you know what happens with the rest of the songs above 2952?
Is it not playable or will it load after reaching the end of the list?

They just won’t be loaded and you won’t see them in the songs selection list. That happens why any system.
November 10, 2014 at 9:56 pm #432635I’m thinking of a workaround other then having to exit the game completely and swapping songs.dta.
Songs load from the song.dta file, and if I remember correctly, when you enter the Rock Band Store and exit, song list reload. If there was a way to swap between 2 songs.dta in our custom folder with the press of a button combination (or any other way, sending a command via the network to an apps that run in the background etc…), then entering/exiting the store would swap between our 2 songs.dta, giving us access to the other part of our songs without having to fully exit the game.
Keeping in mind that on ps3, you have to have CFW to play customs, so this isn’t all that far fetched.
Also, I’m thinking of decrypting all my official dlc and re-encrypting it to custom to make them all fit into 1 songs.dta to make the loading process that much faster. I’m pretty sure loading 1 songs.dta containing 2952 song is much much faster then loading 1000+ dlc folder containing 1 to 3 songs each. But that would be such a long process (days of works getting the KLicense info to decrypt it)
Combining the 2 above, would make a decent workaround to the song limit by giving us the ability to swap between 2 songs.dta without closing the game, and , possibly, much faster loading of said songs.dta
I’m just brainstorming randomly here, sorry. When I hit the 2952 songs limit, my hope of one giant Rock Band game with almost all the song available in it were crushed!
November 12, 2014 at 1:19 pm #432718First of all I would like to concentrate on getting the song packs RB1, RB2, RBL and RBGD with harmonies.
After that we could determine how we get harmonies for all the other DLC songs.
That would be the best way, cause I think there should be a static folder structure for the song packs from the game discs.
I recommend to create a songs pack for every game disc songs that has to be updated if there would change anything. So we could guarantee to take the same *_plus.mid.edat files and the same upgrades.dta file.
Let’s start with RB1 that should be the easiest of all, because it has a clean structure with one songs.dta in each song folder.
I took the best package available for each song.
That means I choosed keys and pro guitar files in the optional upgrades folder if available.
If not I took the files out the basic folder.
Next I converted all *_plus.mid files to *_plus.mid.edat and merged the content from each upgrades.dta to one big upgrades.dta.
Then I transferred the files to the folder /dev_hdd0/game/BLUS30463/USRDIR/HMX0756/songs_upgrades that has to be created if not done already.
After it I choosed the RB1 songs folder /dev_hdd0/game/BLUS30050/USRDIR and saved the songs.dta file from each song folder if anything goes wrong. For that I created a folder called original on my computer in each songs folder.
When this was done I overwrote every songs.dta with the ones from the harmonies project folder.
I haven’t tried yet but this should give harmonies, keys and pro guitar (on selected songs) to all RB1 songs.
To automate this procedure we first have to find out if the folder structure is the same one on every PS3.
Is it possible to get ftp access out of C3 tools? If so, we could push the needed files from our computer to the PS3 in just seconds.
November 12, 2014 at 10:17 pm #432730To Blackened and Hamburgerjung – I want to throw out a huge “Thank You” for the in-roads you guys have made with harmony upgrades!!!
That said, I’m hoping you guys will help me over the rough spots as I’m getting started with this ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_biggrin.gif” />
I’m trying to upgrade for the RBN Pro Drum fix on Creed’s “Higher”. I followed the steps you guys laid out (creating the songs_upgrades subfolder, encrypting the mid.edat file, substituting the songs file in the Creed folder, etc.) Problem is, the song listing shows up but is grayed-out in the index. If I click on it, the PS3 freezes. I tried a little troubleshooting and restored the Higher songs DTA file back to the original (but left the songs_upgrades folder intact). That un-grayed the listing, but now I get the “skipping song” message. The mystifying thing is, the two DTA files appear to be exactly the same
Have either of you tried this process with a RBN file?
Any other thought???
Thanks!
November 12, 2014 at 10:26 pm #432732Is it possible to get ftp access out of C3 tools?I got no idea how to implement FTP connectivity, and much less with the PS3. Sorry!

In which folder did you put the songs_upgrades subfolder? I highly suggest putting it in the same “HMX0756” as custom songs, because that make the encrypting requiring the same kLicense/rap/contentid as regular custom.
Also, keep in mind that encrypting *_plus.edat will most likely suffer the same problem as some custom song, namely, some file will fail unless encrypted using method 2 with a higher delay, and even then, I am unsure the “encrypt replacement midi” uses method 2, so you might have to do it manually using true ancestor.
I will try “Higher” right now, see if I get it to work myself.
Edit 1: Just following the Pro bass/guit crappy “tutorial” I wrote above (aka not changing the songs.dta) make the song show regularly for me with pro drum activated, but fail to load. I will try encrypting it with method #2 see if that fixes it. I think the only time replacing songs.dta is needed is when you have Harmonies and/or keyboard added (and obviously the song info fixes).
Edit 2: Manually encrypting it didn’t work either. I’m not too sure what is going on. I’m a bit short on time, did you get any other RBN pro-drum upgrade to work, or this was the first one you tried? By the way, to get the song back to working, you will have to delete the part about “Higher” in the upgrades.dta so the game stops trying to load the “faulty” _plus.mid.edat.
