BELOW IS THE ORIGINAL POST BUT IT IS OR MAY BE OUTDATED AND NOT THE OPTIMAL WAY. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
The time has finally come: Rock Band 3 custom songs on the PlayStation 3! Before we begin, I must point out:
YOU MUST HAVE A CUSTOM FIRMWARE (JAILBROKEN) PS3!
This is due to the fact that there is currently no way of accessing the internal PS3 file system without a jailbreak, thus no way of adding custom content. Sorry folks, them’s the breaks!
If you’ve installed a custom BEFORE MARCH 3RD, re-download and re-install, and the song will have pausing/practice mode! Alternatively, you can download the CON file and run it through the PS3 Converter.
I’m not going to cover how to jailbreak your PS3, but here’s a good place to start. Firmwares: Any should work fine! If you are using the PAL section below, you will need to be on a 4.21 CFW.
Files Needed
C3 CON Tools
Multiman
FileZilla or an FTP client of your choice. Here’s a tutorial on how to setup FTP on your PS3.
Rock Band Free Pack 1 (Required for Initial Setup: Option 1, otherwise optional) – The 9 bonus songs that were left off the RB2 export.
PSNpatch (Required for Initial Setup: Option 2, otherwise optional) – Highly recommended if you plan on going on the PSN/RB Store. Used to install RAP files as well. Here’s a tutorialBefore we start, there are two options you can choose from. Option 1 is that you already have the Rock Band Free Pack 1 installed. If you do not have it and are afraid to go online to download it, choose Option 2.
Initial Setup: Option 1
You have the Free Pack installed. This method is faster!
First step is to install and run Multiman on your PS3, and then open up FileZilla and FTP into your PS3. Download the songs.dta file found under the “/dev_hdd0/game/BLUS30463/USRDIR/HMX0756/songs/” folder on your PS3 and place it in the “Merged Songs” folder. This can be found in the /ps3 folder in the program’s directory. If there is no /ps3 folder, run PS3 Converter in C3 Con Tools once, and the folder and subfolders will be created for you.
Let’s start by running C3 Con Tools and selecting PS3 Converter. From here in the tutorial, you have a few options. If you have a PS3 converted custom, see “Merging already converted songs”. If you have a custom that is in the Xbox 360 CON format, see “Converting Xbox 360 song”.
Initial Setup: Option 2
You DO NOT have the Free Pack installed. This method takes a bit longer…but you don’t have to risk going online and getting banned.
First step is to install and run Multiman on your PS3, and then open up FileZilla and FTP into your PS3. Navigate to “/dev_hdd0/game/BLUS30463/USRDIR” folder on your PS3, and create a new folder called “HMX0756”. Inside that folder, make another folder called “songs”. Close Multiman and your FTP.
On your computer grab a USB stick and create a folder called “exdata” on the root of your USB (the first or top-most folder). In the /bin folder of C3 Con Tools, you will find a file called “ps3.rap”. Copy that to the “exdata” folder you created on your USB stick, and rename the file to “UP8802-BLUS30463_00-RBHMXBANDCCFF0D6.rap”. Next, install PSNpatch on your PS3. Once installed, plug your USB stick into the left most port on your PS3, run the program, and press L1. This should install the rap file.
Back on your computer, navigate to the “Merged Songs” folder. This can be found in the /ps3 folder in the program’s directory. If there is no /ps3 folder, run PS3 Converter in C3 Con Tools once, and the folder and subfolders will be created for you. Create a blank text file, and rename it to “songs.dta”.
Converting Xbox 360 songs
When opening the PS3 Converter, this is the first option you get. Place all the CON/LIVE files in one folder, and either navigate to the folder by clicking on “Change Input Folder”, or drag one of those files here. For your convenience there is a “CONs” folder under /ps3, so you can put them there if you like, but YOU DON’T HAVE TO: any folder is fine.
If you check the “Merge Songs” option, your custom songs will be converted and merged with the other songs in the “Merged Songs” folder, and will be ready to be installed to your PS3. This is the best method for end-users converting songs on their own. Otherwise the converted songs will be found in the “All Songs” folder. This is the recommended method for people converting their songs to upload and share with others.
If you ticked the “Merge Songs” option, your CON files have been converted to the “Merged Songs” folder and are ready for installation. Jump to the “Installing to your PS3” section. If you did not tick the “Merge Songs” option, your CON files have been converted and are located in the “All Songs” folder. Jump to the “Merging already converted songs” section.
Merging already converted songs
The “Merge Songs” option found under Tools combines songs already converted to PS3 format so that they are ready to be installed on your PS3. This is what you’re doing after downloading the PS3 files from C3, for example.
Keep a copy in the All Songs folder, and copy/paste all the songs you want to merge into the “Songs to Merge” folder. The program will then merge all of the songs.dta files with the one provided in the “Merged Songs” folder, and have your customs ready for installation to your PS3. Now that your customs are ready to install, jump to the “Installing to your PS3” section.
Removing Custom Songs
The “Managing the pack DTA file” option found under Tools allows you to remove songs from the songs.dta, as well as the “Merged Songs” folder. While you can manually edit the songs.dta file and remove the song folders, it is recommended you use this tool for more accuracy, specially the more customs you have.
All of your songs will be listed in the order that they appear in the DTA. To delete a song, select it from the list and press “Remove selected”. Once you are finished removing the songs, press “Save”. You will then be given the option to send your song files from the “Merged Songs” folder to the Recycle Bin. Now that you have deleted your songs, jump to the “Installing to your PS3” section to install the revised songs.dta.
Note: Your songs will no longer show up in Rock Band 3 if you remove the song from the DTA, but they will still be on your PS3’s hard drive. If you need to clear up space on your hard drive, you can always remove the custom song’s files by navigating to “/dev_hdd0/game/BLUS30463/USRDIR/HMX0756/songs/” and deleting the folder of the customs you removed from the DTA.
Installing to your PS3
To install your songs, simply upload the folders and the songs.dta in the “Merged Songs” folder to the “/dev_hdd0/game/BLUS30463/USRDIR/HMX0756/songs/” on your PS3 via FileZilla. Accept any overwriting that may occur. Boot up Rock Band 3 and you will find your customs installed.
PAL Users
If you’re from the PAL region, then you will have to find the encryption key for the pack you want to use. You must also be on a 4.21 CFW (works fine with Rebug 4.21), as Klicensee Dumper hasn’t been ported to a newer firmware.
Before we begin, I must note you will be unable to use the PS3 files on the C3 Database, as those are already encrypted for NTSC users. You will have to use the CON files, and convert them yourself.
Files Needed:
KLicensee Dumper – Encryption key (KLic) dumper.
Rif2Rap – Converts .rif files to .rap.
HxD or a hex editor of your choiceOpen Multiman, and connect your PS3 to FTP. Navigate to /dev_hdd0/home/00000002/exdata (The 00000002 may be different, depending on how many users your PS3 has). Here you will find act.dat and a *.rif file. Pick the .rif file for the song pack you want to use. Please note that it must be a pack, and not a single song.
Navigate the left set of directories (your PC) to the location of Rif2Rap (R2R). Then on the right set of directories (your PS3), right click the .rif file and click “Download”. Then navigate the left set of directories to “R2Rdata” and download your act.dat. Back in Multiman, go to Settings > System Information. Here you will find the IDPS we need. Create a new file in HxD and copy the IDPS WITHOUT THE DASHES. Save it as “IDPS” under “R2Rdata”. Run R2R.exe. It will ask you to “Scan program directory & batch fix edats & rap2rif? Y/N”, press N. Then it will ask to “Scan program directory & batch rif2rap? Y/N”, press Y. Once complete, you will find your .rap file under “R2R/raps”.
Install the Klicensee Dumper .PKG file on your PS3. Then, open up Multiman and go to Settings > “Write Access to /dev_flash†and enable it. Connect to FTP, and navigate your PS3 to /dev_flash/vsh/module/, and download the libsysutil_np.sprx file to a safe place (you will be replacing this file, so this will be a backup). Then upload the libsysutil_np.sprx that is provided with Klicensee Dumper. Next, exit to the XMB and run the Dumper (screen should go black and then go back to the XM:cool:.
Run Rock Band 3, and play a song from the pack you want to dump (once the note highway appears you can exit to the XM:cool:. Load up Multiman, and FTP into the “/dev_hdd0/tmp” folder. Download the file “klicenses”, which contains the 32 character key, and the directory of where the pack is located. Make note of this directory, as this is where your songs will be installed to. Go back to Multiman, enable “Write Access to /def_flash” in Settings, and upload the backup .sprx file back to its original location under “/dev_flash/vsh/module/”.
Open up the “klicenses” file in Notepad, and open the “klic.txt” file found under “C3CONToolsbin”. Copy the key found in the “klicenses” to the “klic.txt” file on the line “KLIC Key: *Insert Key Here*”, replacing the current key with yours. On the line “ContentID: “, copy the file name of the .rap you converted earlier (minus the .rap extention). Save the “klic.txt” file. Navigate to “R2Rraps” and copy the rap to “C3CONToolsbin”. Delete the current “ps3.rap” file, and rename your rap file to “ps3.rap”
C3 Con Tools is now ready to convert your custom songs to the PS3 format using the pack you chose!
SETUP: First step is to install and run Multiman on your PS3, and then open up FileZilla and FTP into your PS3. You’re going to have to find the location of where your DLC is located. It’s going to be in one of the following places:
“/dev_hdd0/game/BLES00986/” (RB3 DLC)
“/dev_hdd0/game/BLES00385/” (RB2/RBN1.0 DLC)
“/dev_hdd0/game/BLES00228/” (RB1 DLC)
From there, you’re going to have to search through all the randomly named folders until you find your pack. For RB1 DLC the RAP file may have the folder location in it’s name (before the RAP extension). Once you find it, download the songs.dta and place it in the “Merged Songs” folder of C3 Con Tools. This can be found in the /ps3 folder in the program’s directory. If there is no /ps3 folder, run PS3 Converter in C3 Con Tools once, and the folder and subfolders will be created for you. From here you can follow the sections “Converting Xbox 360 songs”, “Merging already converted songs”, and “Removing Custom Songs”.
INSTALLATION: To install your songs, simply upload the folders and the songs.dta in the “Merged Songs” folder to the song pack directory that you found earlier on your PS3 via FileZilla. Accept any overwriting that may occur. Boot up Rock Band 3 and you will find your customs installed.

Edit History:
v1.1 – Added more clarity for PAL users, added new method to install customs (“Initial Setup: Option 2”) if you do not have Rock Band Free Pack 01, added info about pause/practice fix.
v1.0 – Initial ReleaseFebruary 7, 2014 at 3:47 pm #413663Nice, do the customs work online?
February 7, 2014 at 5:52 pm #413671Nice, do the customs work online?I dont believe so because if you take a jailbroken PS3 online, Sony can detect you and ban your console. The same goes with a JTAG Xbox 360.

This. While there are tools that can help avoid this, but it’s recommended that you don’t, unless you want to risk getting your console and/or PSN ID banned. I included PSNPatch (which is one of those tools), but mostly so that users can go on the SEN store. I use that to purchase my Rock Band DLC and I haven’t had any problems yet.
Also, links for the database will be updated throughout the day. Hoping to get almost the whole database done today, but no promises. If you have problems with any songs (not relating to charting issues obviously), please let me know and I’ll get them fixed as soon as I can.
February 8, 2014 at 12:43 am #413713AnonymousEh. It’s nice to see PS3 users getting customs but the process is just so risky and costly really… I really don’t know if many PS3 players will be willing to do this kind of stuff.

February 8, 2014 at 1:52 am #413716This isn’t “jailbreak your PS3 so you can play customs”…this is “if you already have a jailbroken PS3 then here you go, customs.”
We have plenty of people on the Wii, which also has to be modded.

February 9, 2014 at 7:11 pm #413779Thanks, it’s nice to see advancements like this
I’m personally gonna stick with the 360 though, even though my PS3 is my main console, I don’t trust going online on my CFW, unless there is a way I can download on my OFW PS3 and transfer it?
February 9, 2014 at 7:26 pm #413780If you have your equipment for the Xbox, then you should still consider, Xbox customs are always optimal quality, then they’re converted, so the conversions always have some sort of loss. In the PS3 world that is your ability to pause/unpause the game.
February 9, 2014 at 9:08 pm #413783I don’t trust going online on my CFW, unless there is a way I can download on my OFW PS3 and transfer it?Download official DLC? Well what I’ve done is either purchase it from either my OFW PS3 or from the Sony Entertainment Network website, run PSNpatch, and then log in and go to your purchase history. Then you can re-download your purchases.
Keep in mind…do this at your own risk. But I personally haven’t had any problems with it.
February 10, 2014 at 5:45 am #413809A real shame about the pausing issue. Otherwise the experience would be optimal on both those consoles.

In the PS3 world that is your ability to pause/unpause the game.Yeah, I’ll most likely stick with the Xbox for now, I was mostly considering this to free some room up in my set up (I have my CFW PS3, OFW PS3 and Xbox right next to eachother atm) but I don’t want to log in to the CFW because I do want to keep it unbanned to some day use as a backup if anything happens to my OFW
@TDCMarc I get you, I’m paranoid about being banned though
February 15, 2014 at 7:37 pm #414121Sorry if this has been answered already but does converting packs on ps3 converter work? It seems to convert only one song. Wasn’t sure if I had to do one song at a time or this was a bug.
February 15, 2014 at 7:38 pm #414122It’s only going to work one song at a time. If you have a pack, use Quick Pack Editor to dePACK the files and separate them into single files, then throw them at the converter. It can do batch conversions, just not of packs.
