July 30, 2015 at 12:57 am #451523Those steps are not required. All you need to do is format on the Xbox, then Copy TU4 to drive in RBtoUSB.
Fixed. Thanks for pointing that out.
August 3, 2015 at 3:29 pm #451957I registered an account just to say thank you! These steps worked like a charm. Easy to follow, and great community. Can’t wait to spend more time here!
August 19, 2015 at 4:53 am #4530533. Plug your flash drive back into your 360, turn it on, and enjoy playing Rock Band 3 custom songs ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_biggrin.gif” />If you are still connected to the internet it will tell you an update is required for Rock Band 3. Just press B or select “Cancel”.
Ok, so I’ve followed the instructions (twice) to the T, and selecting B or cancel here just backs the game out and I land at the 360 dashboard. What gives? I haven’t tried yet unplugging the network or something like that, but I’d rather not TBH since I still use the xbox for other things.
The update is of course for TU5. I’ve tried letting it complete, going back to the storage dash, and moving it over to USB just to manually delete it on the PC just as the original instructions thought… no dice.
August 19, 2015 at 10:15 am #453060I really don’t understand why people choose to follow different paths than the one we laid out years ago and that works everytime. One stick for TU4, one stick for TU5, only things on the HDD are the official DLC.

Really not sure why it’s not working for you. I followed the tutorial before I posted it to make sure it worked and even tried it again just now after seeing your post.
When I hit B, the update notice just goes away and continues with the game
I really don’t understand why people choose to follow different paths than the one we laid out years ago and that works everytime. One stick for TU4, one stick for TU5, only things on the HDD are the official DLC.I figured a majority of people wouldn’t bother with TU5 anymore after getting involved with playing customs.
Anyway, I just added an optional step to setup a second flash drive with TU5.

Under settings somewhere on dashboard there was a feature that was added on latest dash regarding updates disconnecting from live etc can’t exactly remember what the option was as i only play 360 at my mates now but check for this and change it to the opposite option and it will work

No, I understand that and I really appreciate the effort of posting info on the new system, it’s just that instead of just replacing the step of copying over files, which is the only thing different from the time we created the full length tutorial, you started from scratch, and some of the important aspects of customs installation we covered got lost, including the 2 keys system. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif”>

Regarding TU4 vs TU5 sticks, I may not fully understand – if I have a stick with TU5 (I don’t really need it since I’m getting into customs), does that trick the xbox into thinking that I have the TU5 updated somewhere so that it doesn’t attempt to force-install? Or is my Xbox rare in that it’s behaving as described above.
I definitely appreciate all the feedback and particularly the forum posts. I’d been dicking around with customs for a month or two now and while getting it to work was always sporadic the most frustrating part was scouring through the internet and this forum looking for the latest and correct method now that Party Buffalo appears to be out of the picture. So thanks, gents/ladies!
August 20, 2015 at 1:13 am #453118Alright so that’s all I had to do – in the 360’s System Settings there was an auto-downloads function turned on. I never saw the need to disable it, but that’s all I had to do in order to be given a choice to both back out of an update as well as pick a storage location.
Sucks I’ll have to select it each time, but oh well. Thanks for the help!

Or is my Xbox rare in that it’s behaving as described above. It’s not a “trick”. The XBox 360 looks at all attached storage to determine what updates, DLC and save files are available for the game currently running. If you have TU5 on an attached USB stick, the game will see it and use it. If you have TU4 on an attached USB stick (presumably a different stick), the game will see it and use that instead. If you have both TU4 and TU5 on attached storage, TU5 will trump TU4, and TU4 may get deleted (not entirely sure how that process works, but at any rate, only TU5 will take affect).

Create a new, local-only user account without an XBox Live membership. As long as you log in with that user, the game will never look for updates and never prompt you to download TU5. You can then switch user accounts the same way you switch memory sticks when you feel like playing online, posting scores to the leaderboards, or doing anything else that requires TU5 and network access.
August 23, 2015 at 11:18 pm #453402Followed the tutorial but I’ve been trying with a few customs and nothing has shown up in game at all. Everything shows up in RBtoUSB although the Xbox menu shows the drive as empty.
August 23, 2015 at 11:22 pm #453403Sounds like your Xbox dashboard isn’t updated.
August 23, 2015 at 11:53 pm #453406I assume if you can play online things will be up to date? I’ll check again anyways. This looks like a new thread so not sure if someone else has had the same problem somewhere else. I will keep trying regardless.
EDIT: It works now. I changed nothing. It just works. I guess I shouldn’t question it…
August 24, 2015 at 5:17 am #453428whenever i try and open the usb on anything my computer wont read it. it claims that there is no xbox compatible drive installed and wont let me do anything. i have tried using multiple programs and none of them work. help?
August 24, 2015 at 5:31 am #453429Sounds like you’re not following the tutorial.
