In all fairness, that video addresses how to play customs in a different way than what was being discussed in the thread. The video says to keep two sticks and I think what people were trying to do in this thread was combine that into a single source. So watching the video may not have helped address the need (which ajacks did end up watching apparently as he references the two stick method in his last post).

With that said, disrespect is never good, from anyone, IMHO. I think he took your “look for the video” comment as flip and short and responded inappropriately. If he would have come back with what I said above, could have spared him the heartache. If he was truly interested in help, he could have worked it out differently, as I would hope any of us could without fearing a ban.

That video explains exactly what is needed. The reason you need 2 sticks is not that you differentiate between customs and DLC, nobody has ever had to give up playing DLC along side customs and there is no specific way to play customs and DLC songs together, you can do that from day 1 and there is nothing you need to do to do that. The reason you need 2 sticks is that you want one stick with your official account that can go online, its cache, its savegame (which is not compatible with the TU4 savegame), etc. and one with your customs account. All DLC goes on the hard disk. If you have ever read a single line about how to play customs you know how to play customs and DLC on the same console.

If you don’t need to ever go online or use TU5 ever again you can use one stick, the logic is the same. There is no scenario in which you have songs on 2 sticks, there never was. That’s why I asked “What part of the video that explains it is not clear?” The video is pinned and titled “TUTORIAL – Playing Custom Songs (Video)”, so it’s impossible to miss, unless you believe that your spending 5 minutes to check the forums is more valuable than someone else doing so. Which unfortunately is what some people think, and we know that because they literally told us so.

It’s not difficult to understand: nobody here is paid to do support. You don’t buy a product that entitles you to some work on our part. Yet you can find literally all you need to play customs and even to author them because people gave up an insane amount of personal time to compile docs and help the community. If anyone is too lazy to look for the content it’s fine, it’s their prerogative. What is not their prerogative is insulting people, for which anyone will get a ban.

What some people don’t get (not referring to you of course, I’m saying this in general) is that a community that releases more than 10,000 pieces of UGC that in large part require 10+ hours of work per item does not simply spring up. It takes effort, planning and philosophy. That philosophy is simple: if you are one of the creators you get praises, love and appreciation; if you are one of the users you get a ton of high quality free content but you need to feed the creators. That balance has allowed us to sustain a community of great people. We can’t let anyone ignore this basic principle otherwise the whole system collapses. Can you be bothered checking the forums for 20 minutes before posting? If so, great. If not, we will still welcome you but you’re gonna be responsible for your own shortcomings. Do you have the time to properly learn how to author? If so, great, we have hours and hours of tutorials. If not, we will still welcome you but you’re gonna be responsible for your own shortcomings.

I was just trying to explain what MIGHT have happened. Personally, I have read a TON MORE than a single line on this site. I have read other sites, spent countless hours of research in these forums and on the web and pretty much did everything I’ve done (finally finishing up my first authoring of a song) on my own without needing any help and using more than C3 as a guide.

I get that it’s aggravating and I totally 100% am with you on how much time you and your crew and everyone who was involved spent working on this project. It’s amazing and I think you pretty much know that based on the positive confirmation that comes out of the site every single day. But the video wasn’t totally clear to ME. I’m not dumb for that statement, by the way, it just wasn’t clear to me from how it was explained. As I said, I figured out how to author songs just from all the documentation. But even when I was reading that, there were certain things that just weren’t explained how I would understand them. I don’t feel I should be berated for that or told I didn’t look somewhere or spend time on a site. I didn’t grasp it with the method given. Period. But there are times where I’m reading on these forums the help is not much help at all. It’s something we should have known. Well I’m sorry, but I’ve spent a full week immersed in everything and I’m still going to have questions ’cause I’m just not a human encyclopedia and don’t retain everything I read or fully comprehend it in context. I know not everyone is like that, people just ask without first reading, and thus the aggravation. The line is so thin sometimes it’s hard to know the difference.

I’m still just playing with the customs and the original songs as I’m not that concerned about getting it altogether. But watching that video put me no closer to accomplishing that. I’m sure others found it perfect for them and they understood it all. I just need a different way of explanation sometimes. Even your further explanation says “there is no specific way to play customs and DLC songs together”, which I thought was the point. But I realize I’m responsible for my own shortcomings so it’s not that difficult to do more research to find the explanation that will work for me. Let’s be okay with each other’s differences, styles of communication, etc. instead of tearing each other down because of it.

I realize I’m now so far off the follow up post (insult administrators of the site, get a ban – got it), but I also like philosophical debate. =-)

Who berated you for asking a clarification? I checked the posts you made and I didn’t see anything that stood out. And nobody berated the guy who got banned, I literally asked “What part of the video that explains it is not clear?”, I don’t think I could have been more clear in asking for what he needed help on than that. <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif”>

Was a general statement of how pretty much all forums work. I tend not to post anything until I’m at the brink of utter desperation and exhaustion to avoid what others endure when they ask questions that are probably outlined in documentation. This helps me avoid looking like I didn’t even look. Everybody’s been helpful (and so friggin’ quick) here to me, but I’ve literally only asked one question so far. I want to ask like 20 more but that’s just disrespectful of people’s time.

A suggestion for the future, for everyone: let us know what you’ve read and tried and precisely what’s bugging you, rather than asking right off the bat.

This question is old, but I still don’t see any clarification on this. There is only TU5 stick and official DLC or TU4 and customs. But there is no way to play both?

you can’t play your official DLC unless you logon to your account AND connect to xbox live, but if you connect to xbox live it will force and update and restart the game. Maybe someone is smarter than me to figure out how to get both at the the same time.

Its not the end of the world, but it is annoying having 800 selections on one drive, then having to switch sticks and restart just to get my other 800 songs.

Stick with TU4 and convert your DLC files from LIVE to CON using C3CON tools, although you can’t play online with your DLC if you do this.

Another option is to license transfer your account’s purchases to your current Xbox and re-download the DLC, then you can play it both offline and online

This was super helpful, btw. Curious if anyone has run into this issue while converting DLC to Con files. My RBN songs only show up as demos. They are in the same file path as they were extracted from the xbox and I used C3 tool to convert from live to CON. Really scratching my head on this one.

Edit: Looks like I missed the Folder with the RBN songs, converted once more and working, disregard!
