Just wanted to pop in and say thank you for this Nemo! It works great for me and is really impressive. <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />

Glad to hear. I downloaded v1.0.0 on work PC today and had it playing a few songs and it worked beautifully here too.

I’m working with colonel_32dll on figuring out the cause of the choppy playback – I’m fairly sure it’s something that can be fixed and then everyone can enjoy it.

It seems Windows Vista and SoX don’t get along, so the audio playback in cPlayer is crippled. If you experience problems with audio playback in cPlayer and you’re NOT on Windows Vista, please post here and let me know. It’s something I’m trying to find a solution to but it’s not caused by my code, it’s caused by SoX not getting along with something in Windows Vista.

Here are some screenshots to whet your appetite. If this doesn’t, nothing I can ever do will :v:

By the time this comes out…we’re looking at v2.0. There’s so much that has gone into this. Those three screenshots are showing a ton of new things. Can you spot them all?

All of this because Colonel_32dll had an ancient Windows Vista computer. :haw:

            Ancient computer? ><img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_frown.gif” />

My old stone abacus couldn’t properly run the program before, but I see 3-part harmony lyrics visuals, new graphic visuals (plus something going on upper-left corner with image/visuals) and what looks like a basic instrument preview. That instrument preview looks awesome, I can’t wait to see it in action! :v:

I just saw the screenshot from work, and apparently my home LED monitor is much better than this work monitor. From here it looks like the chart preview background is all black. It’s actually shaded so you can easily see where each track ends and the next begins. I guess I’ll need to make the grey a bit lighter :raise:

              #438904

I can easily see the separation on both my monitors.

Will the tracks be named? And did 1.0 have the practice sections listed as well? I thought it did.

What a great way to access all the data in a custom at once! There should be far more excitement about this than there is. I can see myself sitting there c-Playing custom after custom just watching the charts roll by. This should prove to be a great way to quickly check lyrics. It’ll also be a great way to preview the charts from some of the forums customs to see if you really want to load that song onto your stick.

Good. Maybe it’s just my shitty work monitors. In any case, I might still make improvements to that.

                Will the tracks be named?

At the moment they are not named, but they are organized in the same order in which Magma and REAPER list them: Drums/Bass/Guitar/ProKeys(or Keys if no ProKeys)/Harmonies(or Vocals if no Harmonies). You can also select which charts are displayed, so you can have only Pro Keys taking up the entire display, or all of them, or any combination.

And did 1.0 have the practice sections listed as well? I thought it did.

I haven’t seen 1.0 in such a long time now it feels. I don’t remember well, but I believe I did have that integrated by then. In either case, like everything else, displaying the practice sessions is optional.

This should prove to be a great way to quickly check lyrics. It’ll also be a great way to preview the charts from some of the forums customs to see if you really want to load that song onto your stick.

In the end, it’s a music player. Everything else is a bonus because I have access to that data so why not use it. But I would only use it as a rough idea of what’s going on, not a 1:1 representation of what it’ll be like in game.

It is kinda cool when the song has multitracks, since you can isolate the audio to any one track, then isolate the charts being displayed to that track, and choose how you want the lyrics displayed (there’s more than one option <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif” /> ), if at all.

The “thing” going on on the album art is a real time spectrum visualization of the audio playback. There’s over 10 different ways for the user to choose, and as the screenshots show, you can have it huge on the side display or small on the album art field while displaying the album art in the side display.

It’s all still very much in progress. I have to do a lot of code optimization and fix a few small bugs left before release. Maybe this weekend, maybe next week.

There should be far more excitement about this than there is.

I agree. I really like it, moreso because I can finally play my custom songs as if they were normal audio files. You can minimize cPlayer to your system tray and it just runs in the background without bothering anyone. You can make playlists by genre, artists, by type of sound (i.e. the Insta-Mix). And presumably, you download the customs of songs you like. So now you have a playlist of songs you like.

But with the botched first release and beta releases, I’m not surprised people haven’t taken to it.

I actually chilled out to one of the first betas for an hour because it’s cool that there’s still so much room to utilise our RB libraries in new ways, but at this rate I’m just waiting for all the bells and whistles.

This update looks sweet! Excited to get it when you’re done.

I just downloaded and tried this, and I am having audio stutter also with at least multi channel tracks, though it appears stereo tracks work fine. Windows 7 x64, AMD FX-8350 CPU w/ 16GB RAM – so perhaps it’s the same problem being seen under Vista? Playing a wav file (decoded from a FLAC, a full song) works fine.

This works: Michael Jackson – Bad (stereo mix)

This doesn’t: Fort Minor – Remember the Name (full mulitrack)

Actually, at around 1:20, the multitrack started playing fine. However if I seek it it doesn’t seem to ever recover.

When it’s not playing right it sounds like the audio mixing can’t keep up with playback, it’s not dropping out but pausing between playback buffers, until all of a sudden (no “speed up”, just sudden) it’s playing fine. CPU usage of sox is never over 2-3%.

I’m trying to google issues with sox but so far haven’t had any luck.

Sure sounds like the same problem Colonel_32dll experienced.

I’m going to remove the link in the OP since nobody should be even trying this version. Wait for v2.0. it’ll be worth it.

                      v2.0.0
                      - Changed from using SoX for audio playback to using BASS.NET so Windows Vista (and maybe Windows XP?) users should be able to enjoy the program without problems
                      - Restored and greatly improved visualization Chart: Snippet - gives you a real-time preview of the MIDI charts (organized like in REAPER as drums, bass, guitar, pro-keys/keys,harmonies/vocals)
                      - Expanded lyric display - can now choose between static lyrics, scrolling lyrics, karaoke style lyrics, or no lyrics at all, only PART VOCALS or Harmonies, using whole words or using in game syl- la- bles
                      - Added audio spectrum visualizations - right-click on the Visuals Panel and select 'Display audio spectrum' - there are over 10 different ones, just click on the Visuals Panel to change from one to another - cPlayer will remember which style you last used - default uses game palette colors, but just like with the MIDI charts you can enable random colors
                      - Added new visualization - Random: Phrase Lyrics will display the active phrase lyrics, randomizing the color, location, font, and size of each word in the phrase for a cool (but chaotic) karaoke vibe
                      - Changed how selecting lyric display settings works for a much smoother and responsive behavior - click on Options -> Lyrics settings -> and select your settings as you wish, as you do, the lyrics displayed are updated immediately
                      - Changed how selecting which audio tracks to play works for a much smoother and responsive behavior - click on Options -> Audio tracks to play and check/uncheck each track as you wish, as you do, the audio playback is updated immediately
                      - Changed how selecting which MIDI charts to display works for a much smoother and responsive behavior - click on Options -> MIDI charts to display and check/uncheck each track as you wish, as you do, the MIDI chart tracks displayed are updated immediately
                      - When changing volume you now hear the volume change immediately and without any audio hiccups (with SoX it meant stopping and restarting playback)
                      - When seeking by dragging the time slider you have immediate audio reponse (i.e. that famous 'seeking' sound)
                      - Direct access to playback timer makes for even more accurate timing of lyrics, phrase sections and MIDI chart visuals
                      - Many other improvements and fixes for a much more enjoyable user experience

I have been working on this for a ridiculously long time trying to polish every tiny bug I could find. But I’m exhausted. So here we go. I’ll listen for any bug reports through this weekend and will address any then. After this weekend, I’m going on my break so it’ll stay however it is by then.

I hope you guys like it. I’ve tried to put a lot of effort, adding some features that were either requested, mentioned, or seemed like a good idea. But at some point I have to stop adding features to this “music player” :haw: The help doc is fully updated as well, so you can consult that if you’re not sure what something does…but don’t be afraid to click around. There’s a ton of options to play around with.

Damn, this update really is something. And it also fixed the MIDI lag I had been experiencing. It’s great! Thanks Nemo!

I’d totally grab this if I didn’t spend 95% of my time on a Mac. Nice work regardless!!!
