December 21, 2019 at 12:00 pm #508551Hi everyone! Here is my final pack for Chart-a-Thon. If any of my songs released through this event caused you to donate, let me be the first to say thank you very much! Now, onto the good stuff…Canadian law states that 35% of radio play must contain music from Canadian artists. So today, me, MrPrezident, grubextrapolate, Buster66, and ATrueJedi are fulfilling that. Well actually, ALL Chart-a-Thon content today is straight from Canadian artists! 100% Canadian! But I’m up first, so here are my selections.Alvvays – “In Undertow” Authored by drummerockbandAlvvays has been such a surprise for me in terms of finding new artists this decade. I absolutely fell in love with them when I first heard them. I had the privilege of seeing them live in 2018 and it was one of my favourite concerts I’ve ever been to. And for my fellow Alvvays fans, here is more Alvvays like I promised. Sorry it took so long! All 3 of these songs are from their second outing called Antisocialites. Here is the first track from the album, one that’ll get you hooked on Alvvays if you haven’t heard them before!Alvvays – “Dreams Tonite” Authored by drummerockbandHere’s the second track from Antisocialites. The song non-Alvvays fans probably heard in an “Indie Rock Jams” playlist on Spotify or something like that. This is by far the Alvvays song I’ve had the most requests for, so I’m happy to have it done finally.Alvvays – “Not My Baby” Authored by drummerockbandIf you’re thinking “didn’t he release this already?” Yes, yes I have. But now it has pro keys, and it didn’t before! A couple tweaks here and there as well and with the brand new pro keys track, I recommend upgrading! The song uses a new song ID just because I had changed quite a few things so just make sure you delete the old version if you downloaded it previously.Felix Cartal & Lights – “Love Me” Authored by drummerockbandAlvvays not your thing? That’s cool, maybe this will be. This is a song that I just completely fell in love with from the first time I heard it. It features lyrics and vocals from Canadian singer Lights, and instrumentals from Canadian DJ Felix Cartal. It became such a huge hit for both of them, and at least in my neck of the woods, it’s on the radio daily. Both of them were pretty shocked and surprised to see it do so well on the charts. It’s one of my favourite songs of 2019, and I hope you’ll enjoy it too!Carly Rae Jepsen – “Now That I Found You” Authored by drummerockbandIt should be no secret that at this point, I love Carly Rae Jepsen. Like, A LOT. I saw her on the Dedicated tour in September and had front row seats, it was amazing! So I knew I had to author some stuff from Dedicated! Here’s the extremely catchy “Now That I Found You”. You may have heard this song play on those Peloton commercials you see lately ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_cheeky.001.gif” /> (BUT I LOVED THIS SONG BEFORE THAT COMMERCIAL OKAY?!)Carly Rae Jepsen – “Run Away With Me” Authored by drummerockbandAh yes, the song that convinced many people Carly Rae Jepsen was much more than just the “Call Me Maybe” girl. This song, as well as the whole E•MO•TION album, made people take Carly Rae Jepsen seriously as a musician and not just a one hit wonder. This first track on the album, “Run Away With Me”, hits you with that iconic saxophone right off the bat, and then from there you are hooked in for the rest of the incredible album. If you enjoy these songs, please consider donating at chartathon.com!SONG COUNT: 247Up next, is grubextrapolate, Buster66 and ATrueJedi with more from the Great White North! One of the tracks includes a punk medley!December 21, 2019 at 12:41 pm #508552
Thanks for Alvvays! Loved the previous customs, and always thought “In Undertow” was missing so great to have it.
December 21, 2019 at 2:44 pm #508554CRJ and Alvvays!!! Two of my favorites thank you so much!
December 21, 2019 at 8:01 pm #508558Required Canadian Content – Part 2
grubextrapolate and Buster66 present… Matthew Good – House of Smoke and Mirrors
When I posted the completion of Disintegration, I hinted that although Disintegration is my favourite album, there’s another close contender. That album is 2003’s solo debut by Matthew Good, Avalanche.
Following the breakup of Matthew Good Band at the end of 2001, Matthew Good returned to the studio with long-time MGB producer Warne Livesey to work on what would become Avalanche. This record was a creative departure from previous albums with Matthew Good Band and features the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra on several tracks. The album received high praise from both critics and fans alike, debuting at #2 on the Canadian Album Charts and being certified Gold only 2 months after release. The first single, Weapon (charted by MrPrezident) also won the Juno award for Video of the Year in 2003.
But we’re here to talk about my favourite track from the album and probably my favourite Matthew Good song overall: House of Smoke and Mirrors. The closing track on this stellar album, some might see this song as flawed – the squeaking of the strings on the acoustic guitar as it starts, the minimalistic piano, the crackle of the amp as the song builds – but thats all part of what makes it so brilliant to me. It’s raw and has such a great built to it. If you don’t know it, check it out. I hope you’ll come to love it as I do.

I definitely plan on getting the rest of this excellent album into Rock Band some day… and I’ll see you again in a few days…
Atruejedi presents… Sum 41 – Dave’s Possessed Hair / It’s What We’re All About / Ride the Chariot to the Devil
“If your life was a book, your story would be fiction…”
Looking at my releases, you probably wouldn’t realize that my tastes tend to gravitate toward thoughtful and depressing lyrics. Happy and upbeat are not a typical part of my rotation. But sometimes a song is so fun and has such swagger that you can’t help but be charmed, even if it’s juvenile. Fortunately for you, when I make a song for Rock Band, I always ask myself, “Will this be a dope-ass tune for an alcohol-fueled party?” The answer is always yes, but it’s resounding in this case.

This Rock Band 3 custom song, Dave’s Possessed Hair / It’s What We’re All About / Ride the Chariot to the Devil by Sum 41, is my forty-seventh release, not infrequently requested on the forums. I’m proud to bring to the community as a part of Chart-a-thon. If you download this song, please consider making a donation at chartathon.com. All proceeds are donated directly to the American Cancer Society. And you sons of guns who requested it damn well better pay up! If you’re able, of course.
Your haircut will be embarrassing in 20 years, too, motherfucker.
My first experience with this song was hearing the reworked and re-recorded version featured on the Spider-Man soundtrack from 2002. I used to really like that cut, back when I didn’t understand hip-hop nor have a basis of comparison to what was good and what was the opposite of that. But after hearing the original from their 2000 EP Half Hour of Power (which I still consider their first album, but whatever), I couldn’t really enjoy the Spider-Man version anymore. Many will disagree, but I think that while the original has less lyrics, those lyrics hold up better than the less-than-stellar filler from the expanded version. Plus, this version is a fucking medley.

Drums by Chainsaw Octopus
Special thanks to grubextrapolate
Not only do you get to play the original version of It’s What We’re All About as two white boys and an Indo-Guyanese dreamboat doing their best impressions of the Beastie Boys, but you get to enjoy its pitched predecessor, Dave’s Possessed Hair, and the instrumental outro Ride the Chariot to the Devil. I’ll let the gameplay video speak for itself, but I obviously have to thank Chainsaw Octopus for the work he put not only into the drums chart, but for the extra effort he gave in helping me finalize the bass part, which was rapid and buried because of the insane drumming. We went back-and-forth debating what we heard, but we finally came to an agreement and I’m very proud of what we’ve made.
The guitar has a similar story. I pitched it all as a vocals part, then converted the melody of that to a five-gem guitar chart. But it lacked chords because I’m awful at chords. So I recruited a true Canadian, grubextrapolate, who fleshed it out and turned my basic work into something much more developed and immersive. Thank you, my friend.

Thanks for downloading! Yes, it’s quite intimidating on drums… and it isn’t rude to ask, but it isn’t going to happen if you’re relying on me to author it ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif” />
I considered pulling some strings behind the scenes to make the drummer (who, without technical string-pulling, lip syncs HARM1) do the lip sync for Steve’s part (charted to HARM3), but there’s so much focus on the drummer anyway that I felt like I should give some love to the bassist, since Cone doesn’t contribute any vocals (as far as I can tell). Deryck and Dave do their parts accurately, though. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
December 22, 2019 at 3:58 am #508569Loverboy “When It’s Over”1981’s Get Lucky was the second album from Canada’s hard rockers Loverboy, reaching number 7 on the Billboard 200 album chart and remaining on the chart until 1984. Upon completing a North American tour as the opening act for Journey, the band went on a touring spree for several years that included dates with such bands as Cheap Trick, ZZ Top, Kansas, and Def Leppard.Following the success of “Working for the Weekend”, “When It’s Over” instead relies more heavily on synthesizers. Thanks to my fellow Canadian authors and AtrueJedi!SONG COUNT: 250!
Come back in 8 hours, TheSheepQueen is releasing a classic pop prog instrumental, an Australian masked band’s tune about choosing who you are, and the one big, huge, dare I say, GIGANTIC work of art from the man who surely was the face of this decade in popular music.

MrPrezident: https://db.c3universe.com/songs/all/__user/MrPrezidentDecember 22, 2019 at 12:06 pm #508573Customs customs customs eh? All those songs but we’re missing the greatest, the CREATIVE GENIUS, so let’s start with the big number
Undeniably one of the greatest songs of the decade, POWER is sort of the magnum opus from light to decent 6 My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, the song most notably features a sample of 21st Century Schizoid Man by King Crimson, which gives a very paranoia-inducing nature to the banger.
Mammagamma is a great number from APP, with a very disco-ey beat, sort of progressing while keeping the same ascending melody. The track is notable for being almost completely played through a computer.
Well what are ya? This dancey track is sure to get your sport routine going with the catch melody, that is if you’re a yob. If you’re a wanker, it’s just a cool tune to get drunk like the other members in the video.
All of the above authored by yours truly.
SONG COUNT: 253Next up is Kueller who does you know what, obviouslyDecember 22, 2019 at 4:04 pm #508581Thanks! I’ve wanted that Kanye West song for a while!
December 22, 2019 at 8:00 pm #508592Thank you Sheep 🐑! Today I present to you two new songs from the project I’ve been slowly working on, Muse’s most recent album Simulation Theory.
Propaganda is an interesting mix of folk acoustic guitar, low tempo electronic beats, and smooth pop vocals. Its lyrics take the sexy, sometimes a little creepy, pop song and use it to describe the allure and pull of propaganda as a seductive character. For a band known for colliding genres without care the blend here was surprisingly well crafted.
Reminiscent of Muse’s early influence Rage Against the Machine (complete with a DJ solo), Break It To Me has become a fan favorite from this album. And now I offer it here with full multitracks never seen before! Enjoy this fun jam as if it were an official song. There are some notes regarding the stems you can check out in the database post.

Next up, MrPrezident takes us away from this world of the modern and futuristic with a song from some legends of rock music.

December 23, 2019 at 4:03 am #508604Led Zeppelin “The Ocean”Authored by MrPrezident, AJFOne23, NSW1-6, Sideshow and OscarJ08The closing track from the famous Houses of the Holy, “The Ocean” is a metaphor for the ‘sea of heads’ faced by frontman Robert Plant. It was recorded over several sessions in 1972 at the stately home of Mick Jagger, using the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio, which they had used on their previous album (Led Zeppelin IV). The song is ostensibly about his daughter Carmen, who was three years old at the time of recording, and when performing the song live he would often update the lyric based on her current age at the time.Song Count: 256
Up next, Yaniv297 returns with a band from Northern Ireland, which I believe is making its rock band debut! Stay tuned.Keeping the content Canadian since 2017!

MrPrezident: https://db.c3universe.com/songs/all/__user/MrPrezidentDecember 23, 2019 at 10:25 am #508610Great to see Zeppelin here! I think because they’re such a big band, many of their songs were done in the very early times of making customs, and so they’re not up for today’s standards. I remember once trying to play “Stairway to Heaven” and it was out of sync…
Anyway, I’ll be back in a bit with another song!
