There’s no cost to the C3 users, this is all graciously paid for by Farottone and TrojanNemo. As I’m sure Farottone will say, your use of C3 Universe will be support enough.

Regarding your other question there is no exact rule against different authors releasing their own chart of the same song, it’s just highly discouraged for multiple reasons. Other users who have released a song already in the customs database will usually post it in their customs release thread and not upload to the database.

It’s not disallowed in the database and it’s not disallowed here. The space on the File Server is the one thing we might get pick about (but that would be only for say somebody who only does duplicates of other songs and does a ton of them and they are of subpar quality, a scenario I can’t imagine would happen), for the rest authors are already and will be free to author what they want, even if we don’t like duplicate versions.

I knew it’s not an explicit rule, but the database doesn’t really lend itself to that scenario either. Like having a list of releases to pick from in the rare case one is abandoned and contact impossible. It’s a nitpick really, and the social system of Universe might be enough to improve that kind of interaction.

And you’re all too generous. I’ll do my best to put the service to good use.

I knew whatever you were up to would be useful, but I never expected anything as complete as this. Thanks! I only wish I would have had the time to help. But I’ll be a happy user especially when I get back into authoring later this year I hope.

Godspeed, you creators of customs! You makers of melody! You heroes of harmony! You muses of music! You architects of arrangement! You keepers of the chords! You bearers of bars! You bards of bebop!

            …I’ll stop.

No, keep going. You’ve got a very poetic way with words.

I’ve always wanted an authors page – there are certain authors who just always deliver high quality customs and their WIP/release thread is usually too clunky to browse. This looks amazing!

…I was wondering why my page was so barren until I realized my most popular custom was uploaded January 5th:argh:

Also, sorry for a dumb specifying question, but will the old database be completely superseded? I saw a mention of updating links to the associated c3u page in the current database, so I’m wondering if we’ll be juggling two databases and trying to keep both updated – one with potential external links and one without. Will there be a phasing out period? Will the old database still exist for people who are banned from uploading to the new one?

Another dumb clarifying question: is uploading multiple versions of a custom a ban-able offense? I don’t mean RB2 or 2x versions, but say DemonUnicorns maintained both his chord-heavy and chord-reduced versions of “Jellybelly”, where the only difference is the intro’s guitar chart – would it be kosher to use filespace for both varieties? Sorry for silly hypothetical.

To everyone involved in this project: you are crazy and also awesome. Thanks for all the hard work!

You know, I should really add another link for that. Plus, I’ll just host it on mediafire, though I’m sure you still want the question answered.

Edit: I ended up using C3U.

C3U is a different platform that does not change anything about the Customs DB. You won’t be juggling 2 databases, you’ll just be uploading your files to a file server as much as you would for Mediafire or another file locker. And if you choose to use an external file locker you can still just upload your songs to C3U to get metadata and use the C3U link for stats.

Multiple versions is not a problem, you can release them as you please.

Will we have support for batch downloads?

It’s just that I prefer to have a quick “download all” option instead of downloading each custom one by one.

One of the community managers and the main tournament organizer over at SpinShare. Also somewhat decent at charting for RB3 I think.

I just download songs to play, but I must say “All hail the MIGHTY FAROTTONE!”

No batch support, no, it’s not a download assistant, just install one for your browser if you need to queue downloads.

                          This sounds ridiculously awesome!

                          Massive thanks to all involved!

Now I want to finish up some customs just so I can upload them to this thing.

This looks fantastic – thank you! The hard work and dedication to the RB community by everyone involved in C3 never ceases to amaze me.
