Hi. I am quite new to authoring, and these are my first stabs at Full Band. I’ve been charting guitar only for a few months – poorly at first, but I am getting better. I like (and play) almost any kind of music, but tend to look for under-represented Classic Rock bands to chart. So, in my last outing, I did all of Blind Faith on guitar.

Here, I’ve picked two bands ignored by Rock Band – The Animals and Ten Years After.

I put up my first draft for House of the Rising Sun in the WIP section, and Vx helped quite a bit with the Pro-Keys, so should get authoring credit. The files are here:

      https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B0FHnxeCnFIjNmNsRUVFaHRyYlU&usp=sharing

I’d Love to Save the World started as a guitar-only FOF chart, by Ivanmq1. I cleaned up that chart, and wrote the rest. Again, authoring credit must be split. All files are here:

Any suggestions and help would be greatly appreciated. The feedback so far on House was really wonderful, and I learned quite a lot.

House of the Rising Sun must be picked up. If Nyx can’t I’ll pick it up post-Genesis, but I sure hope Nyx can work on this one.

It appears the year is wrong for I’d Love To Change The World, and the (fb) tag in the title of the song should be left out as a C3 release is pretty much expected to have all instruments charted from the get go. I would also recommend trying to find a higher resolution scan of the album art and using the album art file override thingy in C3 Magma to make it be as high-def in game as possible (there is a guide on how to do that somewhere on the authoring subforums)

Also I don’t know the song at all, but is it a Halloween-like song? The Halloween visualiser theme seems to indicate that but it doesn’t look like a Halloween song from the names or album art?

I’ll fix the year and name – sorry. I had strange problems play-testing this. My xbox wouldn’t recognize the new parts. I changed the name (hence the F:cool:, and ran it through magma again, thinking that might work, but it still acted as though the song wasn’t on the memory stick. So I deleted the song cache, and it loaded. As far as the Halloween theme, that simply came up with visualizer. I figured it was an October treat for us.

When that “changes not appearing” thing happens, try changing the Song ID (it’s on the tab with the tiers, MIDI, animation speeds, etc. in Magma) and potentially change the name of the CON file itself, that tends to fix it. Either that or deleting your song cache, though that also deletes all your scores

As for the Halloween theme, the visualizer is set to have certain built in themes appear on certain dates for the sake of convenience, though they should be used for songs that have something to do with the theme, so for example if releasing anything spooky in October one can use the Halloween theme for fun basically

Regardless of what anybody can tell you, there is ONE and only ONE thing that needs and has to be changed to make a song show updates to metadata, including instruments added: the song ID. That’s it. In Magma, change the *filename*, build and you’re done. Or don’t change the filename and force an ID change in Magma. If you change the filename after compiling it does nothing. If you change the song’s title, it does nothing. The reason is simple. the song ID is already in the cache with specific metadata info, hence upon loading the game will consider the song as already added to the internal database.

              Edit: ninja’d.

Thanks! I always thought I had to change the song or file name on the first tab, but that wasn’t working.

The second song I ever tried to chart was a real favorite – Emerson, Lake, and Palmer’s Lucky Man. I went back to that, and made it full band:

Drums are by Oscarj08, the rest is mine.

The file, audio, and rbcon are here:

OK, 30 days are up, and no takers, so it is time to remove these and post them elsewhere.

It seemed like there was some early interest in House of the Rising Sun, but I have not been contacted by anyone. Should I take down all three songs, or leave that one?

Genesis has absorbed all energies during these months. Not saying offers will pour in later, but in example House of the Rising Sun is one thing we will definitely pick up, provided they are in working order or almost working order of course.

OK, thanks. I’ll let them all ride for a while. I plan to post some new songs this weekend, but I’ll leave these for later.

I am really looking forward to the Genesis Pack.

Sorry for the triage delay – things got a little crazy with the Genesis thing. I’ll work through a couple songs each night until I’m caught up.

Triage pass for I’d Love to Change the World:

This has big tempo map issues. You should generally have a tempo marker at every measure, especially in a song that varies a lot, like this one. You’ve only got one every four measures, and that leads to big disconnects all over the place (1/16th early, 1/16th late, etc).

                            GUITAR

It’s easier to review if note duration is at least 1/32. I guess these funky zero length notes work, but it’s hard to read, and I’m not sure how friendly CAT would be to it.

10.4.80 big tempo map problem here – the audio leads the gems by 1/16.

12.2.50 these second sustains are all too long – I’d make them 8ths instead of quarters.

28.2 Sustains too close together. Leave at least 1/16th

                            28.2.50 hopo

28.4 notes start just a little before 28.4 – this is asking for trouble. Quantize notes to a 1/16 or 1/32 grid (except if there are fancy triplets, etc)

                            36.4 hopo

36-38 lots of timing issues here

                            39-41 stick with the solo guitar here – there’s a stab at 39, 40, and 41.

I’ll stop there, because the tempo map problem will throw everything else off.

Thanks. I’ll work on fixing this up. The guitar chart, and the tempo map that came with it, are not mine, hence the funny tiny notes. I changed notes that sounded off, but left the chart untouched otherwise. I like the song, and I’ll try a complete rewrite, with a new tempo map. These are very helpful suggestions.
