    pksage note, Jun 12: Edited out Lost in the Echo, since it’s been released

    #420636

    I would like to sponsor Lost in The Echo. Upload an RPP+audio (preferably MP3/OGG if you do all the stems as well due to my limited hard disk space) and I will dive right into playtesting it

    #420708

    Alright here is my full playtest for Lost in the Echo. Please don’t be intimidated by the wall of text, it’s not as bad as it looks <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_cheeky.001.gif” />

    GENERAL:

    -Mix: I would say to move that weird noise in the intro of the drum stem to the backing track, otherwise it will disappear if the drummer starts jamming before the song starts.

    -Mix: Move the fading reverse cymbals and stuff (like at 33.1) in the stutter vocal effect stem into the backing stem so they won’t disappear if people play with vocals muted for the sake of karaoke.

    -[play] markers: If possible have these start a 16th or more before the note being played to avoid potential glitched animations.

    -Venue: Extremely optional as it looks fine as is, though perhaps some more _trails effects here and there could look nice considering it’s described as a “visual echo” by the docs.

    Pracite sections and events;

    -I don’t think it’s necessary to have 3 intro sections, remove [prc_intro_b] and rename [prc_intro_c] to [prc_intro_riff]

    -Add a [crowd_intense] marker at 10.1 and consider to have a [crowd_noclap] event active throughout the song as it doesn’t seem like the type of song you would clap along to

    -Move verse_1b to 26.1, chorus_1 to 34.1, verse 2b to 54.1, chorus 2 to 62.1, tension to 70.1, verse_3 to 78.1, chorus_3a to 86.1 and chorus_3b to 94.1

    Note: Any notes on Expert should also be changed/fixed on lower difficulties when appropriate.

    DRUMS:

    -Animation: No need to make all the snare hits be soft rim hits, they all sound triggered and powerful enough for a normal hit animation.

    -Tier: Might be worthy of a 4 dot due to the weird rhythms going on here

    -Events: You might want to place the mix events a 16th from each other right after the track name instead of stacking them on top of it, it could cause errors

    Expert;

    -41.4: Sounds like there should be a tom or kick along with this crash.

    -47.1, 51.1, etc.: Make this Blue cymbal Green on all difficulties

    -50.4.50: Uncharted percussion hit here, either make it a snare or add a Yellow tom marker.

    -61.3: Sounds like there should be yellow percussion toms between the snares here in the same way as 9.3 etc.

    Hard;

    -6.2.50, 7.2.50, 8.2.50: I would say to remove these kicks

    -10.1: You generally want to avoid double cymbal hits like this on Hard

    -25.4.75: Consider removing this snare to avoid a “starting with the left hand fill” situation

    Medium;

    -18.3.75, 19.3.75, etc.: Feel free to keep in these Yellow tom hits for Medium.

    -19.2.50, 21.2.50, etc.: I think moving these a 8th back could work better, also on Easy

    -26.3, 27.3, etc.: I would say to keep these snares considering how audible they are.

    -94.4, 96.4, etc.: Remove these kicks

    Easy;

    -18.1, 47.1, etc.: Remove the kick and put in a Green Crash here instead

    -26.3, 27.3, etc.: Same as Medium, keep the snares. Perhaps remove the ride cymbal hit right afterwards on Easy though.

    -50.1: Don’t have kicks along with hand hits, instead just make this measure exactly like Medium without the kick.

    -101.4.50: Feel free to keep this snare

    BASS:

    -Sustain lengths: Expert and Hard should have a 16th gap, Medium a 3/16th gap and Easy a 4th gap after the end of a sustain before the next note. If this ends up with a stubby un-whammyable sustain anywhere, simply make it unsustained.

    -Animation: Consider making the strum animations be picked rather than default, sounds like the organic parts are played with a pick.

    -Tier: If you follow the advice I give here on charting the choruses and/or effect bridge differently, bump it up to 2 dot

    Expert;

    -34.1, etc.: I would say to chart the organic bass here, same pitches but more notes so more fun to play. Sounds like it goes in the same rhythm as the guitar, so keep the reductions consistent there if so.

    -70.1 and out: Sounds like there happens some things in between the stuff you have charted. Not that audible, but if you find a fun way to chart it, go do it.

    -94.1: I would say to chart this in a way so that it doesn’t leave gaps of nothing here since there is audible bass going throughout the section.

    Hard;

    -10.1, etc.: While technically not wrong to keep these parts relatively unreduced, I would say to keep the reductions here consistent with the ones on Guitar.

    Medium;

    -9.1 and out: I would say to wrap this differently so it doesn’t have both a G and a O note involved.

    -13.3, 13.4, 17.3, etc.: Don’t remove these notes, instead wrap the section differently so it fits in.

    -37.1, etc.: This is way too over-reduced, should be fixed by itself once you chart the acoustic bass part instead though. Also applies to Easy.

    Easy;

    -9.1: No need to remove this R

    -13.3, etc.: You can also keep the middle note in this riff.

    -17.4: I would say to make this unsustained and move it to 17.3

    GUITAR:

    -Tier: I would honestly make this 0 dot myself.

    Expert;

    -Chord progression: I think Y/O-Y/B-G/Y-R/B would be a better progression for Expert and Hard than the current one since it uses all colors and currently the G/R chords are wrong pitchwise compared to the other chords (it’s supposed to be higher than the G/Y chords)

    Medium;

    -Chord progression: Move the G/Y and G/R chords so they change places throughout the song

    Easy;

    -Chord progression: Make it go Y-R-G-R rather than Y-R-Y-G

    KEYS:

    (note: I am going to assume most reductions are the same on 5-lane and PK)

    -Nitpick: Move the idle_realtime marker to 103.1

    Expert;

    -22.1, 26.1, etc.: Sounds like a octave shift in the middle of the measure, which is wrapped fine on Pro, but might work better if the measure starts as G/Y and then halfway through goes G/R on 5-lane.

    -PK; 28.1.75, 28.3.75, etc.: Sounds like the 3 C/A chords here should be E/A

    -33.1, etc.: Pretty sure this should be charted identical to 29.1

    Hard;

    -3.4.25, 4.4.25, etc,; Consider removing this chord to make some breathing room and to keep each measure to 7 chords rather than 8

    Medium;

    -3.2.50, 3.4.50, etc.: Remove these chords

    Easy;

    -General: Keep it to 2nd notes, you have several places where you have 3-4 notes per measure while you usually want to only have 2 maximum.

    -6.4: Move this to 6.3 on 5-lane, remove it but keep the A at 6.3 on PK

    VOCALS:

    -Nitpick: I would say to move everything one octave down to make it sound better in practice mode if using pitch help.

    -Harmonies: Hide the HARM3 lyrics for the oh’s in the choruses with a $ sign after each lyric (dont’t do it for the +slides though or they will glitch up)

    -Harmonies; 72.1: Consider making the stutter vocals on HARM3 into talkies^ rather than talkies#, might be a bit hard to hit as is.

    -General: Note lenghts need a good cleanup, especially in the sung sections, as you seem to have charted breathing and S, H and F sounds as part of note tubes at a fair ammount of places, and it’s too on-grid in the pitched parts. Go over with a 64th grid and clean it up.

    -General: Certain tubes here and there seems to start slightly later or early in the rap verses.

    -18.1: The timing in this measure seems wonky

    -41.4, 42.3, etc.: These needs to be a 16th longer so the slide doesn’t start too early

    -44.3.75, 96.3.75, etc.: Move this a 16th back to 44.3.50 etc.

    -72.1, etc.: There is two #’s in these talkies, you should only have one or it’s gonna look weird ingame.

    -90.4: “lie” starts as a F and slides down to E a 8th later

    Alright here is my full playtest for Lost in the Echo.

    Thanks for all the feedback <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_biggrin.gif” /> Was a bit overwhelming seeing all that text but I went through and made the changes/fixes you pointed out to me.

    I didn’t chart the “organic bass” parts you mentioned though as I personally feel that it is very low in the mix and the electronic bass can be heard much better. I have sent you a new RPP to take a look at, let me know if there is anything I missed <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
