Chart-a-thon Day 19, Slot 2: Farottone’s 10+ minutes pop-rock songs 3-pack!
We all have that progressive rock-lover friend who won’t just shut up about how amazing long songs are and how you can’t really consider music anything under 10 minutes… Well, today is the day you fight back!
Yes, because a song doesn’t need to be long to be good but also a long song doesn’t need to be prog to be good. And by that principle here you find 3 amazing songs that will drain your batteries quicker than you can say “actually this pack would have been a nightmare to author back when Magma didn’t allow to render audio longer than 10 minutes”!
George Michael had one of the best voices in pop music by far and in the 90s he was one of the highlights of the historic Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert held in April 1992. From that concert came the Five Live EP, which features George Michael on all tracks. This one is, in my estimation, one of the best medleys from the 90s. It has so much punch and the vocals are really amazing. You HAVE to give this a try!
A note on drums: there’s a lot of overdubbing so choices had to be made. The track plays great and trust me when you don’t see some notes authored: only one drum track at a time, we don’t mix things up in this house!
Let me make something clear: I absolutely do not like New Age. I really really don’t like it, I think it’s just ambient noise and I will not be caught dead admitting that Principles of Lust by the band Enigma from the MCMXC a.D. album, which I totally do not own in vinyl by the way, is actually pretty great. This track, which became an insane hit in Europe at the time and features Gregorian chants, is totally not what I enjoy usually and I certainly would not go over the trouble of having to decipher what I eventually realized were Latin lyrics sung backward to author it. And I certainly would never spend hours trying to find original Gregorian chants lyrics to see exactly from which books the lyrics for this song were taken to transcribe them…
This song is pretty famous and all credit for actually getting me started on this go to Vx_, who has done tempo mapping, pro keys and guitar.
