12 Days of Chartmas 2022 Day 5 Slot 1: Two 80s, Two Ladies and Two Indies

Happy holidays everyone!

I’m pleased to release some charts I’ve been working on a for a while and seemed a good reason to get them complete and into your hands. Although they are a mix of genre and decades, I’ve labeled them, “Two 80s, Two Ladies and Two Indies” for a total of six varietal customs with the hope that there’s something in here for everyone…well…maybe not everyone, but hopefully a few. =-)

// TWO 80s

Thompson Twins – Hold Me Now

Take that trip back to the 80s for a hit song that hasn’t been covered yet by official or unofficial ways. But happy to bring this solid hit into the Rock Band customs database.

If you lived through the 80s, you most definitely heard this song as it was a chart topper and solidified Thompson Twins as a bonafide 80s band that extended beyond a single hit.

Tom Bailey, singer songwriter in TT, describes the song as, “what it feels like to get back together again after separation and the kind of ideas that come up and the way that emotion and physicality somehow are brought together.” It’s emotionally charged, but sooooo 80s.

Naked Eyes – Promises, Promises

Clearly nowhere near the popularity of their biggest hit, “Always Something There to Remind Me”; however, “Promises, Promises” still did exceptionally well on the charts as their second hit single and would be familiar with anyone fondly remembering 1983.

And quite frankly, is a bit more heartfelt than their prior hit. So much so, there is an INCREDIBLE unplugged version that was recreated by writer/singer Peter Byrne that is a phenomenal alternate version of it and brings a whole different level of it by removing all the instrumentation that buried the heart of the song. You should definitely give that one a listen, but in the meantime, grab this one and start rockin’ out to this 80s hit.

// TWO LADIES

Billie Eilish – No Time To Die

The title track to the last James Bond film, this one really showcases Billie’s vocal prowess, with her placing every single note in the exact place she wants it. And the result is heartfelt and brilliant.

Although this one is mainly showcasing the vocals, the other tracks can be challenging, included the intricate but sometimes buried drum parts. So buried, you will find people who don’t even realize there is a drum beat underneath and have made up their own versions.

This one is a multi-track, so will feel like the real thing.

Lorde – Liability

This song is absolutely heartbreaking and really showcases Lorde’s ability to dig into her life and bring out something incredible that will touch and then break your heart.

It’s only keys and vocals, but that’s what brings it power. She tells her story of how she can be too much for people, and although they enjoy her at first, it’s gets overbearing and they leave out of her life, making her feel as though she is a liability to others.

A friend of mine who felt as though this told her story too, sent this to me, so I had no other choice but to give it the Rock Band treatment.

// TWO INDIES

Wet Leg – Angelica

Maybe you just got done playing Chaise Longue, an official Rock Band 4 song from Wet Leg (if you didn’t, don’t forget to buy it), and you just want more Wet Leg. Good news! It’s here for you now. Angelica is another fun and upbeat song that will have you moving and trying to empty your head of this little ear bug.

It’s an absolute joy on every instrument and you won’t mind hitting repeat on this one to play and listen to it all over again. AND, this venue came out better than I even had pictured in my head, so it’s even fun to watch.

Sea Girls – Lonely

A very endearing indie rock song that lends itself well to rock band, with the main parts all represented. About the Noise publication describes the song by saying, “the lyrics in the track are raw and honest, but also catchy and captivating. Easy to relate to, and easy to have on repeat.”

The song talks about two loves. One for his band, and one for a partner. I adore the line, “I needed to go, but I left on a light.” But, unfortunately, as you’ll learn in the song, his partner is hooked up with another and there may be no hope in returning.

It’s an absolute blast to play and sing so give it a go and hope you enjoy!

That’s my contribution to the holiday spirit. Up next, a few customs from andrew etg.
