I am trying this again after failed attempts previously. It’s been a long time so I want to be clear of the NEW new (new) process.
According to the post from the old c3 forum posted in this thread on June 11, 2019 at 8:05 pm, the instructions say to read the instructions from here:
https://www.psx-place.com/threads/tutorial-ps3hen-the-great-ps3-hen-all-in-one-guide.24369/But there look to be newer instructions here?
https://www.psx-place.com/threads/4-88-2-evilnat-cobra-8-3-custom-firmware-cfw-cex-released.32057/page-95#post-304386I’m just trying to make my dusty PS3 slim play some custom RB3 songs that Harmonix will never release. My PS3 slip is on 4.84 and has HEN 3.0.1 and IRISMAN 4.84.5
What should be my new starting point? Last time I had issues, it was suggested I should uninstall HEN and IRISMAN and start over.I tried this again and it looks like I’m stuck at the same place.
Rock Band 3 gets stuck on “LOADING NEW DOWNLOADED CONTENT… 351/351 LOADED”Once you get a good library going, it’s worth it…
Is it worth it on PS3? Or am I polishing a tin can?
Disabling the internet gave me “Could not resolve update host” same difference I guess.
IrisMAN loads, but File Manager freezes still. Sigh. I think this was my sign. After so much time, this process isn’t nearly as streamlined as I would have expected after so many years, even for a community driven project. Maybe that’s the complexity of the task, or the lack of active development. Either way, I don’t know that this is worth the trouble.
I have 71 songs by Muse. I’ve looked at the DTA file in Notepad++ and did some code highlighting and could not identify any errors.
I opened the setlist manager and that could not find any issues either.
I exported to CSV and could not find any errors there either.
I delete all the contents on the PS3 target folder before copying my files for each test.
As I attempt to try again with with only 30 files, HEN is now starting with the text “Update Server Responded with an Error” or something like that.
It looks like it loads HEN, but when I launch IRISHman, it freezes after I select “File Manager”.
I’m half tempted to put in a new SSD into this PS3 and install HEN from scratch and start all of this with an essentially “New” PS3.
I did only about 300 songs and it worked. The last few comments have been really helpful and insightful.
I’m not really curious how hard it would be to build a code parser using that would work in Notepad++ and I cannot find the comment, but someone mentioned a fix for broken DLC. That’ll be a separate research project.
The songs.dta file is 100,724 lines long… I’ll try again and cut the list in half.
If I knew what language this was, I could have a code formatter try and identify what’s wrong.
OK, so I put 805 on there this time (806 files/folders including songs.dta), deleted everything in the songs folder on the PS3, copied over the new data just to be safe, the system loads just fine and takes me to the song list, but it does not show any of my new songs. Example, it shows only a handful of NIN songs, when I added about 42. It doesn’t look like it loaded any new songs.
@Shroud, I had purchased a lot of DLC back in the day (a lot of which doesn’t work now unfortunately) so maybe that’s why the number is so high.
!Alternity, so just merge less songs and give it a whirl? I guess I wasn’t sure if the load count would change.
Also, the old video for ConTools mentioned making packs to assist with loading? Is that a thing still? Once the songs are working, I have a few other questions.
Before this, I had 351 songs.
I copied the 2,016 folders and songs.dta file (now 4,925 K:cool: and put them in the “/dev_hdd0/game/BLUS30463/USRDIR/HMX0756/songs” folder on my PS3.
I rebooted and loaded the game, still 351 songs only now it gets stuck here there https://photos.app.goo.gl/URJZRvBzQjTrrXD49
Also, to Alternity’s point it’s nice that the “Merge Songs” option is grayed out now However it is grayed out and checked. This makes it look like the songs file is there and you can’t NOT merge. It should be grayed out and UNchecked.
The “PS3 Convert” option needs an option to ignore periods. If you use the “Batch Renamer”, it will add periods where they belong like “Black Sabbath – N.I.B”. As a result the file is skipped in the “PS3 Convert” option because it (and windows) thinks the file has an extension of “.B”
My Little Pony – Equestria Girls

OK, I more confused now. The “Merged Songs” folder has only the “songs.dta” file I created in it.
When I convert my files from the “CONs” folder, using the “PS3 Converter” button, it puts my files in the “All Songs” folder.
What step am I missing?
Creating a file and changing it’s extension is not difficult. I even said I was able to do so. I was expected the file size to change from 0 KB to literally anything else after the conversion process completed, otherwise what is the point of this file?
My question was in regards to Alternity’s comment
The dta file sits besides the folders.
So we copy the entire contents of “C3CONToolsv400ps3All Songs” and the “songs.dta” file from “C3CONToolsv400ps3Merged Songs” into the “/dev_hdd0/game/BLUS30463/USRDIR/HMX0756/songs/” on the PS3?
How does that address ensuring existing songs on the PS3 such as DLC are still indexed correctly?
