Unfortunately I do not have the patience for pro keys. So I have settled for normal keys.

I did not author pro keys. Magma has a setting that will automatically generate pro keys based on regular keys, which will not be nearly as acurate as actually authoring them yourself. You can chart the pro keys in the same file you chart all of the other instruments in reaper

I have finally charted the vocals and overdrive sections. You can find the custom officially posted. Thanks again for all your help!

I have taken my first swing at vocals. I have uploaded a video of about 30s of the song that I have done thus far (have not finished lyrics, except for non-pitched notes). I have also uploaded the reaper file. Feedback would be greatly appreciated before I continue. Here is the link again.

After much pain with trying to get CAT to work, using various versions of Python and Reaper, I eventually gave up and decided to learn it at a later date. I have uploaded the next version of the song with manual reduction to my drive folder. Thanks for your help anyways, though I was not able to quite recreate the issue that was in the forum you sent.

I am now attempting to chart lower difficulties. Do you guys have any suggestions? I tried using CAT for 5 lane reductions, but the button simply crashes the command window when I try to use it.

Last Post for the day for me. I Finished compiling, played it a few times through (and fixed some bugs) and have now uploaded the CON file to my google drive.

    Here is the link again

Also Fixed. Turns out sometime you just need to dig through other peoples problems for a bit till you find your answer.

After a bit of digging, I figured out that I needed to change up the Event midi and Beat midi to allow the song to have notes past the default point. However, it still complains about not finding a track authored for keys, and that there are not given Real Key ranges:

ERROR: MIDI Compiler: (MIDI FILE): Could not find MIDI track authored for keys, possibly due to incorrect track name event
ERROR: MIDI Compiler: (PART REAL_KEYS): Difficulty expert: No keyboard ranges

Thanks for the feedback. I have finished the keys and now I want to compile it into a con file. I have tried to do some reading on Magma, but the tutorial that TrojanNemo put out does not seem to be enough for me. It says I have an incorrect author ID (already contacted an admin about that after following an old thread) and have turned off the numerical option in Magma for now. I have given magma all the needed information (mute stereo tracks, a .wav all at the same bitrate) But it won’t compile, and simply freezes at “Starting…”. I tested the midi, and it is giving me errors about drum difficulty (to fix later) and 4 critical errors:
ERROR: MIDI Compiler: (PART DRUMS): MIDI events at [92:4:120] after the end event at [92:4:000]

ERROR: MIDI Compiler: (BEAT): MIDI events at [92:4:120] after the end event at [92:4:000]
ERROR: MIDI Compiler: (MIDI FILE): Could not find MIDI track authored for keys, possibly due to incorrect track name event
ERROR: MIDI Compiler: (PART REAL_KEYS): Difficulty expert: No keyboard ranges
I am not quite sure what to do here. If it is any help, I exported the midi as a multi-track midi and kept everything as default.

Good to know thanks. After doing a first pass of the keys, I noticed that there are significant gaps where there is no synth, or I can’t really pretend that there is. Should these stay, or should I have the keys follow a slightly different melody in the track? Or are the keys even worth including?

Thank you again for your feedback. When I first looked over the guitar, I could not see the issue, but shifting some sections forward 1/16th note seemed to make it feel more accurate. Good catch!

I am not sure what you mean by singles for the chord progression, but I did notice upon another pass that some of the chords were definitely higher/lower than I had charted relatively speaking.

As for solo, I just have a single long note across the entire solo part, is that not how it is supposed to be?

Yes I plan to only do 5 lane keys, since pro keys is a bit intimidating at the moment. I have a pretty good ear, but not good enough to distinguish actual notes very well. I will probably look more into a tutorial for that later in the process.

I will read into magma compiling more for clarification on exporting the midi and audio separately from reaper. Thanks for the heads up.

I really appreciate the constructive criticism. I will probably post updated videos or the reaper file this evening.

Thank you very much for taking the time to give feedback. I was wondering about the toms section if I had them too close, and after your comment and looking at it again, it looks far better now. I added the pro notes, which I had not done, thinking it would be a lot more work (its not) and added the 16th note gap or made it just a single note on guitar and bass where needed. I am not familiar with how to use CAT, in fact I have never exported a midi before so that is something I will need to look into (pointers with that regard would be greatly appreciated). Would you also Mind pointing out timestamps in the video as to where I missed charting guitar notes?

As for authoring, I know that Magma converts the midi and several other files into a CON file. Do you need a separate .wav file for the preview, or is the .wav file you select the audio track for the song? I assume the audio is saved with the midi, but I don’t know. In addition, when it comes to authoring, how much help should a community member contribute before I should add them as a co-author (BornGamerRob for example)?

Lastly, I plan to chart keys next (using the synth-like audio part of the song), should I chart it just like guitar and bass? Or should I have more 3-note chords. My friend and I play guitar and drums respectively so I don’t know the best practices for charting keys.

Thank you guys again for your help thus far.

Alright then. I have some videos for Guitar, Bass and Drums. Here is the link to the Google Drive folder with them. Thanks for your help getting started on the forums.

Thanks for your help thus far anyways. I will just chart my first pass for all sections, thencompile the CON file and post it.
