Got a small update to make. First off, TheWay123 and I have officially taken over IcePickle’s Guitar/Band Hero DS project over on FoF, and are folding it into Project Pipedream. Some of the already completed GH3 songs will hopefully be easy to convert and release with the On Tour charts added, along with new solo and Overdrive markers making them more RB2-3 custom friendly. I’ve (very slowly) been making strives to learn charting to help speed along the conversion process, though we could still use help charting B/D/V/K on a lot of the songs that never were released on newer games in either RB or GH.

 

We may consider releasing a couple tracks here, though with the case of already existing charts, murky state of allowing cover versions, and such, I’m not sure how many will make it here. You can find all of the released songs so far on TheWay’s GH3 thread over on the FoF forums though.

 

With that news out of the way, I’m slowly revamping the DS stems with brand new version 3 mixes. I’ve reluctantly decided to drop the naas support, due to it making the tracks sound washed out for the ‘stereo’ presence, and taking about 3 times as long to work with the audio. I’ve decided to convert everything to stereo and use very specific panning for each track to emulate a stereo presence without dropping the sound quality. I’ve also been experimenting with brightening the audio to make it sound less like 14khz mono oggs, and something a tiny bit closer to the mp3s of GH3. I can’t work miracles, but it at least sounds miles better than the previous mixes. (sorry if they sound a little too bright.)

I can’t chart to save my life (even after reading all the guides) but having a GUI-esque tool for assisting with venues would be a great thing to have if I ever reached that part of the mid creation. I could see it helping teach me what does what, and how and where to place it (a lot better than doing a lot of reading and forgetting half of it as I work on it) and how each cue works so that I could eventually start doing it manually.

 

At least in theory anyways.

 

This might be pretty cool to see happen if it ever got picked up.

Welp, THeWay and I managed to get a hold of a PKG file of The End Begins to Rock from GH3 on the PS3, and we are desperately trying to access the mid file for charting purposes, but I can’t begin to figure out the KLicence stuff, or how to even use the bruteforce tool or anything. I’ve asked around, but was told the people of this thread might be the most helpful. So we have the EDATs if anyone can help us extract the mid. Just shoot me a PM and I’ll share the link to them. (Since I don’t imagine I can post it here in the thread.)

Have you fixed the mid files so that the BH DS charts aren’t a bunch of Hex Editor type files? I really wanna see if my attempt at charting the songs is on par or not.

Been playing Skyrim a lot lately (and fighting with my retarded smartphone to type correctly).

I think that will be TheWay123 and/or Mr. Ice Pickle that will be handling the chart conversion to mids with the BH DS files.

First up, I wanted to better announce the project The–Way and I have teamed up on over on the FoF forums. He and I decided to dig up the pre-band GH games, including the DS games, and work a little on them to bring them up to full-band glory. Yes, a lot of them we already have shiny RB or newer GH versions of, but we wanted to preserve and update the originals. We want to add everything from (pro)-drums, solos and trills, new star power, vocal charts and the whole she-bang. Heck, if we had help from others, we’d love to add pitched vocals and harmonies, keys, and even pro-guitar/bass, and especially bring them to RB3 as customs. You can read more about it by clicking on our logo.

Secondly, I felt bad for not posting anything and promising a huge update. Unfortunately its still a long ways off. So, I decided to release a little something to make up for it.

Hey everybody. I’m still alive and kicking. Sorry for the lack of updates for so long, but I’ve been working on all sorts of different things and have been a bit busy for the past 3+ months.

 

I’ve teamed up with The–Way over on the FoF forums to work on a little project you’ve probably heard me mention in passing before. So far it’s kind of limited to Phase Shift at the moment, but at some point maybe they could be converted to RB con.

A followup on this…

 

I’ve started playing with “White Room” and “Magic Man”, and the stem levels are REALLY quiet (I’m talking below -12dB range). While it’s no trouble at all to make them louder, the process represents a loss of fidelity and possibility of increased noise.

 

If this is how they came out of the rip, then please disregard, but if this attenuation was accidentally introduced in the mastering process then I wanted you to be aware of it.

EDIT: On closer inspection, it’s even lower: peaking around -21dB on bass/rhythm parts

Mmm, that would be my aggressive attenuation level tweaking before the doing any mastering. Like you said that could introduce that noise. After dealing with the extremely loud early guitar hero stems, I got it into my head that such loud source stems needed greatly reduced volume before any editing. I’ll try working with a -10 or -15 db base instead of -25 db on future RR songs. That should reduce the noise introduction hopefully.

 

I should have mentioned that it is a rough cut, but it is synched-up to where it sounds good (though you can hear the lead vocalist go off pitch here and there). About the only reason why I downloaded it is because I love The Buzzcocks.

 

A custom chart? I’m currently working on many of them; I may eventually try my hand at this one as well. Right now, my computer is acting like a retard (that and I just got out of jail where I had spent the last 102 days – don’t ask – it is all bullshit).
