Would there theoretically be any way to augment the lipsync from dryvox the way Harmonix does it? You said that MagmaCompiler has extra features for various expressions and such – would it be possible to do anything to trigger any of this manually? Or, rather, would it be possible for *us* to do anything with it.

Harmonix has charted horns to guitar in absence of a real guitar chart, even after RB3. I say go for it.

Note that occasionally, like at 0:56, the chart does represent guitar, but still, the chart largely focuses on the horns.

I actually never knew about this song being a thing available for Rock Band DLC. I love it!! Definitely unorthodox charting, which I love ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_emot-3.gif” />

 

As for the OP, I think it really depends. I haven’t heard the actual song in forever, but if there’s a defined guitar part during any section of the song, that should go to guitar. Any other time, though, and it’s really up to you. There’s a lot of factors to consider: whether there’s any guitar going on while the sax is playing or not, whether there’s a piano part at the same time or not and if that piano part is interesting at all… when it comes to stuff like this, I feel like it’s really subjective.

 

Bottom line, though, whatever is the most fun to play should be charted. Just go with that! Do what you think people will have the most fun playing.

I started with drums, and god dammit drums are the only thing I can actually say I’m good at (other than Vocals I guess???) BUT I find playing Keys really fun, and having the 5th instrument in Rock Band really opens up the door to a lot of cool and interesting songs that wouldn’t otherwise be in Rock Band!!

 

Notice I said Keys there, though. I can’t play Pro Keys. These are drumming hands, and they do not understand anything more than five buttons at a time in a rhythm game, let alone 25.

You are focused on the music and flaming me. You have lost sight of the fact that most people have thrown away their plastic guitars and are moving on to the next Gen. VERY few people even have the equipment to play this DLC.

Well, considering it’s a game about music, the music itself plays a pretty big role. You do raise a good point about the hardware being unavailable, though. That’s probably why they hesitated to chart keys for the new songs.

Nope, I’m practical. HMX is first and foremost a business. This doesn’t appear to make business sense.

Neither does releasing ultra-expensive time-sensitive DLC that just happens to be from a band that was big in the 70’s or something. What DOES make sense from a business perspective is releasing relatively new tracks from popular bands that young people are familiar with & identify with. Sure, it’s not fuckin’ Led Zeppelin, but it’s a pretty decent comeback. Besides, buy this stuff now, and then there’s a chance that Zep will follow. Nobody buys this, and there’s zero chance outside of customs.

Never even considered this possibility: releasing less than monumental DLC in a genre that the vast majority of the gaming community considers dead and on gaming platforms that are in their twilight. Makes no sense. Now an RB3 online port for next-gen systems I might understand…

You’re boring. Also, Rock Band was never really ever about the “gaming community”, because it’s a party game!! I dunno about you, but I know a lot of people that would flip absolute shit over Arctic Monkeys being in Rock Band, and plenty of people in love with Avenged Sevenfold!! And I don’t even have to say anything about Dave Grohl because he’s ubiquitous in rock music!!! I feel like people on this forum and in their charts tend to forget that it’s about having fun, first and foremost.

 

Anyways, this whole announcement made me start looking through my old posts on the Harmonix forums, and I found this old post that I still agree with on there, and that I think a few people should pay attention to. It’s only talking about rhythm on bass, buuuuuut…….

The inclusion of All Falls Down has me feeling a mixture of extreme happiness and jealousy.

 

The jealousy part is mostly because someone beat me to getting Yeezy in Rock Band.

 

Now all I’ve got is Aphex Twin… Time to put in some extra work on that, I guess…
