Time for a lesson in rock history! Have you heard of New Romanticism? Well, now you have. This particular style infused this week’s new wave band with a certain je nais se quoi, which you can now relive in Rock Band! Almost all of these songs were top 10 hits in the UK, where the band found most of its success — “True” was the only big single in the US. Give Spandau Ballet a shot even if you’re not already a fan. You have some great music waiting for you.
farottone writes, “Spandau Ballet is probably less popular in the US than Duran Duran but they released a good number of great songs and a handful of instant classics. True and Gold are probably the most recognisable tracks all over the world: True is a very catchy slow song, Gold is a fast paced dissonant pop gem with very engaging pro keys. Through the Barricades is a classic pop-rock ballad with lots of guitar arpeggios while How Many Lies is another slow hit with one of the wittiest short drums fill in my book. Finally, I’ll Fly for You is a lounge-ish track that will satisfy the Sade-loving crowd. No song is challenging on any instrument (except for Through the Barricades on guitar) but they are all great fun to play and an absolute blast to sing solo and with harmonies. On that note, Tony Hadley had/has a beautiful timbre and a nice extension, so stretch your vocal chords for these songs! This pack should be a treat for all the new wave-craving players out there.”
See you next Friday!
A brilliant week this week, thanks so much! It’s about time these 80’s icons were on Rock Band! 🙂
Awesome release! This is the same thing that happened with A-Ha. One big album in the US and disappeared to Europe after that. Bring on Cry Wolf.
Great week! Never heard of em’ before this, but I knew True and the other songs were great.
