Outside of last year’s anniversary blowout, it’s rare to see a week where every last song is a full multitrack, but here we are! Courtesy of RBN veteran Arcanon, this week sees us diving into collaborations and entries in Wikipedia’s “associated acts” table. You’ve probably heard of Linkin Park, but some might recognize Fort Minor as a side project of the band’s rapper, Mike Shinoda; and Broken Equilibrium and Filtered by the Sky are both…well, here, let’s let Arcanon explain it:
Good morning plastic rockers! It looks like I’ve got this week all to myself. (Well, almost. Thanks Pearlized Pistol for your help on one of this week’s tracks!) This is quite a new experience. This week I’ve got two packs of songs for you that are quite special to me for various reasons, and both feature bands with shared members.
First, I’ve got a Linkin Park/Fort Minor three-pack for you guys! Linkin Park may be no strangers to Rock Band, but Mike Shinoda’s side project Fort Minor is making its debut today! All three songs feature Shinoda’s excellent rapping, and are all songs I’ve personally wanted to see released on Rock Band for a long time. “Bleed It Out,” which you may recognize from Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, is one of the few songs off of Minutes to Midnight that kept the rap-rock style fans remembered from their previous albums, and is just filled to the top with pure energy. “A Light That Never Comes” off of Recharged, on the other hand, is a significant departure from that style that sees the band embracing a very electronic sound. In my opinion, they really pulled it off in this song, and by doing so they’ve given me a sweet dubstep bass solo to work with. It may be different from what I’m used to, but it does sound awesome. Finally, “Remember the Name” is the second single off of Fort Minor’s debut album The Rising Tied, which showcases Shinoda’s rapping skills alongside that of the guys from Styles of Beyond, who have collaborated frequently with Fort Minor. It’s the first Fort Minor song I ever heard, and it led to me buying the album, which I highly recommend. Lots of great talent on that record, and very meaningful songs too. All three songs are very well known, and if you haven’t somehow heard of them before, you’re in for a treat this week!
For my other pack, I am bringing you three songs from Broken Equilibrium’s debut self-titled album and two from Filtered by the Sky’s self-titled debut, all which very nearly made it onto RBN! Broken Equilibrium was the very first band that trusted Chart Toppers Authoring with releasing songs on Rock Band Network back when we were still getting our feet wet and I’ve always been forever thankful to them for that. We released “Epitome of Misery” and “November” on RBN, and later “Culling the Weak” after Rock Band 3 came out. They appear to have a bit of a reputation for releasing songs with easy double-bass charts to practice on, and I’m going to shatter that right now. “Devour” and “Etchings” are intense songs with heavy drum work and fast-paced instrumentation, much more difficult than anything seen by them before. “Etchings” has one of the sweetest bass solos I’ve ever heard, so bassists will LOVE that. (Two bass solos in one week? WHAT?) “Separation” is more similar to “November” in that it’s one of the slower songs off the album, but it is very fun to sing and the drums are no bore either!
Broken Equilibrium is long broken up, but two of their members (one of whom is still with the band) went on to form Filtered by the Sky, which boasts quite a different sound. Former vocalist and band founder Courtney has an enchanting voice that powers these two songs. On “Last Goodbye,” she is the driving force for the song, with former vocalist/cellist (and former Broken Equilibrium member) TJ making a short cameo. On “Where You Are,” the two perform a full-on duet. Vocalists will absolutely love these songs, and Rock Band could always do with more female fronted bands/songs.
Oh, and the best part? Everything has multitracks. Yay multitracks!
This week should have a little something for everyone. I hope you all enjoy these songs as much as I’ve enjoyed working on them.
We’ve also got a buttload of Rock Band Harmonies Project upgrades today, with 20 new harmony upgrades and 31 RBN1 Pro Drums fixes! Harmonies include ALL of the AC/DC Track Pack and the amazing Talking Heads 01, along with several others, so check it out! The full list of upgrades is at the end of this post, and you can download them at the RBHP website.
Also, as a side note, Dailymotion embeds work again! Yay.
See you next Friday!
