I am kind of surprised at my lack of enthusiasm for RB4. I was waiting for it for so long, that I think the time just passed for me. I do still plan on getting it though, but it’s going to feel a bit bittersweet.
I have grave doubts about whether the songs I want the most have even a slim hope of making the setlist. At least customs give me a chance to get those songs in the game. I don’t want to ‘blame’ customs; I think it’s just my bad luck in what I like.
Hopefully the awesome features and kickass setlist will be enough to change my mind.
April 2, 2015 at 2:16 pm #441898I have a One and my previous DLC was on the 360 which is great, so I don’t have to worry about that. My biggest concern is HMX making sure that legacy devices will work. I have Ions that I spent a lot of money upgrading; I better be able to use those.
Keys are fun, but they were in no way a deal breaker. I’ve known how to play the piano since I was younger, and my drive for keys in RB was never that high for some reason. Felt different playing on there, and the interface just didn’t sit well with me.
April 2, 2015 at 3:22 pm #441903I’m not that excited about RB4. Sure, it’ll be nice playing my song library on new hardware with improved graphics but I feel RB4 is a huge step backwards creatively. I can understand not continuing to author pro guitar and keys going forward but to not support it even for existing songs is a huge slap in the face for players like me who spent $320 on the Squier w/ MPA, not to mention the premium price for upgrades. I don’t own an Xbox One and I’m not sure RB4 alone will be justification enough for a purchase if I can get the same experience from a game released in 2008.
April 2, 2015 at 3:25 pm #441904I’m wondering about the people quitting the franchise because of keys and how they came to the conclusion. The feeling is why going to RB4 which is the same of previous but with somes features deleted.
This feeling is present because, we don’t know what this 4st episode will give us new, exept 1080p/60fps (wich is not a real argument to change game and system) and of course new songs. But I’m sure they will surprise us positively and we will change our mind at this moment.
April 2, 2015 at 3:31 pm #441906The feeling is why going to RB4 which is the same of previous but with somes features deleted. But it’s not the same. That’s the point. You guys hear “no keys and no pro g/b” and you’re assuming we’re back to RB2. What if they massively improve the vocals and harmonies experience? What if they massively improve the online experience and make it worthwhile? We don’t know enough at this point. They’re not going to port RB2 and call it RB4, because for that they could have just ported RB3. Have some hope that they know what they’re doing with their own product ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
April 2, 2015 at 4:49 pm #441911We don’t know enough at this point. That’s exactly what I say. And until they announce the new features and improvements, the only thing we know is a regression. But I have no doubt that they will be great things, but without knowing what, it is difficult to be excited.
What if…In French, we have an expression : “With ‘If’ we could put Paris in a bottle”
April 2, 2015 at 4:56 pm #441912but without knowing what, it is difficult to be excited. So instead of be excited for what it could be, you’re not excited because of what you know it’s NOT going to be. It’s the other side of the same coin. I’m saying look on the bright side. Hope for something great. Don’t already give up on it because of the lack of keys/pro g/b.

To be fair, it IS the thread for people who are NOT excited about RB4. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif”>
April 2, 2015 at 5:02 pm #441914Bah. Details.
April 2, 2015 at 5:26 pm #441917I am reasonably excited but i think it sucks that the game lacks keys.
April 2, 2015 at 5:36 pm #441918Let me be another passenger on the “nope” train.
It’s not entirely Harmonix’s fault but I am also one of the many that is all invested with songs and instruments with Xbox360 and have no intentions of starting from scratch (no desire to buy an XboxOne).
The game could be mind blowing with graphics, songs, features, etc. but it is not worth the price of the new admission. As much as I love the series, I will be stuck in the past playing my current library and customs until there is a major price cut years down the road.
April 2, 2015 at 7:34 pm #441922Keys are fun, but they were in no way a deal breaker. I’ve known how to play the piano since I was younger, and my drive for keys in RB was never that high for some reason. Felt different playing on there, and the interface just didn’t sit well with me.Agreed 100% about keys. When they were announced I was excited and pre-ordered the keys bundle, but it just never did it for me.
April 2, 2015 at 10:36 pm #441931I’m wondering about the people quitting the franchise because of keys and how they came to the conclusion. As a drummer and singer, I’m very much looking forward to Rock Band 4. The fact that we’ll still have pro drums and harmonies makes me a happy camper.
But, my excitement is tempered by the fact that I’m losing my favorite instrument. I wrote a couple of long, rambling posts about it in the official forums, which you can read here and here, if you’re into long, rambling posts (login may be required). The slightly shorter summaries are, losing keys hurts because those of us who prefer keys are getting pushed back to the back of the bus after finally getting a chance to prove keys are as integral to rock music (and country, and most especially modern pop) as drums and guitars and flamboyant singers. Losing keys also hurts because, for all we’re being teased about RB4 having new features, it still feels like a step back, because it seems that Harmonix is deviating from their path of musical education. Every game in the Harmonix catalog up to Rock Band 3 and Fantasia: Music Evolved seemed to place a greater emphasis on not only interacting with music, but learning what it really takes to create music, from keeping the rhythm to playing an instrument to assembling that perfect mix. With RB4, the spotlight on learning isn’t there any more, at least not any more than it was already in previous games. It’s understandable why, but it’s still a darn shame.
Maybe the shortest TL;DR version is, some of us want RB4 to be a sequel to RB3, not just a sequel to RB2.

I don’t play much keys, but I love the music associated with them. No keys likely means no ELP, or Supertramp, or Genesis… (Not that we NEED any more Genesis (Thank You Farottone, et al) )
Well, you get the idea.

I half agree with this, but it’s a double edged sword at the same time. Yes, it sucks that they will probably be tuning away from more key leading/heavy songs, but it’s also less of a pigeon hole as well. Remember, the DID do enough key songs during the DLC of RB1 and 2, or the audience wouldn’t have realized they wanted a key instrument. We had a lot of key strong songs, it just wasn’t the first thought.
The other half of the sword came from after RB3 was release. The setlist for RB3 basically had to ALL have keys, to promote their new instrument. The first year of DLC after RB3 was a lot of key songs… because they had this new instrument that needed songs.
I enjoyed getting a variety of songs, but I feel like post RB3 was filled with Key heavy songs on purpose, which limited the selection. Towards the end they started fading away and releasing weeks without key songs, but the point is still there.
Without keys, we get a BROADER selection and still some key songs, but you will realize you are missing keys. With keys, you get the extra instrument and can have more key leading songs… but it will also narrow the song selection field to appease key players. Works both ways. As a drummer mainly and guitarist on the side, I’m happy for RB4. In the end I don’t care what they do… I just want score duel back lol
