Slapping ideas here for a couple of packs this year so I won’t forget ’em:

      Canada Day stuff:

      July Talk – The Garden

July Talk – Guns + Ammunition

      Arkells – Cynical Bastards

      Election Day stuff:

      Frank Turner – 1933

Bad Religion – The Empire Strikes First

The Offspring – Change the World

      ‘Merican Dream stuff:

      Hard-Fi – Suburban Knights

      Oh. Hi there.

This thread is for providing details about custom songs for Rock Band 3 on which I am currently working. More importantly, it will function as a classified ad for freelance instrument charters interested in contributing to these songs. I will provide the vocals and venue work (and maybe more), and you can donate the other components necessary to make the custom complete and worthy of publication. Full-band or bust!

As a general rule, all songs will have as many bells and whistles as I can provide and/or elicit. This includes dryvox lip sync, instrument reductions, and custom venue work. If you need an example of my vocal charts, dryvox, and venue work, you can check out my first custom here.

“That is the greatest custom I’ve ever played! I’m dying to work with you!”

      Flattery will get you everywhere.

      “Do I need prior experience?”

Honestly, a bit would help. I’m still somewhat green myself. But basic experience with Reaper would be nice. I think it’s more important that you have an understanding of and/or feeling for how a real-life instrument translates into a Rock Band chart. Personally, I do not. That’s why I chart vocals

      “Are you taking requests?”

Sort of. If you visit my own requests thread, you’ll certainly see something there you find interesting. I’m all about prioritizing those songs that have the interest of players and authors.

“Why should I work with you?”

I have plenty of experience working with other authors, and I’ve slithered my slimy tentacles into the depths of this community. This place is all about back-scratching; you chart this for me, I’ll chart that for you. With vocals it’s a bit more difficult/miserable/time-consuming, but since I don’t know the first thing about, for example, drums, I might have to make some unequal trades. We all have strengths and weaknesses, and if we work on what we enjoy most, we’re more likely to be happy, productive charters that provide a musical bounty for the database.

I would help but gotta add some Cage The Elephant to the database. Maybe some other time.

I had put my pencil mark on those but if you want them, fine by me! I’ll make Jedi some new tempo maps instead.

Look at you boys, fighting over me…

The miscommunication is my fault. I haven’t updated the post. [Edit] The post is more accurate now. [/Edit] In addition to that fumble, I told Prez I’d contact yaniv and see if he was interested in doing drums for Post Break-up Sex, but I haven’t yet. Prez said he’d do it if yavin wasn’t interested. And now Ryan is interested in that one too… which is fine by me! However…

AJ can’t do drums for Runaway Train until March, so if one of you wants to “steal” that one from him, that would be very helpful. That way both can get done and I don’t have to wait

Prez, you’d be proud… I realized the tempo map for Runaway Train was really out of whack from the middle to the end so I redid it from the beginning! Of course, I had to then re-tweak all of my vocals from August… however, I’ve learned so much since then that they’re way, way more detailed now. It was a chore, but that song holds a special place in my heart and deserves the love. I’m gonna get the bass down now.

Thanks for all of your interest, everybody!

                      Just noticed this

                      Soul Asylum – Runaway Train

I have had this on the go for a long while

                      Bass is done

Had just started work on guitar.

Drums which are not my forte, I could do a rough draft & someone with superior skills could look it over.

You are welcome to any & all files I have for this!!

I am off to work but let me know & I will get in touch later today.

Very cool! I’m not surprised to hear somebody was working on making a full-band version… that’s long overdue! The guitar part I’m using is courtesy of some dude named Kassu, as I said above. I haven’t even played it or watched it in the RBN plugin yet, but I assume it’s not too shabby (although the tempo map was, whoops). Fingers crossed.

I would be curious to compare our bass parts! I am new at this and still want to learn how others do things. I’m pretty satisfied with it, but I’ll gladly look at what you did and make it the best of both worlds (unless we’re brothers from another mother and charted the same part :o )

I have converted a few of Kassu’s charts before. They were pretty good. I do see Beard also has Kassu’s guitar version in the DB. I will send you my files later today. It has a really good midi maybe Ryan would like to have a look at the drum part.

I’ve finally played Kassu’s guitar chart for Runaway Train and yeah, it’s nice! It can be tricky at times, too. I dig it.

Spindoctor, I got your bass MIDI and it’s strikingly similar to what I charted, with minor differences in some parts. Thanks! This is good! It confirms I’m not awful at charting bass. I’ll reconcile the differences later today and after that, the song is basically ready to be published… without keys. Just a few more venue tests to go (ugh) and some rudimentary questions to have answered and I’m good to go. Actually, I guess here and now is as fine a time as any to ask those questions…

In Magma, under the audio tab, the drum mix is set to kit. But there are three other options. And I know nothing about drums. I assume kit is fine… but why? Brain not drum.

Also in Magma, drum kit SFX is set to Hard Rock Kit (default). Same as above… I know nothing of drums. Is this the kit I should select? If yes, why?

Also, and I’m not sure if this is a Wii-only issue… I’ve tried to sync lighting keys using the [next] key to occur on beat at the beginning of measures, but the lights always seem to change just after when I want them to. I assume this is working as designed… does that mean it’s normal to have to place lighting changes very shortly before when you want them to happen? I read that that applies for the spotlight, but I’m not sure if it does for normal lights. I’d hate to be tweaking this for/on my Wii and having it throw off the Xbox version…

Oh, and does [directed_crowd] seem broken more often than not? Or is this a Wii issue? It’s driving me mad. It just doesn’t fire! No other directed events are near it… just just won’t go. I’ve now decided to leave it in place, but I’ve put a non-directed event stacked on top of it. Maybe it’ll work for you Xboxers…

Finally, a poll: What genre and subgenre should this be? I went with Alternative for both, but I’m unsure if that affects animations drastically…

If anybody is interesting in adding a keys part, great! But I am not going to delay a release for long because I (and many others!) have already waited long enough for full-band Runaway Train to hit the database. Everything-but-keys is basically full-band to me. Keys can always be added in an update!

Yes, keep it set to Kit and put your mute audio file in the Kit location. The reason that it allows for other settings is for people who use multitracks, so until you chart a song with those you will not have to worry about this.

Well this one really depends on the song. These are the sounds your drum kit makes in-game (like during classic fills or before you get any notes). Hard Rock is default and sounds fine for most songs, but you may need to test the others out.

                                Strange, that shouldn’t be I wouldn’t think.

It does seem broken more often than not.
