I’ve added a keys upgrade for “The Camera Eye” to my branch. I had to cheat this one slightly, so sharp-eyed players will notice a smidgen of overcharting. Several existing unison bonuses were in the middle of long sustained keyboard notes, which meant the keys couldn’t really participate without something changing. The options were to either move the other instruments’ overdrive sections, or break up certain long sustained keys notes into shorter ones. I figure mucking with the existing charts is frowned upon for the RBHP, so I went with the second option. The resulting chart shouldn’t offend anyone too much, and it does mean keys players will have to be a little more on their toes when playing those sections. Consider it an added challenge!

If “The Camera Eye” was a bit overcharted, this one’s a bit undercharted. Most of the keys heard in the song are played by an arpegiator, and most humans who aren’t named Rick Wakeman can’t do what an arpegiator can. Sometimes trying to keep up with a machine can be kinda fun, but most of the time it’s just an uncomfortable chore. Originally H3ADShOt3 and I worked on a chart that had all the arpegiator notes intact, but I’ve since thinned them out into something actually playable and fun. Don’t worry, the chart is still a pretty hefty challenge in those parts, requiring you not to lose your concentration and keep your fingers on the rhythm!
There’s also another spot here where I split one or two long keyboard notes into shorter notes, so that the keys could join in with the rest of the band on a unison bonus. Keep an eye out for it!
March 23, 2017 at 5:40 am #483095I’ll add these to the spreadsheet.

March 24, 2017 at 5:38 am #483138Keys upgrade added for “Red Barchetta”. Just a couple more to go before I get back to songs not by Rush!
Here’s yet another long note broken in two for the sake of a unison bonus, but it’s only one this time. Also, medium and easy pro keys medium share the same chart, as do medium and easy 5-lane keys, and hard and expert 5-lane keys. I don’t believe in knocking down difficulty artificially, and if the higher chart still follows all the rules for a lower difficulty, so be it. Harmonix did it with the keys parts for “Helen Wheels”, so I figure I can do it here.
March 25, 2017 at 2:56 pm #483191Keys upgrade added for “Witch Hunt (Part III of Fear)”. With this the entire Moving Pictures album has keys upgrades. Only “Limelight” has nothing to play, and that’s only because someone (Harmonix or the band or the record label, I don’t know) didn’t include the keys in the song’s stem collection.
If you’re not interested in keys and are somehow still reading this anyway, I also added an entry for “Witch Hunt” in the Song Info Fixes folder, with vocal tonic bits.
March 26, 2017 at 12:11 am #483209Nice to see it building up. I’ll help any way I can.

Why not chart the cover?
April 6, 2017 at 12:49 am #483639Why not chart the cover?
I could do that, and I may do that before it’s over with, but right now the covers are very low on my list. Since only keyboard players would benefit, I doubt even then the song would get played often in a group setting. But we shall see.
In the meantime, I’ve added a keys upgrade for “21 Guns” to my fork. Thanks to StackOverflow0x for starting this one and helping polish it up. He and I have others in the works, so stay tuned!
Note, “21 Guns” is one of a handful of songs that have upgrades on the actual Rock Band 3 disc. The official download files for “21 Guns” do not have harmonies, not even the Green Day Rock Band Plus export file. Consequently the harmonies are supplied by the game disc (either the RB3 disc or the GDRB disc, depending on which game you’re playing). This could pose a problem to people who add the keys upgrade using the RBHP process, similar to how problems arise when the RBHP process is used on pre-RB3 songs with pro strings upgrades. I can’t say for sure because I haven’t yet tried the RBHP process on “21 Guns” myself. I can say that there are other means to add the keys upgrade to the song, and those means do play nice with the on-disc harmonies upgrade. I suspect explaining the alternative is a little beyond what would be kosher to talk about here, so I’ll leave that as an exercise for the reader. We might all get lucky and the RBHP process works fine anyway.
April 6, 2017 at 2:55 pm #483660Excellent choice. Thanks! I bundle my upgrades by hand so I can’t really confirm if this will play nice with the normal method.

I’ll warn the keyboard players now, there’s a blistering little section that will make people wonder what kind of sadist would chart such a thing. I decided the section was short enough to fall just barely on the side of “fun challenge” and not on the side of “painful exercise in futility”. I’m pretty sure those nimble-fingered enough can play it one-handed. For the rest of us, there’s no shame in mastering an extra bit of coordination between two hands. I’ve even made sure the song can still be gold-starred, barely, without a perfect play of that section.
April 28, 2017 at 8:47 pm #484512Life is a zoo… happy to see the fork, though. If I get the cycles again maybe we can make it ‘formal’ (that or I can pass RBHP off!). ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif”>
In all honesty, if you want that fork to become the lead I’ll change my links to point to it. I’m way too tied up with other gaming-related things and non-gaming related things to feel confident that I can commit (as if the last year and change wasn’t a hint) and I haven’t booted up much in the way of RB anything as a result.
April 29, 2017 at 12:50 am #484527Awesome to see you back Espher. I’m hoping you find the time to release another RBHP update sometime this year. All those drum fixes to official DLC songs that I submitted should cover most of the major issues on Pro Drums. Would also be cool to see all thee Rush keys upgrades get implemented.

Video preview for anyone interested.
Also FujiSkunk, (assuming I did it right) I sent a pull request to your fork for the last 2 upgrades I did.

I believe I successfully accepted your request, so both the “Let’s Dance” and “Eye of the Tiger” upgrades should be in my fork now. Thank you for those. It’s nice to have everything in one spot, and it seems this might be that spot, because…

Like Sideshow said, it’s great to hear from you, espher, especially with such kind words! It’s maybe a teensy bit sad to see you’ve been distracted by other shiny things, especially at the same time Farrotone and others are stepping back, but no one can fault anyone for sticking to what they find fun and fulfilling.
I’ve PM’ed you for some other discussion.

Sideshow, if you’d like, I can look at those drum fixes and then add them to my fork for the time being.

a littlea lot of help from StackOverflow0x, we now have keys upgrades for six more No Doubt songs: “Bathwater”, “Don’t Speak”, “It’s My Life”, “Just a Girl”, “Spiderwebs” and “Sunday Morning”! All six charts are pretty fun to play, in my humble opinion. Some fans may recall that the keys solo in “Just a Girl” was charted to guitar. We decided not to try and replicate that for actual keys, but don’t worry, there is still another keys part that we did chart.Comments welcome, and be sure to give a thank-you to Stack as well. He started these, and then made sure they had that extra bit of spit-shine.
