So I was going to add the new songs to my working USB/customs drive…and something duplicated ALL of my song files with today’s date!

I normally run Party Buffalo, but forgot what my normal utility was and ran Modio 3.0 instead. Because of this, I am not sure what exactly I did, but now I see duplicates for ALL song files.

In party buff, if I view a property of a “dupe” song, the “full path” and “checksum” are the same with the “orig” song.

If I delete a “new” song and restart party buff, I get a Bad FAT error, so bad things are happening ;-(

Bad FAT chain in file …

Entry marked as deleted to avoid further errors!

Anyone have this happen and do you think the best approach is to delete all of the “dupe” files before I put the USB back in the XBOX?

Not sure what is best…clean up as best I can with Party Buff or just load it back in XBOX and see if it can figure out the filesystem

    thx for any suggestions

Should have mentioned that once Quit Party Buff and restarted, my new and original song were deleted, so it seems like there is ONE song, but the directory has 2 entries for it.

At this point, I guess I don’t have the option of deleting files…

Format it in the Xbox and start over. Hopefully you backed up your save game, or it’s expendable.

I do have a backup, but never tried it…will give it a shot tomorrow.

I don’t have the systems in front of me at the moment, but:

Do I need both the “game save backup” from the xbox storage menu and the songs.cache (seen from Party Buff)? Or are they the same?

I have never understood what is in each file. Are the song scores, song ratings, etc. all in the “save game”?

      thx!

The song scores are stored in the cache, because TU4 can never connect to Rock Central. I’m not sure about the rest of stuff.

I handle the game save and the cache in the same way when shuffling stuff around.

You used Modio is the problem (Though I used Modio as well).

Modio is… A bit weird for me when I put customs onto a flash drive and that kind of stuff. (Though never had a ‘dups problem’, I’m assuming that happened cuz you used a different Xbox reader thingummwut {Idk the general name for these programs!}. But ye’h, I’ve had plenty of times of needing to reformat my Xbox flash drive cause I did something incorrectly with Modio. Best thing to do is use what you are use to.

I thought I had it…I have the new USB with my profile and I am able to move a bunch of customs, with Party Buffalo, and play them from RB3 and see my old scores and song ratings! Yea!

This is why I thought I got it working…everything works until I try and add another song. New songs *look* like they are copied to the USB with Party Buffalo, but if I close and then exit Party Buf and then re-open, they are missing. I deleted all songs, then I was able to add a bunch(first copy). But once again, when I try to add after the close/exit, the “new” songs are not there the next time I look (songs there were there from the first copy are still there…)

Strange. Anyone see something like this?

          thx!

How many do you have? Party buffalo and modio tend to flake out when there’s more than 256 customs. Try USBXTAFGUI if that’s the trouble.

            #405473

Funny you should mention that. My latest idea was to move all of my customs into 1 BIG folder and then “import the folder” (instead of just injecting bunches of files).

It added them all, but when I went back after close/exit, it did stop at 256. Was just now looking for an alternative utility. I’ll definitely try usbxtafgui.

thanks for all of the replies, you keep me from getting stuck

It’s not exactly like that. It must be a combination of things, because I never encountered the 256 customs issue ever, and I used all kind of USB management software, including Party Buffalo, Modio and USBXTAFGUI. Maybe something tied to the computer or the USB key. Also, USBXTAFGUI destroyed my USB key once and Modio to me has been more often than not unreliable. Just some information, it’s probably different for every configuration.

              #405517

Well, after a bunch more attempts of copying and testing, I finally got all songs copied (w/USBXTAFGUI) by doing them one at a time and I was hoping that all would work…but alas now my xbox profile is corrupted.

(USBXTAFGUI hung when attempting to import my songs directory (~300 songs) and then later when trying to copy about 12 in drag-n-drop…so I knew once I had to kill the program, I was likely it trouble…)

I will try to create a new (offline) profile, put it on the same USB drive as the customs and see if I can copy the the RB3 related files from the bad profile (again risky, but why not try).

Worse case is I just start over…but I do hope to save my scores and song ratings <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_biggrin.gif” />

An update. The only utility I could get working with >256 files and my 32GB USB drives (I have 2 “Patriot 32GB USB 2”) was fatxplorer (commercial 1 week trial). For whatever reason USBXTAFGUI and Modio and PartyBuffalo just wouldn’t work after many many attempts.

I do have a question on xbox profiles. Since the profile was on the USB and it was corrupted, even though I had a backup of my “RB3 game save”, I have not been able to use it as the game save appears tied to a profile…That is a bummer as I loose all of my song ratings as well as scores. On the bright side, at least I can play RB3 again…

And one more question on profiles ;-)

Right now my customs USB (w/TU4) has a (new offline) xbox profile. Can I move it back to the hard drive?

I am concerned that something will corrupt the USB as I will be updating with new songs every friday :excited:

You can, but having a USB stick for all things customs makes it easier.

Or you can back it up using one of those “personal computer” gizmos I’ve been reading about in Popular Science.

                  OFTEN.
