A resounding meh for the whole setlist, to be honest.
“that smell” might be fun on guitar, although I don’t particularly love the song
September 14, 2015 at 2:13 pm #454901Don’t think I recognize any of these last 13 songs by name. Was disappointed to see Everybody Talks is nowhere to be found…so I’ve moved it to DLC rumors for now.
September 14, 2015 at 2:15 pm #454902So now that the setlist is finished, theres a few things I noticed. First off no Metallica. They used Van Halen and Aerosmith, 2 of the 4 previously confirmed GH exclusives, so for them to not be in this game means they are still in bed with Activision which makes sense because they still do a lot of stuff with them such as play Blizzcon, or it could be they just couldn’t be licensed at this time (which happens a lot). If they don’t show up in GH Live, I’ll feel a lot better about them not being in RB4. Secondly, this set list has the most “Wait who’s that?” Compared to other on disc set lists. Even after listening to them, I still don’t know who a lot of these people are. Over all for me the setlist is about a 3/10, which definitely disappoints. I can only hope that Harmonix beings back weekly DLC, and it’s the quality of DLC we used to get, with big bame artists.
September 14, 2015 at 2:20 pm #454903So now that the setlist is finishedThat’s an assumption. The tweet says this is the final setlist announcement. As has been noted on reddit and as I tweeted at them to clarify, it can easily be read to mean there may be more songs on disc but they just won’t be announced prior to release. Unlikely, but not entirely impossible.
EDIT: Nevermind, e-mail from them says “FINAL Group of Rock Band 4 Songs Announced” and “we’re excited to announce the final group of soundtrack songs” so I guess this is it. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_frown.gif” />
September 14, 2015 at 3:39 pm #454912First impressions as a vocalist primary, for the songs we can hear:
- Brad Paisley – “Start A Band” (ft. Keith Urban) – There is some potential for some nice softball/warmup harmonies, though I’ve never really been a fan of this song. Not expecting this to be in the rotation.
- Brandi Carlile – “Mainstream Kid” – Can see this song rapidly growing on me. Going to be a decent vocals pick. Good energy.
- Gary Clark Jr. – “Ain’t Messin’ Round” – Not going to be something I pick but I won’t be disappointed if it shows up in a random setlist, at least. Expect I will enjoy this on other instruments, though.
- Gin Blossoms – “Follow You Down” – A+++ vocal party pick. I’m biased because I belt this one out all the time.
- Grouplove – “Tongue Tied” – I randomly saw the music video for this like three months ago and thought it would be fun to sing, but I never thought this would be a disc or DLC song. Seemed to weird to make the cut. I’m very happy it’s here, but it just makes me think of another song I saw the same day that I wanted to chart and I’ll be damned if I can remember the name of it… dammit…
- Imagine Dragons – “I Bet My Life” – As a vocalist I would have much rather had “It’s Time”, as overplayed as it is, but hey at least I’m not entirely burnt out on this song, and at least it’s not one of their other hot garbage songs.
- Lynyrd Skynyrd – “That Smell” – I don’t think I’ll care for this much in solo vocals but it’ll be good w/ a party and some backup vocalists. Looking forward to it more for the other instruments, tbh.
- Mumford & Sons – “The Wolf” – Weaker than their ‘bigger’ stuff imo from a vocalist perspective, but happy to have something not overplayed and should be interesting on other instruments.
- R.E.M. – “The One I Love” – A+++ would buy again.
- The Warning – “Free Falling” – Can see this growing on me. Better than Crooked X. #shotsfired.
September 14, 2015 at 3:45 pm #454914Well, nothing in this new list encourages me to pre-order.
I never thought I would be reluctant to Day 1 a new Rock Band release.
September 14, 2015 at 4:10 pm #454915Good luck to the people who get on the Road Crew and have to pimp this garbage set list.
I hope the career mode doesn’t force you to play the on-disc songs, unlike previous games, because I barely want to play anything on-disc for RB4.
September 14, 2015 at 4:13 pm #454916Come on people. I didn’t know almost any song from almost any game and enjoyed most of them after playing them. Let’s give HMX the benefit of the doubt.
September 14, 2015 at 4:16 pm #454917Come on people. I didn’t know almost any song from almost any game and enjoyed most of them after playing them. Let’s give HMX the benefit of the doubt.I’ve had the previously announced songs on a thumb drive playing in the car for a while now, desperately trying to find something good, but it’s almost all shit.
Don’t get me wrong, I will still follow through with my three pre-orders of the game, but it is obvious that the song budget for this game was just not what it needed to be. 12/63 ftw…
September 14, 2015 at 4:18 pm #454918Brandi Carlile – “Mainstream Kid”
Eh, would have preferred “Wherever Is Your Heart” but whatever.
September 14, 2015 at 4:21 pm #454919Wow what a disappointment. Was really expecting a couple knockouts. I’m a fan of Skynyrd and I don’t even care for that song. I’d rather have Free Bird playable instead.
Still pre-ordered the game+adapter bundle though. Thankfully I still have my DLC library.
September 14, 2015 at 4:22 pm #454920Jesus, this reminds me of how badly I’m going to miss some of the RB3 songs.
I mean, I know some people want MIDI support, keys, online play. But for me, RB3 is the highest priority.
September 14, 2015 at 4:31 pm #454921The great news is I can keep playing RB3 and customs for no additional costs! That Smell is really good though. I wish the guitar custom I got years ago wasn’t so crummy.
September 14, 2015 at 4:56 pm #454925But seriously: Have any of you actually bought a Rock Band game specifically for the setlist?!
Sounds like crazy-talk to me! We buy music games for the new features, right? Especially since the on-disc setlist has to be designed to please people of all tastes: nobody is going to walk away 100% pleased… or even 50%!
There maybe a few on-disc songs that I like enough to play regularly (“Space Oddity”, I’m lookin’ at you!), but DLC and customs get 95% of our play time in this house. That’s why they sell DLC, to make the game your own.
But those features, man… still waiting on some of them to be made clearer, more highlights on unannounced “little things” that make life easier (e.g. song sorting/filtering), and final word and what didn’t make the cut.
That, and still waiting for that second must-have title to finally warrant an XBone purchase! ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif” />

No Jessie’s Girl, no peace.
