I was wondering if there were any limit regarding the number of custom songs at the same time on PS3 ?

I’ve been struggling to add new songs when I got past ~188 customs. I’ve added new songs and updated the song.dta, but it didn’t show up in RB3. I’ve looked through the songs.dta file, thinking it was the problem, and the Quick Pack Editor only finds 188 song entries. When I open the file on Notepad, the new songs appear just fine in the list.

Other than that, it works great! I’ve created a second list of customs (and a second songs.dta file) to give a try to the songs which didn’t appear in-game. <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif” />

if Quick Pack Editor only finds 188 songs, that means that after entry 188 something is wrong in the songs.dta file.

Here’s a private BETA for you guys only. Try converting all those songs that were giving you the skipping error using Type 2 encryption and let me know if it fixed it. Just in case, don’t put this on Program Files, any other folder that won’t require special Windows privileges would be good.

@Trojan I tried the EDAT encryption type 2 in C3 Con tools PS3 Converter on Stairway to Heaven but it would always says failed on the .mid to EDAT encryption part when using type 2

Redownload the RAR archive from the OP and extract it to your desktop or something that is NOT c:program files.

          It definitely shouldn’t be failing.

Here’s something for you guys to test.

          http://www.keepitfishy.com/rb3/stairwaytoheaven.rar

There are two files in there:

          stairwaytoheaven_auto.mid.edat

          stairwaytoheaven_manual.mid.edat

Try them both, see if either one works. Remove the _auto or _manual from the filename before testing, of course.

Let me know which one works.

tested both, and both of them are working fine.

Yep, I can confirm both files work fine on my ps3 too.

Do we have a solution on that “skipping song” issue?

I also think there is an error in your songs.dta, cause I got 759 songs in that list right now and all work fine! <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />

Don’t worry Viperi! I’ll test the stuff tonight and give a feedback to you all!

              And thanks to TrojanNemo for supporting an unsupported program… <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_biggrin.gif” /> <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif” />

I too had the issue with Type 2 but the manual process I described earlier works for all songs that were skipping.

                Hope this helps?

I fixed it by deleting the 189th song entry. Seems like it was a typo in the song folder name (“rocknrollster” instead of “rocknrollstar”). Thanks a lot <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif” />

I just tested a couple of songs with TrojanNemo’s C3-Tool-BETA but unfortunately none works. :ohdear:

                    I converted these songs:

                    All Time Low – Umbrella

Mötley Crüe -Too Young to Fall in Love

One Republic – All the Right Moves

                    Metallica – Dyers Eye

But I think it’s funny ijax54 songs work and also TrojanNemo’s “Stairway to Heaven” modification but those ones above didn’t. Sounds strange to me… :raise:

Just to explain how I converted the songs:

I choose a folder without windows restrictions (E:RockBandToolsC3CONTools_BETA)

After that I copied the Merged Songs folder from the existing database to the ps3 folder (E:RockBandToolsC3CONTools_BETAps3Merged Songs).

Then I started the conversion like I did it a hundred times before.

I transfered just the new files to my ps3 and overwrote the songs.dta as well.

Hope everybody can follow how I did it.

                      Hi hamburgerjung,

I will try Metallica – Dyers Eyes all 3 ways, Type 1, Type 2 and Manually and come back in a few minutes.

I just tried to decrypt and encrypt back the EDAT file like ijax54 descriped above and I can confirm it works! :wth: <img decoding=” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />

So there still has to be an error in the decrypt/encrypt code of the C3-Tools, I guess.

If it helps I can create a manual step by step how I did the decryption and encryption…

                          I can confirm too.

                          Type 1 failed

Type 2 failed and gave the failed to encypt statement in the log

I then tried manually and I think this is key.

I decrypted with GUI version as outlined above, but with only 1 file encrypted also with the GUI version and this FAILED

When I decrypted with GUI and encrypted with the “dos window” variant if worked.

Must be a minor bug in the code.

                          Hope this helps.

If it helps I can create a manual step by step how I did the decryption and encryption…

The stairway to heaven “auto” edat file was created with C3 CON Tools.

The stairway to heaven “manual” edat file was created with rebuilder.exe manually

C3 CON Tools basically fires rebuilder.exe and feeds it the lines it expects as if you were clicking through it manually, since it can’t really be controlled via command-line, so what’s happening is I’m pressing 2 (encrypt), pressing 1 (to select the one file in the edat folder), inputting content id, inputting dev license, press enter, press x (‘press any key’), input / a to abort and close the program.

That’s the same process I did when I did it manually. Both of them worked according to you.

I decrypted with GUI version as outlined above, but with only 1 file encrypted also with the GUI version and this FAILED

You don’t ever have to decrypt anything. It’s easier to just grab the original MIDI file from the CON and then encrypt that. The “GUI” version is what C3 CON Tools uses for Type 2. That’s TrueAncestor (rebuilder.exe). the DOS version is edattool.exe, which is what is used for Type 1. The “type 1” and “type 2” distinction don’t mean anything, that’s just how I chose to name it. They both “should” be doing the same thing. edattool is faster and can be controlled via command-line, which is preferable for automating things. rebuilder.exe seems to be reliable but the fact that I have to simulate keyboard entries sucks and causes unnecessary delay in the conversion process.

Type 2 failed and gave the failed to encypt statement in the log

that has to be a problem on your end. Did you extract the files on a non-special privilege folder as instructed? Are you sure your anti-virus isn’t stopping rebuilder.exe from firing up? Is rebuilder.exe in the /bin folder? Try running as Administrator just in case.

If you’re seeing that error, it’s because Rebuilder.exe is either not allowed to work, or there is an error in the process that the program isn’t accounting for, but not a “it didn’t encrypt the file correctly” error. You’re having a whole different problem there.

I’ll let you guys try to figure out why it worked for me and not for you. It might be worth trying NOT merging anything. I obviously don’t have a bunch of files to merge with, so all my tests have been done with no existing ps3 conversions in the ps3 folder and no auto-merging. So test without that for the time being to eliminate that as a probable cause.

                              Thanks for your explanation!

I will test one rbcon without any merging options and come back to you.

                              Just to suggest an idea:

Couldn’t it be for any reasons the created EDAT file by your C3-Tool has to be decrypted and encrypted back one more time to work fine?

Of course I cannot explain why it should work but indeed it does on our systems.

I tested your suggestion with the song Too Young to Fall in Love by Mötley Crüe but received the same result “skipping song”.

                                What I did:

Converted just this one song with your beta_C3-Tools and did NOT toggeled the merge function.

So the song files went into “All Songs” folder.

I transfered both the song files folder (cij_tooyoungfalllove) and the songs.dta with just one song in it to my ps3 and overwrote the existing songs.dta with hundreds of customs.

I could see the song Too Young to Fall in Love in the RockBand library but received the same skipping song error when I choosed the song.
