Usually chart what you hear easiest. Alot of the time the drummer will be doing a beat on the while also taping his left foot, making the hi-hat noise. If that’s the case, stick with the main beat

thank you that really helps i’m just doing this song and its a genre i’m not 100% about like rock metal and country it just seems like the notes are scattered in no real pattern

Yes what Mango said. Most drummers keep the beat by tapping their left foot with the high hat pedal.

That’s what I was taught years ago in band class, and have used that technique for many years of drumming.

That’s why it can be difficult to keep a beat on RB3 or RB4 stock drums, No High Hat pedal to keep in time with song !

Just chart the distinct drum beats you hear well.

This is extremely, extremely rare. Either you are not hearing things correctly or you’ve come across and insanely rare situation.

Is this perhaps a drum machine you’re charting? You mentioned that it’s a genre you’re not entirely into, listing rock, metal, and country as those you are. Drum machines are rather common in genres outside of that fold (hell, they’re also starting to become more common in those genres). If it is a drum machine, what you may want to do is stick to what’s most prominently heard, which would indeed go along with the advice already given. Make sure that the chart remains humanly possible, since a lot of the time drum machines have beats that would require a drummer to perform in ways not humanly possible.

I’m thinking about scrapping what i have so far and rewatch the tempo mapping video again to see if i have any luck i was trying a suggustion about mapping the drums first then finding the tempo map that way but i don’t think it worked at all for me
