We’ve seen a number of instances where an author would post a WIP thread with some songs and then another author posting the same songs, authored by them of course. Now, while it is allowed, it is strongly discouraged. Anybody taking the time to post a work in progress thread deserves at least a PM telling them that you’re working on the same song or that you can collaborate.
Thank you for your cooperation!
May 17, 2016 at 5:03 am #468774Agreed! Also, use the search function, folks. On both the forums and the database. That’s always my first step whenever I even consider charting something.
May 17, 2016 at 2:53 pm #468793I read that last line in RoboCop’s voice.
The forum admin is not to be trifled with. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
May 17, 2016 at 5:28 pm #468801If you ever charting something, a simple PM goes a long way, considering I plan weekly customs, and I always transparently post what is coming I also PM authors (saying that I don’t really post customs that any human being enjoys)
May 17, 2016 at 5:38 pm #468802What happens if someone posts a one-instrument FoF port of a song you’re working on a full band custom of, and have put on your WIP thread? It’d be one thing if it were an original chart, then I’d just contact the author and see if I can collab with them or something, but it’s another when it’s a FoF port and the original author isn’t on these boards.

If you have posted on your WIP thread you should have precedence. We don’t want to block any upload right now, but we are encouraging users to collaborate and respect the work of authors like yourself who do great full band customs.
May 18, 2016 at 2:47 am #468830Anytime i’ve missed seeing a WIP, the author lets me know and i don’t work on that certain song anymore. So if i’ve missed one and posted a single instrument version of anything thats being worked on FB, let me know, because i’ll take them down in a heartbeat.
EDIT: For instance, I posted Blasteroid by Mastodon not knowing that someone was WIPing it. I had forgot to search on the forums and not just the DB. Now reading all of these posts over again, I feel bad. This guy spent time charting this to post himself and all i did was take someones work, put my mediocre shine on it, and posted it.
So again, if toes were stepped on (to anyone), I apologize.
May 18, 2016 at 5:59 am #468836I don’t get what the problem with having multiple different versions of a custom is tbh. It’s not like as soon as someone posted a custom you’re not allowed to work on/post your own version of the song.
Oh wait, I forgot that this is c3 where this is considered rude for whatever reason. Sorry.May 18, 2016 at 6:04 am #468838I don’t get what the problem with having multiple different versions of a custom is tbh. Oh wait, I forgot that this is c3 where this is considered rude for whatever reason. Sorry.the point is that customs take a long time so it’s best to spend it on songs that no one else is doing and if they are doing the same song you can propose splitting the work saving both parties time and effort

Oh wait, I forgot that this is c3 where this is considered rude for whatever reason. Sorry. If you’ve heard of the Video Game Crash of ’83, you’ll understand why having many of the same type of product with varying degrees of quality is not a good thing.
May 18, 2016 at 8:28 am #468843What happens if someone try to put collaboration or advance with the song(s) and the charter(s) just ignore the PMs?
(with the same idea, not doing 2 versions or something)May 18, 2016 at 9:12 am #468846I don’t get what the problem with having multiple different versions of a custom is tbh. It’s not like as soon as someone posted a custom you’re not allowed to work on/post your own version of the song.
Oh wait, I forgot that this is c3 where this is considered rude for whatever reason. Sorry. We explained many times the reasoning behind it. You can disagree with that but there is not need to be smug about it. We’re just asking to value the time put in to work on songs by anybody and if anything is already under production consider a collaboration. This community was born out of the need to centralize and to reduce fragmentation, mainly because Rock Band users are used to have a marketplace with a single, most polished version of any song. We can’t and won’t vet uploads, so we can’t say which version adheres most to the rules, and that is why we don’t stop people from uploading multiple versions, we are just asking to consider collaborations.

And if the other authors don’t bother replying, you have all the reasons in the world to go ahead and work on what you want with a clean conscience. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif”>
May 18, 2016 at 12:56 pm #468858I appreciate all the work that is done, sometimes I wish that the DB was broken down into Full Band and “Less than Full band”, I know we have the icons in the DB but I think some authors probably don’t do some songs because there are less than full band customs in the DB. The “less than full band” could be considered WIP for full band completion and open for collaborations. I know a lot of work goes into authoring 1 or 2 instruments alone and Full Band should be considered a gift for all of us that play them. Not meant as a bashing anyone that does less than Full Band.

I agree. An incomplete custom should be incentive for others to add to it since the hard work of tempo mapping is done. I’ve considered releasing a lot of my drums only that I wanted to make full band but don’t think I’ll have time and inviting others to carry on my work. Otherwise they just sit on my hard drive wasting away
May 22, 2016 at 3:20 am #469114agree i would like full band customs for a song i like rather than just 2 instruments it fells like an official song that way
