Nice! Funny, I’m nominally involved in a project to record an album with all time signatures of 17, and I hadn’t realized Discipline was an exemplar until I pulled out an old Bruford transcription book a few weeks back…
yes there is a vhs from him of the 80s called bruford and the beat where he explains some songs of the 80s era of king crimson. i studied the whole discipline song before transcripting (& charting) and learning it, he had to cut and expand some of the 17s to fit with guitars that are on 5/8 and 15/16. Very impressive.
As higher is a prime number on numerator more odd is the song, i found the most odd time signature in Ganondorf Battle Theme of Zelda Ocarina of Time wich has a similiar behavior as Discipline but its time signature is on 23/16. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
Oh, huh, and another famous one: “Changes” by Yes
yup, the intro (and the outro) is on 17/8, it feels time is divided onto 7/8 + 10/8. Then the song flows all in 4/4.
