Hi folks,
Figured I’d start a thread for this. For those of you unfamiliar with it, the Rock Band: Harmonies Project is a project aiming to get harmonies on all pre-RB3 disc/DLC songs, harmonies and pro drums on many if not all RBN1.0 songs, and providing support optional upgrades for keys, chart fixes, and pro guitar/bass on pre-RB3 songs.
We’re still a couple of releases away from getting back into DLC, and I believe the first week of DLC releases may already be spoken for, but I’m interested in hearing what you’re looking for. I’m personally only authoring harmonies, pro drums (for RBN1.0), and non-scoring affecting fixes for tracks (at this point), but feel free to put requests for custom pro guitar upgrades or keys/pro keys upgrades in this thread, as other authors may be interested seeing what people would like to see, especially if they’re bouncing back and forth between a couple of ideas.
Please note the following key information about our release structure:
* I generally release albums and packs as packs. If you’re requesting a song in a pack or on an album, know that this means I’ll be doing the entire thing when I get to it. Given that this means I may be working on several songs by a given band, for artists/songs I’m not super fond of, I’ll be frank and say I may give these a lower priority or take a while to release them (working on them in pieces).
* A great way to get me to finish a pack or album is to give me a couple of the pieces you’ve charted yourself (if you’re interested in contributing and have some familiarity with the tools or a sense for pitch, e-mail me at the project address).
* I aim for batches of 10 disc/DLC songs + 2 RBN songs, and then whatever number of RBNPD/pro guitar/keys upgrades I get in a given interval (since I don’t author those). Releases come faster with more contributions or with easier charts, so keep in mind that convincing me to author a ten-pack of some crazy three-part harmony monstrosity may lead to a longer delay between releases.
* The plan is to get to everything non-RBN (and maybe, eventually, everything RBN1.0), so your requests for non-RBN content will definitely come eventually. It might be in two or three years when you’ve moved on, but they’ll get there, dammit!
So, with all that said, tell me: what do you want to see upgraded next?
April 27, 2013 at 2:24 pm #398846Was going to throw out a request for Bang Camaro and Freezepop DLC. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” /> Would love for the remaining Bang Camaro songs on RBN to get Pro Drums as well, and Harmonies wouldn’t be bad either.
[Split over a few releases, but…
09/09/12 – Bang Camaro – Pleasure (Pleasure) (RB1)
09/09/12 – Freezepop – Brainpower (RB1)
12/23/12 – Bang Camaro – Night Lies (RB2)
02/20/13 – Bang Camaro – Push Push (Lady Lightning) (RBN)
06/21/13 – Bang Camaro – Swallow the Razor (RBN)
07/26/13 – Freezepop – Get Ready 2 Rokk (DLC09)
07/26/13 – Freezepop – Less Talk More Rokk (DLC09)
07/26/13 – Freezepop – Science Genius Girl (DLC09)
08/08/14 – Bang Camaro – Bang Camaro (RBN)
08/08/14 – Bang Camaro – Rock Rebellion (DLC08)
08/08/14 – Freezepop – Sprode (DLC08)
Other RBN tracks may be coming, but don’t get greedy! ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />]
April 27, 2013 at 2:25 pm #398847#1 for me and the missus: Stone Temple Pilots, frustratingly released right before the harmony cut-off! [12/12/14]
Sadly, many of our requests come from bands with multi-song releases! Also high on the list:
– Alice in Chains [06/27/14]
– REM [03/14/14 (Losing My Religion), 08/08/04 (the 8-pack)]
– Styx [09/06/14]
Y’know, the sort of bands where you expect good harmonies. Given that, hopefully they’re some of the bands you like. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif” />
In the smaller range, Smithereens have two songs with tasty vocal bits that I’ll buy in a heartbeat if they had harmonies! [01/31/14 — hope you bought them!]
So far as singles, one that I’d love (that nobody else would care) would be “Shhh….” by Darkest of the Hillside Thickets. Just a little bit of harmony in the chorus, but it’s a potent addition. [01/09/15]
April 27, 2013 at 3:29 pm #398848I just want to mention that for those who request pro guitar/bass upgrades, it’ll increase the likelihood of consideration if you provide an accurate tab for both guitar and bass.
April 28, 2013 at 12:10 am #398861I finally got the RBHP loaded on my box. Thanks for all your hard work!
Throwing in a vote for keys getting added to The Cars album
& Harmonies & Keys added to Bob Marley & The Wailers – Legend
[Keys are still dependent on someone else getting them, but Legend is done as of 09/09/14!]
Also, I don’t know if it’s possible, but for some of the more popular tracks
that have both prominent harmonies AND keys is there anyway to add on
new animations or whatever else is missing from tracks updated this way.
I understand part of the issue being that we want to make sure that people
buy the official dlc that’s still being offered and it’s wrong to create customs
of songs that would take money out HMXs pocket. Understood. I didn’t even
get into customs until the end of dlc was announced. I’m all for continuing
support for official dlc. I’ve bought way more than I care to admit.
That said, considering a lot of the forums dedicated to customs also have
tons of people posting official dlc files for anyone to grab, it feels like this
shouldn’t be an issue of principal, but if it’s worth the work.
Maybe there could be a version where if an author wanted to fully integrate
harmonies and keys into an older RB track, they could create the components,
distribute them and then it’s up to each person to extract their official dlc
with LeFluffie, add in the new bits, then repackage as a new con. That way,
only the people who already have the official dlc can update the tracks.
Again, this would be for a handful of older tracks/packs that have big harmonies
and keys that would benefit from the whole polished customs process and slick
animations. IMO, the two I mentioned above are prime candidates.
I think also the Fleetwood Mac, NIN, Grateful Dead, Boston, The Who, Devo,
No Doubt, Rush, Styx, Spinal Tap, Gorillaz, Talking Heads, Freezepop, Green Day,
Creedence, & T.Rex tracks could benefit greatly from this.
Anyone else think this is worth considering? Is it too much of a hassle?
After seeing some of the customs animations floating around, I think this
would another great addition to some of the older RB tracks in the library.
After getting all these amazing customs to work and following along various
forums the last few weeks I’d like to contribute in some way, but I’m not
sure what I can bring to the table. I’d be happy to help in any way within
my means and skills, but I think I should save that for another thread.
Sorry for the tl;dr wall of text.
April 28, 2013 at 1:10 am #398863I vote for harmonies to Alice in Chains and Eve 6. [AiC done 06/27/14, Eve 6 still to be done]
Keys to the Cars albums.

It’s very much an issue of principal, of course. I don’t want to pirate the contents. I can’t stop other people from pirating them, but I’m sure as hell not going to be distributing them. For one, piracy as mentioned, and I know that sounds hypocritical, but I’m not pirating content that is for sale. For another, and this is one that was asked and placed in the old FAQ several times (before I took it out when we weren’t able to do keys the first time around) I don’t have time to go in and bring all these pre-RB3 charts up to RB3 standards to run through Magma. I’d have to re-do guitar/bass charts (at least temporarily) to get them to code. I’d have to clean up the vox charts. I’d have to redo the venue/event tracks. Blah blah blah. I certainly do not have the time or inclination to do it, even if I /did/ distribute “only” the new animation files.
If someone really wants to repackage their own LIVE files as “RB3 Version” CONs, they’re more than welcome to take the .mid file available to them in the release, merge it with the .mid from the existing LIVE file, fix them up to RB3 standards, and run them through Magma or whatever using dummy audio to get the animations or what have you, and build their own packages. Part of my reason for using the new, .mids-aren’t-in-CON-files distribution method was to give people raw access to the upgrades should they decide to do just this (one guy had been in PM contact with me pretty frequently on 360iso about doing this when this was a Harmonies-only affair, actually).

I apologize, I thought I was clear in my post. Maybe you missed it? Quoted below.

I wasn’t suggesting you pirate dlc. Quite the opposite. I meant it wouldn’t be an
issue of principal because in my suggestion, the original files wouldn’t be released.
It seems like it would only be an issue of interest in creating the new content and
finding the best way to merge it with the official dlc file on the users end.
Also, I figured since you mentioned this thread was also for other authors to see
what people were interested in, it wouldn’t hurt to bring it up. I understand that
you are not interested, but maybe other authors might be?
I love how simple you made it to zap in 200 some odd harmony upgrades to the
older songs. And I get that one big point of this project is to update the tracks
without having to pirate the official dlc and that you’ve made it so these upgrades
can be used with TU5 and online. It’s great that you figured out how to do it and
I’m truly glad for the RB players who like to play online.
But I’m not one of them. I never played RB3 online the whole time it’s been out.
Never will. Especially now, I’ve been tweaking my official dlc songs info for sorting
purposes and repackaging them as cons with LeFluffie. So the TU5 aspect of it
doesn’t really apply to me.
I think there’s a very small group of the older songs that fit the criteria of having
great harmonies, and great keys parts, from an iconic artist. I think those
songs would benefit greatly from those elements being added back in along with
all the animations and bells and whistles that are missing.
All that being the case, and with more and more people getting into charting,
I figured it would be worth throwing it out there to see if anyone would be
interested in digging into this idea. I didn’t intend to ruffle any feathers.
Thanks again for all your hard work. It’s truly appreciated.

Unless we’re talking about completely different things, because after reading both of your posts a couple of times, I thought we were talking about the same things. Other authors are free to do whatever they’d like, of course, including making their own animation files or distributing full RB3 Version packages, but the latter certainly won’t be distributed through RB:HP. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif”>
If you (or anyone else) wants to do them up, hey, by all means, the harmonies (and pro drums and keys) .mids and the necessary songs.dta files are in the current distro. The animations need to come from Magma, which means you’ve got to do the stuff mentioned in bold (I forgot to mention you also need to record dryvox for all the harmony parts) to get it up to code and get it to run through with all the charts.

I see where I got confused. My response/question/request was aimed at the entire forum, not you. I assume other authors not involved with the RBHP would read the thread and might be interested in my suggestion. I should have made a new thread I guess, but I thought it would be ok to wonder aloud about it in yours since it was a similar topic.
My original comments were meant for the forum at large and not meant to be direct requests to you, but more about asking how difficult it would be to implement and to gauge interest in the idea. I should have been clearer.
April 28, 2013 at 3:19 pm #398880Keys/Pro Keys Upgrade for: Baba OReilly, Short & Sweet, Swing Swing, Won’t Get Fooled Again, Highway Star
[Keys/Pro Keys still depend on submissions… but I think I may see some for these eventually – note that Won’t Get Fooled Again and Highway Star were done by mazegeek.]
April 28, 2013 at 3:33 pm #398882I think the RBHP project is a perfect way to break in people who want to help but who are not familiar with Reaper and customs creation in general. Pro drums upgrade are really simple to do and some harmony upgrades are basically a matter of copying, pasting and transposing. And after that, keys may be not that difficult thing to do for songs with simple synth parts.
Espher does an insane amount of work, so any help I’m sure is very appreciated and it’s a perfect way to learn the ropes. If you want to contribute but you don’t know much about tempo map, actual charting, passing through Magma, etc, this is your chance. I’m sure that if, along with your requests, those of you who want to help but don’t know much about customs submit their name to lend a hand (on the same track you want to see upgraded or tracks that are easy enough to start tinkering with), espher won’t mind at all. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif”> And you can also start getting involved in authoring, which is pretty cool. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_wink.gif”>

I should have been clearer. And my response, though speaking mainly about it from my (and the project’s) perspective, touches on the difficulties of the implementation for any interested parties. It’s a lot of work — a lot more than just preparing the charts in question — but the RB:HP charts and songs.dta files are accessible for anyone willing to undertake it.
It’s not a bad suggestion, it’s just distributing packaged versions of the stuff does not really fly under the mandate of RB:HP or C3, and I can tell you that if it was easy to get a “deployment package” so to speak for people to mess around with it would probably be there as an optional download. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_cheeky.001.gif”>
April 28, 2013 at 5:14 pm #398899Keys/Pro Keys Upgrade for: Baba OReilly, Won’t Get Fooled AgainHarmonies for “Behind Blue Eyes” & “Who Are You?” are a must as well. [07/18/14]
April 28, 2013 at 10:10 pm #398910Little known (but still fun) RBN 1.0 song that fairly screams for pro drums: “Day To Day” by Eulogies. If I I could get some lessons, I’d try doing it myself!
[Thanks to Sideshow, this is done as of 02/20/15!]
