New! Metal Origins C01 5-pack (BearzUnlimited)

  • Black Sabbath – “Iron Man” X
  • Blue Cheer – “Summertime Blues”

  • Steppenwolf – “Born to Be Wild” X

A red X denotes Pro Guitar/Pro Bass charts, a blue M denotes full multitracks, a blue K denotes a “karaoke” multitrack (separated vocals), and a rusty 2x denotes that a 2x Bass Pedal version is also available. [FtV] denotes a song previously released by a C3 author outside of C3.

Rock music has slowly evolved over the last 60 or 70 years, layering sounds upon sounds to create a delicious cake of different genres and styles. One genre near to the heart of many plastic guitarists is heavy metal, and this week’s pack focuses on how it came to be. Sabbath, Zep, and Deep Purple are all called out directly by the Wikipedia article, and their lineup of 1968-1971 hits is bolstered by “Born to Be Wild” (HEAVY METAL THUNDER) and Blue Cheer’s version of “Summertime Blues”, credited by many as The First Metal Recording. All five are excellent additions to any library, whether for their fame or their difficulty. This is your study material for Metal 301! There will be a test!
Author BearzUnlimited has this to say about each song:

  • “Iron Man” – “Finally getting to play that iconic riff in RB, two guitar solos, lots of drum fills, and some fun bass lines. Plus, learn the lyrics other than ‘I am Iron Man.'”
  • “Summertime Blues” – “Great, heavy rendition of the rockabilly classic, with pounding drums and fun riffs on both guitar and bass.”
  • “Fireball” – “Perhaps the first ever speed metal song, this track features a rocking organ part, double bass drumming with fast fills, and an exciting bass part with a solo.”
  • “Dazed and Confused” – “This heavy, bluesy number from Zep’s debut features some great guitar riffs that are mostly mirrored by bass. The drums part is loaded with fills, and vocalists have to match Plant’s intense wailing. The middle of the song has an intense, fast section with a wild guitar solo.”
  • “Born to Be Wild” – “This song has fun parts for every instrument, including a great guitar riff, a nice bass groove, and a tough organ solo.”

Fixes uploaded in the last week to previous C3 releases:

  • Berlin – “Sex (I’m A…)”: Fixed drums overdrive

If you liked this pack, C3 has released ten other Led Zeppelin tracks, along with (literally) hundreds of other metal tracks from Dream Theater to Pantera. Try filtering by the “Metal” genre in our database!
See you next Friday!
