Still no reason for me to get RB4 then. I’m not keen on buying another one of MadCatz’ terrible drum kits.

Yeah, if only Mad Catz were going to a lot of effort to improve the design of the instruments for the new game. Tch, eh?

totally understand the decision to drop the keys – RB3 was the lowest-selling of the core RB titles, which probably means that the adoption rate for the keyboard is significantly lower than that of the other instruments. They did include questions about keys in their Rock Band survey that dropped either earlier this year or last year (I forget when). I’m sure HMX have the numbers on their side.

It’s disappointing for those of us who like keys, but I wouldn’t go so far as to say it’s a slap in the face. Some people have opted to be very angry about what is, I think, a fairly sensible business decision.

Are we talking about an application that lets you play the drum track on a Rock Band song/custom on the PC? Because if so, I’m into that.

Wouldn’t mind something similar for the guitar/bass too, while we’re on the subject, but then I worry we’re veering into “making an unofficial Rock Band game for PC that can play Rock Band tracks”, which is potentially iffy, legally-speaking.

Farrotone is a dummy corporation owned and operated by a shadowy cabal of mug manufacturers.

That usually happens with you’re playing at 1080p. Switch to 1080i instead.

A lot of people have mistaken this thread for “HOW I PLAY OLD SONGZ???” which, y’know, not what I’m asking. Cheers for reading, folks.

The only person who actually answered the question was…

Creating the application is not the hard part. Understanding the cache file in its entirety is. If you can tell me byte by byte how a cache file is made up, I could automate the process. But at the moment we only know maybe 50-60% of what makes up the file – that’s what we use for setlist manager.

Gotcha, all I needed to know. Thanks!

C3 rejuvenated my love for the game, and helped it reassert itself as the primary multiplayer game in my circle of friends. I’ll always be thankful for that.

I had never heard of this band before today’s announcement. So I dutifully went and looked up all the songs on Youtube. Unfortunately, they’re not really my style.

Still, I’m happy for everyone who is excited for this release. It just shows the vast range of music that is out there, and why the diverse library of Rock Band is so special.

See, this is why I love C3, and why I’m going to miss it when it’s gone. Whenever there’s an official DLC drop, all people do is complain – Why these songs? Who cares?! WERES MUSE????

But here, even if people aren’t familiar with a band or a song, they’re still happy for the people who did get something they want. You don’t see people complaining half as much as you do in other places like the old RB Forums or DLCQuickplay. I love it.

in reply to: Key authors around should try working for Harmonix. #440091

You could probably offer to pay Harmonix to let you author keys, but if it’s not in their best interests right now then they’re not going to do it. I like occasionally playing keys, but I honestly can’t blame them for making the decision to drop the instrument (or pro guitar/bass, for that matter). There was never the interest at a mass-market level.

Is anyone else a little disappointed with the instruments they showed? Are these really going to be the exact same drums and guitar models 5 years later? I’m sure they’ll be updated in minor ways (I remember them saying the guitar tilt sensor will be more intuitive [yay i guess?]). But I’m kind of disappointed they didn’t make an effort to do a little bit of redesign while they had the chance.

That’s footage of them replaying RB3 for research purposes. They’re using old instruments because, y’know, they haven’t made the new ones yet.

Edit: Ah, the images on the Mad Catz site. Actually, I like ’em. So long as they’re of a better build quality than the original instruments, I’m in.

Ah, bums. Wish I’d known this panel was happening – I was at MAGFest with the Retroware lot!

May I recommend literally anything from the Hot Fuzz soundtrack?

    Oh, good.

    +1, obviously.

I feel like we’ve discussed this on the forum before, and someone was very vocal about the ooga-chakas in “Hooked on a Feeling”, and how they should be excised. This person, obviously, was wrong, and will stand as a monument to their shame like the Weeping Angels of old.
