Having something in your WIP should indicate you are in progress not just thinking about it.
Yes, that would indicate that it is in progress. That unfortunately isn’t the standard for some to put something on their WIP. Like you, I list something as a WIP if I have at least a tempo map down for it.
March 6, 2018 at 8:23 am #495875I agree, that’s why I have a clear distinction between WIP and plans. I have many plans, but I don’t see those songs as “claimed”. If somebody wants to chart them, they’re more than welcome. Just let me know and I’ll remove it from my list.
I do see value in those long “plans” list though. It helps find people to collaborate with. This way I can tell if someone is interested in an artist/genre and contact him to collaborate.
If there’s anything I think we’re missing, is a good interface to find collaborators. Like a second database, but of WIP songs with their status. So if you want to start a song, you can easily look it to and see what work has been done and by whom. And if you’re looking for collaboration, you can look up similar songs/artists and see who’s been interested in charting them.

Wasn’t aimed at you, my friend. Sorry if that was the implication. I know we’re in your WIP thread ‘n’ all. Sorry!

Abso-god-damn-lutely. A system like that would be fantastic. I’m always sending out feelers to authors for collaborations, usually with success (oh hi, Whizzer and DenVaktare), but sometimes you just don’t know who likes what until well after the fact. For example, I didn’t know DenVaktare was a Fratellis fan until he posted a song by them in the database. Well, shit. Had I known that, I’m sure we’d have been working together long ago!
As another example, I really want to get Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner and Desperadoes Under the Eaves, both by Warren Zevon, made, but I am unsure who to approach about it, so they aren’t in my WIP thread yet. It might end up as another in my countless projects involving “drums by Whizzer” and “guitar by DenVaktare” (fingers crossed, boys!), but I hate having to bother them when there might be others out there who genuinely love those songs as much as me. Plus, the main problem is those pro keys are absolutely required. And I’m not sure who I’d approach about that… but Prez has taught me that YouTube usually has something to steal ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
March 10, 2018 at 3:08 pm #495981I too love the idea of a place to find collaborators. I’ve long been considering giving charting a shot, but it took Yaniv posting his drums-only Sound and Vision custom and saying he was looking for collaborators to turn it into full band to get me to give it a shot.
Yaniv, happy to work on more together, especially if you start charting that Cure stuff. Spent a couple years playing bass in a Cure cover band, so a lot of the older stuff I know pretty well. I’d love to get some more wacky stuff like Object or Plastic Passion out there too…

I’ll PM you ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />
March 25, 2018 at 10:59 pm #496395Whole post updated. Mostly because I learned to work without midis, so I don’t rely on them anymore which changed everything. So know it’s (very roughly) sorted by higher priority and further future songs. I know it’s a lot of songs for the ‘near future’, but honestly I tend to work on just whatever I feel like, so I can’t really predict which one from this pool of songs will be picked earlier.
Also I added some new songs and updated my progress on current ones (spoilers!!).
March 25, 2018 at 11:05 pm #496396Talking Heads – This Must be the Place. Collaboration with Atruejedi, I’m doing drums.
Note that yaniv wants to do the live version from Stop Making Sense, and that’s fine with me. I’m doing vocals (with harmonies, of course) and bass.
Obviously it’ll still need guitar and keys. So who’s volunteering? ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_biggrin.gif” />
yaniv, just send me the files when you’ve got the drums done and I’ll pencil in the vocals and bass between my other projects.
P.S. I left some comments on your customs you might want to check out!

Actually, I’m doing guitar, almost finished already haha.
I might do keys too, I’ll have to see how difficult it is to transcribe. I’ll send it once it’s ready.
And I’ve answered your comments too. The Can’t Hardly Wait one is indeed problematic, I have to see what I’ll do. I’m keeping a list of all the stuff I need to fix, I’ll get around to it. Thanks ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />

June 16, 2018 at 1:31 pm #498755Nice to see somebody making Big Star/Chris Bell customs! Out of curiosity, do you have any plans to chart some songs by The Posies?

Nope, currently no Posies planned (I’m not hugely familiar tbh), but I do plan to do more Big Star and some Teenage Fanclub (my other favorite power pop band) in the future. Although probably not the near future.

Just a FYI, I have Back of a Car and When My Baby’s Beside Me tempo mapped and was planning on finishing those up eventually, but I’ve been sitting on those for a while now, so if those were on your list then I’d be willing to contribute a complete Guitar chart for them and hand them off to you to finish if you are open to that. But I prefer doing complete reductions and see that you don’t usually do those. So if you didn’t want to do full reductions and are open to contributing vocals, X drums, and X Bass, you could do those and pass them back to me to complete them.

Wow, I’m surprised you don’t know much about the Posies. They were greatly influenced by Big Star, and I have a feeling you’d get a kick out of them. ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />

I love this song but so far not planning to do it, I think it’s a bit too repetitive on many instruments. I thought of doing a live version – they rock – but no concrete plans so far.

These aren’t two songs I was planning to do, but if you need help with any charts – guitar, bass, whatever, than sure, I can help. PM me and we’ll progress from there ” src=”/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/default_SA_smile.gif” />Tyler, thanks for the recommendation – I’ll check them out! -
